I have never done parallel parking since I have got my driving license...
Parallel parking is one of the requirement in the driving test. That was easy because it gives you plenty of space to park in the test.
We don't need to do it very much here unless we go to the city like Boston, then it will be necessary... I remember the last time I went to Quincy(close to Boston), I was looking for a parking spot on the street so my sister and I could stop and eat something... eveyrtime I foudn a spot, I wanted to try but car was coming behind, then I got nervous... because city people has no patience for you to do that... so I did that for about 20 minutes, I was like fine.. let's just park on the end of the street and walk over here...
Can you do parallel parking?
Do you think it is difficult?
Besides, I don't like to sneak in in between two cars very much at the parking lot as well, I could but I prefer to park in a bigger spot. So, I usually park quite far away from the store...

Well I can not parallell park for the life of me!! L.O.L. I remember when I was young and took the driver's test I failed the parallel parking 3 times and I think the teacher felt sorry for me and passed me anyway. I have not been anywhere in a long time where I had to parallel park and I try to avoid places that make you parallel park because I would not be able to do it for sure!! L.O.L.

haha!
The driving school that I atended taught me an easy way to do it plus space was big enough for my car so I passed easily.
I don't know about just parallel parking on the street though...

I have never done parallel parking. It was not necessary in the driving test either. Well, Indian driving test is a joke. They are making it harder, but still a joke. When I first took a test in Bangalore (South India), the test was practically 1 minute going forward and reversing for 2 seconds. Needless to say, I passed.
I lost that license when I lost my wallet. Eventhough I could easily get a replacement license had I still been living in the same city, it became complicated as I am now in North India. So I applied for a new one in Rajasthan. The driving test was a 5 minutes job, drive forward, make an 'S', then reverse back.
I still haven't got the courage to do the driving test in England, which is supposedly the worst driving test in the world. I have passed my theory and let it expired. I guess I will have to face that soon.

I don't know about the test in England, but I have heard it is not easy in my home country which is used to be British. It is relatively easy here in this state.
I think I would only try if the spot is large enough and no car is coming behind me...

I know, that's why I said it's a joke.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the English Test. I have put it off so many times. The theory pass certificate was valid for 2 years and I still managed to put it off (not a big mystery as I I only go there like twice a year). I am really scared of taking the English test.
As for parallel parking, I know I will not be able to do it unless I practice real hard and do it regularly. I can do it if there is enough space, at least two cars length empty. If I have to parallel park in between two cars, I'd rather find another space.

Well, most of our car parks here a re parallel parkingBut I must admit I'm not really a pro when it comes to any parking as I use my motorbike most of the time!~ Hahaha~!But I must say though it's just a matter of practice!~

I guess must be those inconsiderate motorcyclists that park right in the middle of a carpark lot? Hahaha!~As for us here, the state where I come from has got so many motorcyclists that the bike parks are just for bikes. In fact it's the other way round - the cars always park at the bike park & there goes at least 5 to 8 spaces for other bikes

it must be easy to park with motorbike. Somes times when I look for parking spot, I think motorbike wastes a whole parking spot...

Ive been driving since i was 18 and im 55 now. I still avoid parallel parking when if at all possible. So dont feel bad. I would rather find a parking lot somewhere. Drivers coming from behind still bother me too but oh well what can they do. They have to wait and thats all there is to it. If they dont like it they can change lanes and go around.

Yup, I hate parallel parking too; reverse parking is not so bad! However when I drive to the city, where parking space is scarce, it's either do or die! So I'd cross my fingers and try to get the car in. It's not so bad if there is no 'audience' (people around, watching how you park!!!). Else I would just give up and drive to a private carpark (more parking bays, but also more expensive)!

Yea... I would feel like an idiot when I have audiences and makes me more panic...

i suggest that you practice parking in reverse if you will do the parallel parking. you can actually see the corner ends of your vehicle using the side mirrors and pointing it to the right direction and will be easily done by you. Everything pay in practices. Practice makes perfect keep in practicing.

Frankly, I haven't parallel parked since I got my license. I too will park at the end and just walk the extra.
For me at least, whenever there is more space, all the better. If given the option between a tight-fit close-up or a wider spot far away, our family ends up walking quite a bit.
The good news is, I have never been at fault in an accident, so maybe being a bit conservative about it and enjoying the extra space is paying off?

