Being the Philippine National Red Cross’s long-time partner in blood donation our charity institution is considered as top blood donor for several years already. I am so eager to donate blood since i already resigned from my night shift job which doesn't allow me to donate blood for the past years. I am so confident waiting my turn for health check. My happiness turns to frown when our nurse make face as if saying "the guts girl" . I asked her...then she told me...your hemoglobin count is too low,are you working night shift blah, blah I want to throw tantrums...okay i want to sleep, can i have one of those beds ? Have you ever tried donating your blood or are you scared of that syringe (not too big compared to the one they use for spinal huh) How is your health...are you health conscious and are you healthy enough to donate blood? Do you have enough sleep or get enough sleep each night or you are also a night owl like me? Whatever...i feel dizzy for these past few days and i want to sleep for at least 10 hours a day :p means- less mylotting uh uh :(( (where's my emoticon) :0

Sleep.. Sleep.. Sleep.. After that, go back to that nurse, wide awake. As for me, I HATE NEEDLES injected on me. I hate them because I'm afraid of them. I was so scared that the nurse couldn't find my veins. Haha! They say, "Please calm down and relax so we can see you veins." Well, who cares, I'm nervous, what can I do?? **sigh** And I remember the last time I went for a blood test to get my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level. I was injected four times!! Darn those nurses, they keep injecting me even though my veins aren't visible..

I was afraid of needles too before, but after my 3 operations- i never feel afraid of those needles (^_^) But when my youngest son was hospitalized and nurse's can't find his veins with one try,i really cried and asked for a doctor to make it for the second time.

thats terrible im sorry that they injected you four times. thats really sad and for sure it hurts a lot. if they couldnt find at least they should be sure of finding it before injecting it. i understand why you are afraid of needles. who wouldnt be after what they did to you? really sorry. anyway i wish that you dont be on this situation ever again^^ and sure is normal that we feel nervous^^ we just see a very big needle what can we do? smile? ahah^^ impossible really

Um, the needle wasn't big actually. And it doesn't even hurt me the first time. I am JUST afraid!!! Waaaaaah!!! I don't know what keeps me scared of that ****ing needle! Oooops, sorry, I got carried away by my emotions. LOL But honestly, the needle they used on me wasn't big and doesn't hurt. Okay, I told you again about that. =)

Well, like you i would like to donate my blood too. I just don't have the time yet to do it. But speaking of lack of sleep, i do lack sleep during weekdays because i have to get up early in the morning to prepare for work, so as not to get late. So maybe, i too will be declined if ever i donate now.

Let me know what did you experience after donating blood. I have donated twice or thrice, however no major complication arose and I was back to normal after few hours.

hi! for several times, i have planned to donate blood in one of our local hospitals near our home in the province. i even made a couple of inquiries on how the process is. but everytime i'm supposed to attend the screening, an urgent schedule would suddenly manifest itself and i will be needed elsewhere. i also made myself available for my sick uncle since last year when my cousin asked for blood donors from relatives because last year, he was too sick he almost went into dialysis already. since my blood tests shows i'm relatively healthy and capable of donating blood, i was already a "reserved blood donor" for my uncle should he need me. but luckily for my uncle, since introducing to him our herbal supplements, his health has improved and dialysis is no longer an option. to increase your rbc or red blood cells or hemoglobin count, you need a regular 6-8 hours of restful sleep, proper hydration and lots of highly alkaline foods like green leafy vegies as a daily intake. too much or too little sleep both have bad effects in our system. the dizzy spells could either be lack of sleep or not enough water in our body and in our bloodstream... or even fatigue or stress. i know you know what you've got to do, what your body is telling you to. hehe take care.

I have donated in the past, but I have also had an anemia problem in the past. You might look into taking iron to build up your red blood cell supply...

I think the last time I donated was during the big blood drives after 9-11, but with my fibro and food allergies, I have had more trouble keeping the blood up where it needs to be to donate

Sleep only isn't going to get your hemoglobin up. You need good nutrition too. Eat a lot of foods with iron and vitamin content. You can do an internet search to get a list of the appropriate foods. Believe me, sleep alone isn't going to do it.

Ok, then, if you're on top of things. I still suggest that you get more vitamins and blood building nutrition out of the proper foods. Supplements can't give you 100%.

I am healthy, there's no problem with my health (opsss...mild heart problem,so far my heart beat is fine EGC says so) i just need more sleep, sleep and sleep. I am diet conscious and now back with my supplements.

awww that is bad jaiho..but then if you have given blood and your hemoglobin is low it will also be bad for you..try to bring back some of that hemoglobin and try to donate later or some time I personally is afraid of syringe and injections and blood...so i might as well not give...i might if i know where to find courage.

Thanks to my reckless chain smoking during my college days... they never allowed me to donate... Once I did gift my blood to a friends youngest sister who had fallen off from the terrace and was in critical state... That was the only time I did it and it really felt like a blessing... I could make use of something that I have. Now, it has been 16+ years that I gave up the bad habit but still they wont allow me to donate blood as I am always on medications since the past 11 years and these steroids etc... I am sure have gone too deep in my blood... The worst thing is that I have a "0" as my blood group and I could donate blood to anyone in need.

I was always a skinny skeleton and it was better that they did not have to deny because of my being a Skeleton or Anemic I know the donating of blood does have so many benefits - the best is that the heart stays fit longer as the oxygen levels stay good if you are a regular donor... I could never donate because of the anemic and boney physique... So I smile it off saying the smoking thing - though smoking is unhealthy but I was a chain smoker...

It really feels great to help other people. And it really sucks if you can't. Don't worry dear, you are not alone here. I too can't donate blood for the longest time because I am underweight. I think we need to work hard to meet their qualification. You sleep more, while I eat more. Well there are other ways to help other people. You can have a donor card if you want.

hello cher, It will lower your immune system the moment you are taken blood, and asthma might attack so to avoid, they won't allow you to donate. It's for your own good too my friend. Take of your health anyway,i know how hard it is when asthma attack,i have nephews and nieces who are suffering same condition like yours.

I haven't been able to donate blood because my iron is usually low. I've tried over the years when I as able to (not pregnant) and they said my iron was low. I give credit to those who do give blood faithfully, because it is a big help. Needles don't really scare me, if I could only get my iron up then I would probably be able to donate blood.

hello tlb, I always admire people who volunteers with this project. Here alone in our place, hundreds of people are needing blood everyday. And i want to save one at least for every 3 months..but this blood count gives me trouble. hi jaiho you need to take some iron every day to bring your blood count u p where it belongs then your hemoglobin will come up where it is safe to donate blood. then you can be a happy camper and give of your blood to help someone else. I cannot donate blood as I had hepatitis in my early twenties and they do not want my blood. lol it stinks not to be able to donate blood like others.I am also a night owl but with having a roommate I must go to bed by ten o clock which I dislike as I get more done mylotting by staying up til 1 am..Anemia will sap your strength so you do need to take iron to build up your hemoglobin .Dizzyness also comes with anemia and thats another reason to get iron and really built ups your strenght.

Hi, I think there are other ways you can help then. It not just the blood donation, but we can also help by volunteering, right? I too cannot donate a blood, its because of my tattoo which I have during my youthful years. Its a big disappointment for me too. But I made some contribution by allowing myself to take part on educating the students in some schools by participating in the Red Cross activities. Once or twice a year do the volunteering work.

their just doing their job, the quality of blood that they will take needs to pass a certain grade. The blood will be tested and the testing takes time , effort and money. they screen out those who they know will not pass the right away to give way to other donations. With enough sleep and rest you could be donatin' blood in no time. Chill .
