Lately the nuclear power plant problem in Japan makes everybody worried about the safety. Do you have a nuclear power plant in your area? I just learn that there is a nuclear power plant in Shenzhen which is a city close by my city. But yesterday I checked via the net and I learned that there are at least four more nuclear power plants in my province. Hard to believe...

There is one close. About 35 miles i am thinking. It is scary. Don't know if it would come as far as I am or not. Take care.

I don't know the facts but I have always been against nuclear power plants.
I don't think there is one here in the Philippines. I may be wrong though. There was a proposal before but Filipinos strongly opposed to it. Good for those people who really tried to hinder it.
If the power plants in Japan, which is known for being technologically advanced, succumbed to the force of nature that hit the country, I can't imagine what will happen to our poor little country.

Solar energy is worth the investment considering that the risks are fewer than nuclear.
Even with improved safety measures, nothing is indestructible. Against the wrath of nature, all our efforts are for nothing.

Hello friends I agree with that nuclear power plants are riski as it can affect human lives as well as nature for long term but solar energy is very costly to utilise.Today nuclear power is the most efficient source of energy.Japan get 80% energy from nuclear power plants. We need to improve safety of nuclear plants to avoid accidents.

We have two near us. In fact, my 9th grade class went there for a class trip in 1969 for the very first Earth Day (it was considered the energy of the future - I'm not sure about that). I feel terrible about what happened in Japan, but I don't understand why anyone would build a nuclear plant in the worst earthquake zone in the world. Even if their building codes are better than anywhere else on Earth, no one's ever seen what would happen with the worse case scenario like this has been. It was a chance that probably shouldn't have been taken.

At response box 4 I said I thought we had one, and I said how far it was away. I was wrong. We do have one, it has been operating for twenty years, and it is more like one hundred miles from me. I went and did a search about it and the plant manager talked about all the safety features built in to the plant. He also talked about many different scenarios, and it made me feel more reassured about the integrity of that plant.

i perfectly sure there is a nuclear power plant in the philippines. and sometime in the early 90's, i personally saw the plant, been there and worked with the engineers. but don't ask me technical things about the plant as i am not an engineer nor a technical person dealing with the plant. i just worked with the designs, with the papers i don't know how to read them.
but anyway, the bataan nuclear power plant has been mothballed for years. if i remember correctly, about 26 years ago, after it's full construction, it has never been used. though the law-makers had initiated moves to re-open (re-open when it has never been opened to produce electricity?) many times, they always failed after more group of people are against it. some said, they should have give heavier weight to the safety of the people over the money they can get.

Here in Texas in the USA we have a few but our main source for energy is wind energy and coal powered energy. We do have one that is a couple hours away that is south of Dallas/Fortworth area and it is somewhat scary but with it being fairly far away from me it is not that big of a deal in my opinion. Those nuclear power plants have been there for over 20 years and have never had a problem...

there will probably be more around the Guangdong province and some specialist have already warned us that there might be a possiblilty of having an earthquake of level 6 in Guangdong. Therefore, it might be quite scary for people living around there as they might experience things happened in Japan recently. However, we have to mention something seriously here. There has been a small gap/leakage in the nuclear plant in Japan before it exploded and the gap/leakage was not reported immediately and therefore people think that this might be the main fact causing the explsion of the power plant a few days ago. When we have a brief analysis in the accidents happened in a few nuclear plants before, they were all triggered by human mistakes. Therefore, if we do every thing correctly, there will usually not a problem and actually nuclear power does help us to have a better quality of life in certain ways as they can provide alternative energy resources to us which are sustainable.

I have seen this news as well. I also think that they do not have to get salt altogether because the situation is actually not that worse in China when compared with that in Japan and as long as we keep monitoring the nuclear plants and the level of radiation well, we will not have any problem. Also, I think people should spend their time and money to help those people who have experienced an earthquake in China recently rather than using their money and time to buy the salt which is unneccessary.

