Why doesn't she use her cell phone?

I was watching an old episode of the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" tv show that involved the family getting miniaturized and lost inside of their grandfather - and I found myself wondering why one of them didn't try a cell phone.
My question was answered less than 5 minutes later when another character made reference to using a pay phone to call someone - the show was pre-ubiquitous cell phones. Pay phones? I remember those.
Does anyone else find themselves watching old (but still recognizably recent) shows and wondering why someone doesn't pull out their cell?

Too funny and yes I have wondered at times then revert to remember..ugh they did not exist and or not really popular back then.
So easy now right, where as even children own them.

Some shows I associate with the time strongly enough that it doesn't bother me, but some shows I'll suddenly go "Oh right... no cell phones." They were too expensive and you had to watch your minutes or risk a huge bill.

I do watch old movies, and when I do, I don't forget that it is an old movie. Sort of like, I get zapped into the past, thus I forget the conveniences of today. But, yah, I wonder how they ever got by without cellphones.

Most of the time I don't think about it - but keep in mind this is a show about shrinking people and fantastic inventions. Cell phones existed at the time of this show, but they were still using pay phones. It just amused me.
