I'm very ecstatic as a father right now. We just received my daughter's CRCT test scores. And it's official, we got some young scholars in our household. Our 9yr old just got her CRCT scores back, and she either met all requirements in reading and in science, EXCEEDED in Language Arts and Social Studies, and my all time favorite, she GOT the HIGHEST SCORE in her class in MATH! Help me congratulate her, why don't ya! Reading: 845 Met Language Arts: 866 EXCEEDED! Math: 901 EXCEEDED (Highest in our class!) Science: 837 Met Social Studies: 850 EXCEEDED! I love seeing those EXCEEDED's after her scores. So you know that calls for a celebration don't you! With scores like her brother's previous year's test. We have got to do something super special for her, especially since she's a daddy's girl (HA!). For those that don't know CRCT tests are GA state tests. CRCT = Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests ~ the scores measure how successfully students in the Georgia school system acquire knowledge and skills. For the discussion part of this post: What kind of awesome news have you recently received that has simply made your week/month/year?

That's fantastic Henry! Everyone thinks their children can conquer the world, but I think your children really can! It shows up in their work. And that she is so good in the math department - that will get her far. As for good news around here? There really is none. My mom's dementia continues to get worse. She's got the body of a 51 year old, but the mind of a two year old. And I'm not exaggerating. But there is one good thing going this week. Every year my dad's church sends him to a pastors conference in Chicago at Moody Bible Institute. A lot of his pastor friends come, and a lot of his regular church friends come. They stay for about five days and hear preaching, worship, and pretty much get refreshed with their fellow brothers in Christ. And every year when he comes home from it, my dad is so refreshed and excited about what God has planned for our church. And right now I know he needs this fellowship so much. I'm so glad he got to go. My mom is staying with her mom right now. So my dad doesn't have to worry about that. And I'm so glad. I'm thinking about putting up a sign in his house so when he comes home he'll see a big sign that says something like 'we love you' or 'you're appreciated.

Amber, so saddened by the news of your mother. It has to hard on your entire family, especially your dad. There is good news though. I'd share more, but rather send you a PM. Basically, I know a doctor friend that may be able to help. Will send you some info soon.

bdance22, sometimes employees worry a bit too much about what other co-workers/bosses think of them. It can become so destructive that it can prevent you from being successful I'm excited for you though, especially with this new found information regarding your boss.

Dearra's been having a rough 2nd half of the year, so I was happy to see her get all her important grades up to at least B's. And Cary, who has autism, got an award (B average), and so did Naomi (A average). So I"m pretty pleased....

Congratulations to you and your daughter! Well, to the question part. The only awesome news that I have that made my first year in college life is that being in the honor roll or dean's list for my first two semesters! It's a great start for me because in High school, I never experienced being in the Honor's list. I was actually the in the bottom of the class! Now, I really believed what my teachers would tell us every time in class during High school. That most of the students that do not excel in High school would eventually excel in college life or even after college! Again, congratulations on your daughter's success!

That is so great that you are doing exceptionally well outside of your past. It is indeed wonderful how we can change our situations/futures and experience a totally different outlook/aspect of life, simply by making a decision and acting out upon it!

To answer the title question, yeah there's a scholar in the family. It's me, actually. ^_^ It's the first time I've ever got accepted into a scholarship program, and it's for a Master's degree! and to answer your second question, awesome news? That's it! I am the first scholar in our family. It makes me feel proud, happy, anxious, scared, pressured, and everything else at the same time!

WOW! logantheman, that is pretty awesome yourself dude! What are you studying in college? My 9 yr daughter and 7 yr old son and 5 yr old daughter are literally a long ways from being in college, but you know with grades like that, they'll be exceedingly great in whatever school they choose. Plus, they will have exceedingly great options!

A cousin on mine was accepted into harvard, which was no surprise because she is a genius,I am one of the lucky few who made it into colleges due to sports.

It don't matter how you got there, just get there when you can! Good for you, it takes a genius in the area of sports to handle the pressures/temptations that are all involved with whatever area of sports you play in.
