So sorry that to say that i hate foreigners(not mylotters from abroad)... why? reasons are here.
Today evening, i was sitting on a beer bar and there were five foreigners from three countries... three from england, one from scotland and one from Australia.
You know, we indians are so polite and humble and we know the hospitalities. we respect all of them from abroad who come to visit India. We are ready to help them at any cost because we are learnt from childhood that " Atithi debo bhava" ( guests are god). Please dont mistreat our politeness you foreigners.
So what happened today evening, one person from my nearest table was curious to know their address and as he was not able to speak with them ... he just wrote on a paper... your name? your country? and handed over to one of them ... They began to laugh and uttered "stupid indians... dont know how to behave and address?" Almost whispering.. but i listened.
I stood, yes we are stupid indians but be sure that you are here alive because we are indians. If you would utter the same any where.. i dont know what u would have to suffer? We are polite and please dont try to evaluate our patience... according to our parents guests are god... please dont say us stupid.
So, why you foreigners hate us and neglect us? We have also talents but you may not face it in proper time... We are too humble and honest... just think.
( i still remember a philippino mylotters wrote here being sad that a foreigners addressed her as " all philippinoes are monkeys".. i cant forget how much sad she was at that time)..
Why you? Have an answer?

I think that when you come acroos this type of people, it has nothing to do with lack of politeness to tell them politelly that they are not in their country, that they are ambassadors of their countries abroad and that their behaviour makes anyone think very badly of the country they belong to.
I also remember the post about the filipinos. It is a pity that there are so many ignorant and rude people who are so agresive to a culture they know nothing about. By the way, you could mention to them too that when indians had a great culture, they were probably living in caves. I have nothing against those three countries but I´wuld not let anyone insult me or mine in my own land. And it doesn´t need to be agresive. Just assertive.

The phillipino member should have stayed and the rude person get thrown away from this site. We have to stand for our rights if we don´t want to be trampled. It has nothing to do with being polite.

Hi marguicha..
I have told the same as you have said. I told them that they are not in their country where they can treat other as same but here they are in a country where everyone are humble and polite, hence they are obliged to be the same. If they cant then better to shut their mouth. There may be dangerous situation happened.
That phillipino member is no longer here in mylot from that case.
have a nice day.

It's called racism.Open, or hidden, it does exist.A tourist can be a curious racist. He comes to your land to enjoy your meal, your hospitality, and at the same time he hates you for what you are or what you have. Some people, even nations feel superior for no reason. You see,India has never invaded other continents, or countries, you don't have the character of aggressor. But one day things might change.Hate is a good feeling,it's the first sign of resistance.Don't be humble.Learn from foreigners.

Yes, its racism. They feel superior and its there great illusion. A person cant be superior by skin color, money ,family background or education. a person can be same by his behavior and manner. They should better understood. When they wish to traet someone as savage.. here they have proved that they are the savages not those whom they considered. shameless.
Have a nice day.

Hi guys,
Actually it is everywhere. I am an American and we get treated much like you describe from foriegners here too. I couldn't possibly pinpoint it to a certain race so I guess it is just that certain people are just plain rude regardless of nationality. I, personally, deal mainly with the Chinese people because they have a business right next door to where I work. There are some that are so so rude and it is very irritating. Yet others are so sweet and kind. You really just can't blame an entire country on the few you meet. I know for a fact that we have Americans that have angered people in almost every country. We aren't all like that. Most of us aren't.

I understand. But it’s a rare case for Caucasian, most Mongolian and Negroes have to suffer more than Arian and Caucasian.... I am an Arian but they pointed to a Mongolian... Really it’s an issue of races. Yes, it’s true that due to inferior complexity, most persons show disrespect to others... its there fault not others whom they treat the same. Have a nice day.

