I guess it could work both ways if you think about it...I'm being a women of course have the toilet seat down and my honey being a guy always puts it up, lucky for me he puts it back down when he's finished so in the middle of the night when I have to peeee and don't turn on the light I don't get my butt wet by falling in the toilet
But isn't it only fair to say "Why should men put the seat down for women and not women putting the seat up for men"?

All out of courtesy I guess. I can't remember ever putting up for my boyfriend so just out of habit, being that I have a son, I just always remember to put it down as I walk into the washroom.
I don't think I have complained although I do have to say that while my son was growing up I did teach him to put both lids down. Simply out of courtesy as who wants to walk into the washroom and see the lids open anyways. lol
Apparently it was not a rule in my boyfriends upbringing though because I don't think I have ever seen it down, since I have lived with him.

I do not think we were taught anything in particular. My dad had six sisters so he always put the lid down. My brother uses one bathroom, his wife uses the Master Bath, and he does not put the seat down, at least half the time. It is his house, though, and so I do not worry about it or get bent out of shape. As I said elsewhere, we also shut the lid completely so that the kitties do not drink something unhealthy.

My vet says that IF you keep your toilet clean as you should, toilet water is healthier for our pets than giving them their own water bowl as most people just keep adding water to the water bowl & don't wash it out regularly & the poor pets are drinking stagnant, unhealthy water...where toilet water is refreshed numerous times throughout the day as it is flushed!!!

lol I guess you make a point here after all it was my boyfriends home before I moved in. lol...
Oh gosh yes the pets would drink out of there so that is a good reason.

Hellooo, the toilet has a lid. You lift the lid to use the convenience then you close it again so the microbes are contained in the bowl. It's not about up for boys and down for girls.
Anything thast has a lid is meant to have the lid on and closed when not in use.

WHY should the man put the seat down for his woman??? Because his Momma taught him to!!!
Why doesn't the woman put the seat up for her man??? Because Daddy didn't teach her to because Momma trained him better!!!
I've always wondered WHY a man couldn't hit the hole WITHOUT raising the seat??? Make him an offer he's interested in & he'll hit a hole MUCH smaller!!!

Hmm, I don't know Jen. That may be true when they tinkle, but they'd still be at risk if they have to go #2.

I guess it is one of those things like a guy opening car door for women. I have never seen a woman open a door for a man. It started that way years ago and has stayed.
Beside that in my house I end up going to the potty more than hubby does so it is easier for him to put it back down then me raising it up 100 times a day..LOL.
Cute discussion and you have a good nite. Keep smiling.

We even go so far as to shut the lid so that the cats do not drink toilet cleaning chemicals. I agree that it is a fifty fifty thing.

Yeah if I complain I want it down the I would have to make it a point to bring it up after I use it so. So I guess I am in the winning because I have to say I use the washroom more so ours is more likely to be down most of the times. lol

Hi. missybear. You are right about this. I do wonder why we both can't work together to help each other out. Whenever my husband uses the bathroom, he never puts the toilet seat back down at all. Maybe my son will, when I tell him to though. I am thinking that we both don't want to touch the toilet seat, even if it means that we are helping each other out, I guess.

It really gets me going when the male population of my household will forget to put the toilet seat back down. I don't like having to check all of the time before i go to sit down. It can be embarrassing when you sit down on the toilet only to find you are not really sitting after all.

Sender621,
I've sat down on my male household population's you know what more than I'd like to... and I'm telling you embarrassed is not how I describe it. You should see me stomping out of the bathroom...the guilty parties would just laugh... that's because he's five...LOL!! I think he does this on purpose sometimes:)

I agree with that. If we women don't bother to lift the seat for men, we really should not be expecting them to put it down for us.
In my house, no one does lifting or putting down the toilet seat for anyone. If my husband goes, it stays up. When I go, I put it down and it stays down. I don't mind it and he definitely don't mind it.
I don't see what the big deal is anyway. It does not take 2 seconds to put it up or down.
From your comment, I can see you are talking about toilet at work. Again, I don't see that it matters a lot. I would prefer to have a gender separated washroom in public place, failing that, I don't think I will ever complain about toilet seat being up or down as long as the toilet is clean.

You're right it doesn't really matter it's just the principal at work cause it's the 1 guy that does it always.
There is probably 20 women and 3 men at my work so you would think he put it down for us women

Maybe men should just leave it down all the time...ohh wait a minute...with our bad aim your butt would probably get wet anyway...LOL

Down.
I like it down not only because I don't want to fall in accidentally in the middle of the night, but because I wouldn't want objects (like toothbrushes, hairbrushes, etc) falling in either. But if they did, I wouldn't be the one fishing these items out as I wouldn't have left the toilet seat up to begin with!
If you think about it I am actually doing men a favor. At least the ones in my household anyway.
Happy mylotting!

If you have kids or animals you are probably used to keeping the lid down

I seem to recall Ann Landers or Dear Abby making the argument that it should be left in the "natural" position, which is down. I would also argue that if you have animals that could drink from the toilet, much better to leave it down.

My dog never drank from the toilet that I knew of but I like it when the whole lid is down and you're looking at the pretty seat cover

I know it’s so nasty when you go to the rest room and sit on the toilet when the seat is up has happened to me two times in my life. I don’t think that women should put the sit up for men since they have to put it down to their other need sitting down so if they put it down before they need to use the toilet sitting down it won’t hurt them. I know it’s a thing that most couples might argue on some occasions and for other they will never have to touch the subject and great for those that don’t have to argue about it. It’s something so easy that men can do and that we women in a hurry don’t pay attention and need for them to put it down for us. YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU TO ALL MEN.

hmm.. You make a good point. Right now I am single, live with my mother and there's no need to get angry at anybody for not putting the seat down. Grew up with two boys(brothers)my mother was very strict when it came to the toilet seat, they obeyed her, I guess I will have to be patient if I ever get a husband and if he leaves the seat up--I am not touching the toilet seat, uh, no way, is not polite to leave the toilet seat up, I was raised that way.
If my future husband is so stubborn, I am going to have to teach him not to leave it up or do what you said, let the seat up for him and he can put the seat down for me

It is always my habit to put the seat up after i pee. That's because my husband might not put it down while he pees and would wet it by some tricking urine of his. I don't mind if i am the one always putting the seat up, because what matters to me is that i am assured that my seat won't get wet.

I have my own bathroom no one uses it besides me so whether I leave the toilet seat up or down it doesn't matter so much at all.
