I already have this on mind. Since some online earners are having an issue on getting their money transfered to their bank with the interference of their government just like in India. What if the next thing the government would do is to ask online earners to declare their income and pay taxes. What do you think about this and will it be possible in the future? Please share your thoughts.

I write all my online income down and keep track of it so I can pay taxes on it. I put it all in my yearly statements and claim it as self-employment for the year. If someone ever gets audited and the money went through their bank accounts the government will find it and hopefully it is already shown as reported. Besides, it's the honest thing to do!

You mean your government asks already for this? or you just decided to voluntary pay for the earnings you made online?

It depends on how you look at it. Technically we are supposed to report any kind of income on our taxes. However, a lot of people work for cash and never report it. I know that if the government choses to audit someone and there is a lot more cash flow in their accounts than what they reported then they can be penalized and even go to jail for fraud. I am careful to report everything since I run a small business and don't want anything to come back on me. I am just also honest by nature!

It would be a sad day.But this is only for earning above a certain amount. If one earns below the taxable limit the one can't be taxed. If one earns a very good income like all other sources of income they can be taxed but for small amounts i feel its unfair if they attract tax.

Indeed, only those who earns $200+ will be accountable to pay. Thanks for your response picjim!

The government does require and expect you to declare all of your earnings no matter what source it is from of course not everyone follows the rules including myself. People cheat on their taxes all the time. But you are supposed to report your earnings a lot of people don't do this anyway. I will only include anything I get a 1099 for. Call me a rebel .

Here in the US we can make $200 free and clear from any one business before taxes are taken out, after that we have to report it, we also have some places that take out so much and put it into our taxes. I also do Bing rewards which is prizes, yet I have to pay taxes on any one item if I get over $200 worth of stuff in a year. Of course that has not happened yet. But I did have to make out the form and send it in just in case. If I ever get up enough tickets to get the laptop, I am sure I will be paying some taxes on that.

Thanks for the response pmbhuntress! this means that even if you earn something from a prize worth $200 it is taxable there, not yet happening to where I am now even for online earners to declare their taxes.

I think most government ask that you declare your income and pay taxes accordingly. Most countries have the cut off point as in below a certain amount of income, don't have to pay income tax.
It does not matter where our income is coming from, it is still income and as such, we should declare it.
I admit that before the Paypal/RBI thing, I don't really bother to put my Paypal balance into my bank account, instead use them to buy things online. Now that I have to transfer my Paypal balance to my bank account, the Government knows about it and I see no reason to hide it anyway. The sum is so small that it is not going to add much to the tax I need to pay anyway.

Yes, in India you even need your PAN card to apply for Paypal account where we don't do in our own country since it is customer-bank transaction.Anyway, if our government will implement, of course I have nothing against it.

our country has encouraged us to report any source of income that we have. I dont think I will be reporting my online activities as I have not yet earned anything nor have anything in my paypal account.

Well, this would be good in some aspects as I am sure there are a lot of people who make quite a bit online, and get quite a bit added to their paypal account and never pay taxes on it, and for some this might not seem fair. But to Tax everyone I am not sure it could work and not sure how they would do this. But you never can tell.

It's not a big deal for me if they ask for tax. But if they make sure that all online jobs or online earnings are all legitimate so that earnings will continuously flow and able us to pay taxes as the government required us to do...
If they cannot sure about all websites that we work is legitimate. They should not impose that particular laws but they impose it to the owner of the sites that provide earnings

If I make enough money I do pay taxes on my income.... you get a break because you are an independent contractor and some of the jobs I have had I fill out a I-9 form before starting..... If you make $600 or more they turn it in just like a job..... but then you turn around and take off expenses so it all works out and keeps you out of trouble in the long run

I hope this will never happen in the future. I think the government has no right to lat us pay taxes for earning online. I mean we only earn a few bucks here and not really a means to support the family. Maybe for big time online earners it will be possible. But hopefully they won't get a big amount for the tax. I hate tax, especially here on our country. Even if you work hard, the salary is still not enough for you because a big part is already taken for the tax.

Ideally, online earners should disclose their earnings for tax purposes. The concept of taxation is that you are liable for taxes whatever your source of income may be, whether legal or illegal. The problem is in tracking the money that people earn online. If earnings cannot be tracked, governments cannot say you are evading payment.

Here in the UK it is law that all incomed is declared to our tax departmen. I am a self-employed person and I do earn a small income from the my on-line activities and this has to be included in my accounts and added to the money I get from my business. It has always had to be that way and if other countries do not insist on this, then this is fortunate for them. _Derek

hi Strawberrychocodahi,
now a days the Govt is interested to grab the money from the people through taxes,to that extent they have imposed service tax on several services,so govt can do any thing for their revenue, the Govt may impose tax on our online earnings, but what is our income comming from online earning,if it increases it may add to our regular income and show it in our tax return documents, have a nice day

Oh in my case I don't think the government would be after my two cents per post!
It may be possible in the future. But I hope the government will target the owners of those sites first before the members because the former gets the larger chunk.

If I am not mistaken, the Americans who earn from mylot have to declare to the income tax too.
In my country, they have not started yet.
I believe it will be the same once other countries have such practice.
By right, we have to declare whatever source of income we have to the income tax department.
ha! ha! ha!
In my country, only those who have annual income for more than certain amount have to pay for the income tax. Those who have less than that amount in their annual income will exempted.
This is Malaysia.