You are very right, friend. There people who does not know how to respect others. But one thing I observed from those foreign people.
Those who does not know how to respect others are uneducated. Because most of educated foreigner are very respect and very considerate

Shiby..I dont know why your friend wanted to accost them. I find that odd in the first place. After all, from the very childhood, we are told not to talk to strangers, isn't it? Secondly, why should the foreigners tell him their name and address? Would you do that once you go out of this country? Is it obligatory? Atithi devo bhava is fine if you are incurring their expenses. Here, they are paying their fare, so they cant be obliged to behave the way you want them to. ok?
Bad mouthing is wrong, undoubtedly wrong. But understand their predicament. They dont want to talk to that man. They cant communicate with the person because the person doesn't understand English. It was simply silly on the part of that person to try to talk to them - unnecessarily. Something of a subservience, lack of self-esteem.

Sweetie, while it is undoubtedly rude on their part, the fact remains that the person who approached them with the request for personal information does seem odd. It would be difficult for them to communicate with the person that they are not interested in furnishing it. In any event, we all would feel odd if we went to a foreign country, and people tried to speak to us unnecessarily. I'd say Shibby's friend asked for it.

Hello shibham, don't get upset with just one bad experience that you had. They were in the bar , so it is obvious that they were not very decent people. They don't know that from public behavior of a person one can get the idea of the full family background of the person.Such people bring disgrace not only to themselves, but to their full family as well as to there motherland.
As far as I know.......Indian are loved all over the world. Today world is so curious to know about respectful culture of India which is so graceful as well as colorful with deep meanings. The preachings in BHAGWAT GEETA are so pure and give so much peace and help people to choose right path and that is why we are so humble yet strong and glowing. Instead of getting angry on such foreigners, you should feel pity on them as they don't know what they are missing in this life.
I am Indian and I am proud to be born Indian. I love Hindi language and thank god I know Hindi and can enjoy bollywood. To read our literature and history in Hindi has special taste which the whole world is missing. So lets be happy for being lucky indian.

Hi apsara..
I am not upset rather i am happy that i was able to change their thoughts towards Indians. hahaha... a bar does no verify decency or indecency. i was also in that bar so do you think that i am also indecent?
I have said that they have blamed their own countries by their indecency.
And Bhagwat Gita is translated to more foreign languages than indian. There are some great scholars from foreign who has brought the indian mythological thoughts to their countries and made their countries rich. we are glad that we have a great culture and thats why i am proud to be an Indian.
Hope they will learn later about manner.
have a nice day.

May be you feel rude but my suggestion is that don't think all guest as God. Because I know many country God ( guest) immigration creates identity if the indigenous people. So behave politely with all guest but don't bring them on head otherwise there is a chance of being headache.

Hello
I remember about the discussion you have stated here..
See some people are rude and uncivilized, they always think others to be mean and uncivilized, it is kind of 'inferiority complex', if i were there i would have kicked his butt, he has no right to behave like that..
Thanks for sharing
Best of luck to you

WOW!! shibham, I am shocked that some foreigners deign to speak down to us!!!!
Yes, we may be stupid, and yes, there are lots of bad people, but so are every where else. Tell me a country where every one is wise and there are only good people. I don't think any one can name even one country.
If I heard anyone speak like that, I would have spoken up to them. That was a very rude thing to do and racist. I would definitely let them know how I feel. Didn't they realise that they are the one stupid by making a racist remark?

This is the first time that i have faced. I became speechless then and stared at them for moments thinking how dared they?

or the existence of true is here because there is a lie. same to here.
I think you would react same as me. Your speech is enough to make me understood.

Hi shibham, you are probably right. I probably would be too shocked to speak up. Now that you mention it, let me correct my previous response - should be read as "they are the stupid ones"
It is sad, though, that a few bad apples can spoil the reputation of a country or a particular culture. I know lots of foreigners living in India, they are all very respectful of our wonderful country. I know and understand we have our faults, but we should not be looked down just because our country is not yet as developed as other countries.
Any kind of racism just make my blood boils. Same with people who are trying to create trouble by trying to portray something as racist.
When I first read your discussion (just the topic), I thought it is going to be something else. When I read the full discussion, I just cannot keep quiet.

hello shiby,
No offense meant you know what Indians here in our country are snobbish i can say only few are nice, it is sad that you can find a racist everywhere but for me being in the other land they should watch their mouth and be friendly as much as possible.
If you are just staying at home you will not hear it and you were on a bar with whom? HAHAHA!