It is new to me about this kind of plant because I never heard about it before. It is interesting to know about it. I am sure that it is a good plant that helps prevent the spread of nuclear power. I am not so sure about this plant, but wish to find some. In our town, it is mainly bamboo because it is called a bamboo town though it also has some other plants. Take care, youless.

youless,
I think this is really not surprising news considering the fact that China is one of the largest energy consumption countries. Conventionally produced energy has been producing many concerns which includes costs and environmental issues.
I am sure like all nuclear power facilities around the world such installations will have to conform and adhere to strict regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) where I think you can feel assured that China has been a member since 1984.
So, I do not think we should need to worry as long as these plants are being built with every safety precaution which includes safe distancing from mass populated areas.

youless,
Frankly, I have to agree with your country's experts. Chernobyl is an unfortunate accident which did not allow experts from shutting down the reactors to avoid a catastrophe and most of all, is already history.
Unlike Chernobyl, Japan was able to shut down the reactors before the earthquake which is why we do not really see a repeat of Chernobyl. I believe the authorities in Japan are working around the clock trying to contain the fires around these reactors where I hope have been well built to withstand for a longer period against the fire.
I hope you will not worry unnecessarily but gather knowledge about nuclear energy and necessary precautions like the attached video feed.
Video feed about radiation and precaution(Chinese):

hi youless yes there is one San ONofre about 100 miles away a nd so what its modern and well cared for so there have never been any problems with it at all. a lot of people are scaring themselves needlessly. just being a nuclear power plant does not mean it is going to blow up if its maintained and kept modernized and all safety factors are working at all times. People should try to rein in their imaginationss now and not run
off scared without knowing the real facts about nuclear plants first. For
one thing people who built nuclear plants on top of earthquakes faults ought to have had their brains checked as this was one stupid thing to do. nothing is safe in a bad earthquake at all. I am here in California in the uSA

I think there are some within a hundreds miles. I'm not too worried about them, I think the media attention does tend to exaggerate the risks, but I don't necessarily want to live too close to one, either. I need to do more research on them sometime.

We don't have the one who used for electricity but they plant to used it in future. We had nuclear reactor multi purpose Swabesi its used for agricultural purpose and medicine.
The uranium its not enough to build nuclear power plant so they made approach to Iran to share the Uranium they had. I think they already made agreement.
I personally not agree to used it just for electricity just don't have faith it and there is a lot another source like solar cell because we live in tropic. People want to go something easy but risky.

Yeah its will be cheaper in long term and you don't have to fear about the nuclear radiation.
I think our government need to realize how our nation if prone to earth quake either even I have not face it in my area. But who can predict the future and maybe we are not as aware as japan.

No i don't have a nuclear plant in my area. Actually as much as i know there is no nuclear power point. I think it's really dangerous.I think all should stop nuclear plant for human being safety. Not only china all over the country in this world should stop all plant nuclear.
Good luck!

We have one nuclear plant in my country built during the martial law. It is not that near my area. However, this nuclear plant was never used since it was built that's why people in my country is suffering from high electricity cost over the past decades. Our country spend billions to built it but until now it is just standing there. It was actually shown on a documentary this week that the nuclear plant was well built. However, there is still an unending dispute if we are going to use it or not. The dispute became more intense because of what happened in Japan.

I live in the city of Mumbai in India and off the coat there is an island called Elephanta. On that island there is a nuclear Reactor called the Canada India reactor and it is the first and the oldest nuclear reactor in India.I have seen this nuclear facility when i visited this island for a picnic way back in 1964. According to what i remember i believe this reactor has been closed down some years back and is now totally defunct and therefore not dangerous.there are about 20 nuclear plants in my country and there are plans afoot to have another one in the state where i live but there is a lot of opposition to it and agitations to prevent its construction are going on.

The US has some but I forgot how many we have. I live with near two. Not real close but with in a half an hour drive from were I live. I live in Wisconsin. I think Wisconsin has only two. It doesn't worry to much! I do hate knowing these plants produce nuclear waste and when it needs to be disposed of it has to be shipped a cross the country and stored under ground somewhere were places are set up for it! That I don't like! For safety I am not worried. As long as people don't screw up,there will be no problems!

Unfortunately, a new nuclear plant is building near my hometown. My hometown is a small city in the HuBei province of china. I don't think the nuclear plant is 100% safe. Maybe it's safe in most case. But when there is a disaster just like earthquake and tsunami, how can i assure nuclear plant's saftey?

The Philippines has a nuclear power plant in Bataan. It has been stagnant for 20 years. It hasn't been used then. In the philippines, they don't use nuclear power. They are more into geothermal energy because there are several volcanoes there.
