United States
January 30, 2011 8:59pm CST
I want a really cool, manly man name for a character in my story (but let's not go crazy). I have come up with a few names, I'll list them and you guys can tell me which you like best OR you can give your own name. You'll notice my names are all very similar, I do like all these names, but if someone comes up with one that is totally different that's okay! Dean Cade Miles Cade Michael Cale Miles Cale Thank you for the help!!!!

Wow, I might be bias, but I like Miles Cade and this is because my neighbors oldest daughter's son is named Cade and their oldest son's wife just had a baby and named him Miles..So if you use Miles Cade, please let me know so I can tell my neighbors..:)

Michael Cale sounds kinda strong. What about 'Ken Bone?' Or 'Mick Stone'? What is your story about? Is it like Mills and Boon and Michael/Mick/Dean is the spunky guy who comes and saves the chick from falling off a rope bridge in the middle of the jungle? Making stories and developing characters is fun How many books have you written? Good luck with it

I think if I was writing a story, I would pick a name that would fit the character of the person. What type of person is the character? What is the time period and setting of the story? Is he a tough, take charge, seasoned investigator in a detective novel or is he a staid, straight laced businessman working 9 to 5 everyday in an office? Whenever I hear the name Miles, I think of the character in the TV sitcom Frazier, who was Frazier's younger brother. He was a sort of wimpy, smug, sophisticate who thought he was better than the common man. All the names you have listed are good names though. I guess I would be most partial to Michael.

Oh no!!! You totally ruined the name Miles for me!!! lol. I actually don't want Fraiser, but I got the name Miles from...oh what was it...White Fang? Or some other movie like that. lol I see my guy is being tough when he needs to be, but also really kind when he can be. He's a cop, a good honest cop. It's present day. Thank you! :)

I don't know if physical traits would help with a name but I figured I'd add them. He's going to be about 6 foot. He is not a skinny guy and he is not UBER muscly, but he is very fit. I picture him having brown hair and green eyes. Clean shaven. He is Caucasian. Hmmm...I think that's it! lol

Oops, sorry. I didn't mean to ruin Miles for ya. He's just the guy I think of for that name. Any of the ones you have will work though. It just depends on which one you like. For masculine names, I always think of the old John Wayne movies but those names might not fit in modern day. There are a lot of stereotypical cop names from movies too. I think there have been a lot of movie detectives with the names Jake, Jack, Nick or Lou. If you want to go with something more unusual, I always thought that Norwegian names were very manly, like Magnus or Gunnar but I don't know how those would fit with your character. I always thought that Hunter was a cool first name also. Now I got ya thinkin' don't I?

All your names listed sounds good but you know I have a name prepared for my unborn baby its Zander Vonmac. Actually those are just for his first name. If you are familiar with the name vonmac here in Mylot yes you are right I got it from one of the Mylot's username . I just like the combination. it sounds like of a strong willed man.

I'm not sure I know the name Vonmac from here, but...I might! For some reason in the back of my head it sounds familiar. I do like the name Zander, but I just don't see 'my guy' fitting the name Zander. Thank you!

Naming a character in the story conforms with the genre you are working with. since you're posting here, I'll give you some based on your preference. Kent Michael, Mark Dale, Jack Miles, Mark Vincent, Fernando Ryan, Bob Wayne, Kent Bradford and Don Cale. Hope you like it.

How about as a first name, the name Jonathan...I've always loved that name for some reason. A bit old-fashioned, and much stronger though than say "John"

You seem to like Cade and Cale for last names. Dean seems like a winner in the manly man. People think of James Dean as a tough kind of manly man. My mind isn't coming up with any great names right now.

Out of the ones you listed I like Dean Cade the best. The name Miles sounds weak to me for some reason. I also like Max Cade, Zack Cade and Ty Cade. Good luck with your pick.

Thank you. I agree that Miles sounds like a more...gentle name lol. But I thought B.A. last name Cade would make up for that lol I do like Max Cade, I'll have to throw that one into the mix. Thank you!

I don't want a name as long as Benjamin. I don't want that many syllables lol. I want a short, sharp name. I do have Michael already as one of the options on my discussion...Michael Cale... Thanks!

I think Michael is such a boring common name I wouldnt go with that. I think its cool when characters in storys have unique names. I like all the rest of the names you picked out though. My friend just had a baby boy and named him Bronson. I think that would be a good name for a manly man name for the character in your story. My teacher in high school had that as the first name. He is now the super intendant of the school.

Bronson doesn't sound quite right for my character, but I agree that it is a strong, cool name. Right now I've decided on the name 'Victor Cale' for my character. Of course it can always be changed if a better name comes along. But I don't think it's too boring and common is it? Thanks!