From what you have described it looks to me to be case of communication gap. Curiosity gets the better of Indians and they cannot help staring or start asking personal questions. A wave, a smile or a nod would have helped to break the ice and after sometime he could have started talking without asking too many questions. But Indians tend to get familiar too quickly and this can upset people.
We are neither superior or inferior to any one. We have plenty of achievements and quite a few sore points. In the last two decades we have moved out of India and now we see a lot of foreigners coming to India. So friction and cultural issues are bound to crop up. So instead of taking a moral high ground let us all be realistic and smoothen out the rough edges.
Be prepared to be a global citizen and that means to broaden the horizon and that should take some effort.

Hi moksha..
Not exactly communication gap... when i was talking with them two of them seemed ignoring my voice. I was better to communicate with them but its their manner. Sure, curiosity is the prime point which forces indians to be familiar to them and a handshake makes them proud in some cases. when they find a people who are curious to know about them... they try to avoid them.
Well, once i met a lady from Holland in Mathura. She was aged one and was not able to come out for sunshine, hence she was sitting inside the bus and me too as i have no interest. So, we communicate a lot and the lady started first asking my place and name. So, here the decency exists. Curiosity may raise to any one. One from abroad or native. Curiosity means to earn knowledge.
I am agree with your last para.
have a nice day

Shiby ... smile and wave as moksha mentioned, even before that - eye contact gives ample indication whether the person is interested in communicating further or not. The way your friend did was certainly not the right way. And there is no point in feeling indignation for something that was odd. It actually gave them a scope to say that.

I hear that some Australians are very racist, they have gangs where they beat up or even kill Asians for no reason. In the U.S. it is usually much less severe, and Indians are not really discriminated against because they have so much pride, it would take some serious stupid balls to be rude to an Indian. Still, relative to other cultures, the Indian culture is fairly new to the U.S. so there might be some prejudice still. My coworker even said at a meeting that "Indians are always on their cell phones." There are stereotypes to all cultures and we can laugh that off, but if someone is deliberately rude and calls you stupid for being a different color, then don't accept what they say. Just know that it will pass in time. I mean, some people are still racist against blacks and chinese people here, who have been here for a long time now. It just takes a lot of time for people to learn to coexist. As a Japanese person I get discriminated against as well, and it makes me really angry. Just stay proud and no one can hurt you. Just know that you are the better person.

Exactly right you have heard. Many Indian students are killed by Australian racist. It is still continuing. Who says that indians are blake. There are many indians statues on Madam Tassue's Museum. We have all everything that they have. Color cant make a country rich, a country become rich by brains. They should better understand. What we have not? Oscar winner, nobel winner.... all everything.

Dear friend,
As an Indian this is bit harsh, but at times I feel those laws and rules here India is still from age old colonial waste. When Indian have a bunch of cultures and traditions that is most valued all over the world. Why can’t India show that it can make its own law that suits its culture. Now I hardly see any culture of India written in its own language. India actually known was Bharath has everything to be the world greatest power if it had not adopted those left over of colonial rulers. We have great rulers, great pundits, great scholars still at times we lack to adopt their contributions in practical. Those basics of most inventions came from India. India had Mantras that communicated with the nature and control the nature and those missiles would be nothing if we have adopted and upheld our own culture. We could have attained the power to even read the minds of those foreigners before they could say it out this was once the power of India that was left gone. At times I feel myself pity and ashamed.

Hi Shibham,
I don't understand it either. I just wrote a discussion about this same sort of thing and noticed your discussion under "similar discussions". I live in the States and we deal with this sort of disrespect also. I would NEVER treat them poorly just because they are being rude and disrespectful. In fact, I am very very patient and understanding to the language barrier we have. I don't understand the anger and rudeness at all. There is never a good excuse for disrespect and anyone that would call an entire nationality monkeys is just an idiot. Anyone that would say "stupid indian" is an idiot. Not all people are like that.

People who misbehaved do not call them "foreigners". They are just people. Every nation got few people like this. When our Indian brothers say something like that to other people from other nation they will also bring this up to this page. It will only spread hatred. India is a great nation and out culture teachs us to forgive not to complain for little things.
