i actually transferred to a new apartment, and i always choose second floor,
when i looking for a new apartment i always to prefer at second floor,
but my mother always told me to choose the first floor or the ground floor,
because no need to use upstairs and its safe when tragedy will come such as earthquake and fire.
if you transfer to a new house/ room / apartment, what will you prefer to choose?and why?

If renting an apartment I feel safer being upstairs. It is more difficult for someone to crawl through the windows! And I can leave my windows open in nice weather and not worry if I closed them or not.

I never lived in a place with a fire escape. Ah, but wait..........there is one place that had an exit in the back, but it was difficult to get up the ladder from the ground. Didn't have to worry about it.

Hi. asliah. I prefer to stay on the ground floor. I lived upstairs, on the second floor last year, and my family and I lived a nightmare that we will never forget, at least not me though! From this terrible situation, I prefer to live on the ground floor. It is more better for us. My kids can make some noise and I don't have to worry about walking on egg shells just to please my neighbor upstairs. Anywhere that my family and I stay to from now on, will always be the ground floor or downstairs.

I would prefer the fist or ground floor. It's much easier when you don't need to go up and down the stairs especially when you are in a hurry. It's much safer and your mom has a point, you can easily go out of the building when there is fire and if ever earthquake happens, you will be more safe.

I would go where there are a lot of pretty sexy neighbors. LOL...seriously, i would go along with your choice, the 2nd floor.

Hi Asliah,
I tend to agree with your mom. I see some benefits to 2nd floor like possibly the view and no one above so less noise. But I would prefer 1st floor in the event of a fire or any other disaster. Also, less climbing and lugging of the groceries and things. In the summertime, it is much cooler. I really can't see why you would prefer a 2nd floor apt over a first if given the choice.

I always prefer 2nd floor. I think i should not mention you the reason as my reason same like you. And there is some other reason i want to say that 2nd floor is batter then 1st floor as it's don't become dirty soon like 1st floor. And i believe 2nd floor is more safety.

I am one to side with 2nd floor, but not any higher than that due to the safety concerns. I see the first floor being a liability for easy target no matter how safe an area is. It is easier to be sneaked up on and watched if your access is easy (1st floor). Also, easier to get in and out when trying to break into your apt, no matter what you do and don't have.
I hope this insight helped, but not scared you to the point to reconsider...just through the information out there so you're away of risks that may take place.

In my past experience when I were at my condominium, I highlight the following for your consideration:
1. The Highest Floor:
- Roof leakage.
- Power failure and no standby power supply (Generator set),
you have to walk all the way up through the staircase.
- No leakage of waste water pipe from upper floor.
2. The Ground Floor:
- Rubbish or waste materials drop from the upper floors
and scatter in the front of your balcony or windows.
- The clogging of main waste water pipe will start from the ground floor
and cause flood in your unit.
3. The First Floor:
- Clogging of main waster water pipe can be happened at this floor too.
The waste water from the upper floor will flow into this floor once there is any clogging at the main pipe.
My unit was at the Second Floor.
For me , it is perfect because I can easily walk through the staircase to my unit if I do not want to go by the lift.

If I happen to change my apartment and if my mother lives with me i would prefer the first floor because it would be easier for my mother as she will not have to climb any stairs but i prefer second floor. And if someone living on the second floor makes noises by jumping then they would complain if I live on the first floor. So, its better to live on the second floor.

I always though tthat being somewhere in the middle of the apartments would be good. That way you would get the heat from below you in the winter and the a.c from above you in the summer. In other words it would help save on your bills. Plus most of the time moddle levels have pretty decent veiws if you live somewhere that has a veiw.

If there is no lift, then I prefer the lower stairs because it is quite tiring to walk upstairs everyday. Second floor and first floor are also fine. If it is very moist in your area, then probably second floor is a better choice. The first floor is also usually noisy.

Your mother is right. She is saying that through experience. I prefer the first floor too. Not too high to climb, less noisy than the ground floor, and has a better view than the ground floor too.

I have lived in many different apartments and I have lived on the ground floor, the first floor and second floor and the third floor. I prefer the second floor or the third floor.
The view is better from the second floor or the third floor, but that isn't the main reason why I prefer to live there. Most of all I like it because I am less likely to get burgled. I remember one apartment on the ground floor. There was a balcony, but it was very close to the ground and it would have been so easy climb over the balcony, break the window in the door and get into the apartment that way. It happened to some of my neighbours and I was always nervous that the same thing would happen to me.
Of course there are also some advantages about the ground floor. It is easier to get out in case of a fire and I don't have to carry things all the way from the top of the building to the ground floor.

If I am to choose what floor, I would pick the 4th floor or up. First of all, I want a view. Being on the upper floors brings you this chance. May it be a city view, mountain view or ocean view, as long as there is a view I would take it. Next, if there are no lifts this is a good chance for me to have a little form of exercise. Going up and down the stairs would do some help. hehehe... Third is security. It would be harder for those looters to bring down my stuff from the upper floors. As for tragedies, I can't do anything about it. Even if you are at the ground floor there is a chance that you might be caved in. As for the fire, I want my room to be near the fire exit. hehehe...