Welcome to the club!!!! I don't like parallel parking either. I know a few women that have their driver's license that can't remember how to parallel park!! Many say they master it for their road test, but once they get their driver's license, they don't bother with this driving technique anymore. They park in another parking lot and they walk to the store or building that they have to. We live in a regular city, not a large one. I will be doing the same thing after a while myself. You are not the only one that really does not know how to parallel park. It took me a long time to learn this driving skill. It was so difficult for me to understand it. Sometimes, I wished that the driver instructor would just omit this driving technique on the road test. I know that they won't do this. Backing up straight and parallel parking is the most difficulty skill to learn when you are driving.

I thought back up parking and parallel parking were very difficult for me, not so much backing up straight for 50 feet.
Yeah, I wuold rather just park far and walk over to the store...

Well i live in Florida kind of close to Disney and Miami. If you go to a pick city there is alto of parallel parking spots every where as that is whay they offer for you unless you want to go find a parking lot at one of the ends somewhere and that is usually where i am as parallel parking is just not for me and i dont even want to try and then have to pay the meter. I would rather find a parking garage and pay for parking.
If there is a parking lot i would rather be parking there instead of parallel parking as i dont feel comfortable doing that or even parking is difficult.

Many years ago when I learned to drive parallel parking was my greatest fear. it was the one driving skill i just couldn't seem to master. i failed my driving test the first time because of parallel parking woes. Parallel parking is just not as easy as it looks, but practice does make perfect.

i think i have done parallel parking since passing my test but that was years ago. i hate it so i try to avoid it. i would rather drive forward into a space than try to reverse in.

At first yeah i thought it was one of the most dificult things to do driving a car, but now i'm perfectly confortable with it, regardless of the size of the car, if there's enough room for it i'll park it.
If its a smal car the easyer way is looking through the back window after aligning the car with the one in front, start turning in when half car is past the one in the front, then start turning the other side as soon as you see the right light of the back car in the middle of your back window, and it's done.
With larger cars you definetly can only use the rear view and the side mirrors (sometimes only the side mirrors).
Practice makes it perfect.

Well, I had to learn it when I got my driver's license, but never since have I ever parallel parked. I refuse! Sure I've tried it but it never works out for me because I end up 3 miles from the curb and so I figure what's the use. I would rather park in a parking lot 3 blocks away from where I need to be than to try to parallel part right in front of where I need to be.

Fortunately for me I didn't have to parallel park for my drivers' test. I've tried and tried and I just can't do it. After going forward and backward 12 times I'm still a mile from the curb and have an audience. If there isn't a spot I can slide right into I'll just come back another day.

You can get as close to the curb as a mile? NOT FAIR!!! lol. I said earlier I can't get any closer than 3 miles...lol. Yep and that audience is embarrasing!

Heck no, I can't parallel park at all! LOL I did it once, years ago, but not for my test. I had taken a friend of mine downtown. There's a lot of parallel parking down there, especially where she had to go. And as we didn't want to walk it I gave parallel parking a shot. I was doing it too, although I was terribly nervous the entire time with the parked cars being close together and all. Just as I was starting to gain a little confidence a motorcyclist parked in front of me which gave me even less room to park, and I completely lost it. LOL Fortunately for me, the guy on the bike saw my dilemma (or maybe he heard it LOL) and came to the rescue. With his help I was able to finish parallel parking (and without hitting his bike too). Needless to say I haven't tried to park that way since.
If it came down to it and I really had to, I could probably do it again, although I wouldn't want to and certainly not with the SUV that I have. I know for a fact that I'd never be able to parallel park with something as big as that! LOL
Happy mylotting!

There were a couple of things that don't make sense with how my brain works with driving. Its not because I don't agree with them, but its just because my brain is wired a certain way. Therefore, it is going to work a certain way, regardless of anything that happens. One of those things are parallel parking. Now don't get me wrong, I can do it but I tend to avoid it whenever possible.
It does leave little room for mistakes and not to mention if you go wrong, you can smash up against the curb or against another car. So not good times indeed. There are a lot of times where I think I would be a far better driver is everyone and everything was banished from the road. Granted, thats impossible for obvious reasons but its still a nice thought.
