In some countries people are not longer allowed to smoke in the public places and office buildings. Do you think this is a good rule or bad rule? I think not allowing smoking in public places and office building is a very good rule. I will improve peoples health and also improve work productivity. Smoking is unhealthy and more over when smokers smokes in the public places, it makes other people passive smokers that can make others sick as there can be some non-smoker who are allergic to smoking. There are many more reasons. What do you say? Support it?

I highly support this rule and I hope this will be implemented religiously for the sake of saving the second hand smokers as well. Smoking also lowers the body's immunity and makes it probe to all type of cancer.

Yes you are right. Smoking lowers body's immunity system. Non-smoker tend to get annoyed and jealous because smokers have a right to smoke in public place forcing them to breathe harmful air. This even violates their rights.

I don't see it as a good point here. As we look deep into the reason that why people smoking, the main reason is the pressure they had with. It happens especially in busy cities, where life needs to overcome pressure sure as the money, family and work place, the people did smoke more often. Some of them saying that smoking can release their tension; although it is not good for health, they still going to do it as they have not many ways to release pressure.

I wholeheartedly support this rule. Smoking has many health risks, including lung cancer and other disease, for both the smoker and the people around him or her. I once read statistics that thousands of people die of [b]preventable[/b ]second-hand smoking (what people are referring to as "passive smoking"). I agree with all the people that said this is a good rule as it will help reduce the negative consequences of smoking. There is absolutely no evidence showing any health benefits of smoking. However, I would like to point out that although this is a start, more can and needs to be done to curb smoking and its negative effects.

In our state of West Bengal, smoking in office buildings is banned. But I have seen even open smoking in hospitals without any hesitation. So a mere rule without any proper vigilance over it would never be able to cope with the problem of smoking here and there and thus making others vulnerable to so much health hazards.

Hospitals use pure oxygen to help those with breathing difficulties..What kind of a hospital would allow smoking where oxygen was available or in use?!

There is a ban against smoking in public places in Davao City. And the people here enforce it, just like in Singapore where private citizens, taxi drivers and all will request you not to smoke. Here, restaurant owners and waiters, drivers, and the like will advise you to go some place else if you want to smoke. It may have impact on the inflow of casual and spontaneous tourists, though, but no study has really been made on this. But on balance, I think the impact is positive. and I support it.

I support this rule. As a courtesy to those who are smokers, this should be implemented. Like in Japan, it is implemented. Smokers have their own room in which they can smoke, and they are the one who can breathe their own smoke. We heard of the news one time while we were in the office, One Japanese was caught smoking while walking going to work, That news spread like fire because officials get the attention of all working in that building if that person is from their office. its a big deal for them if that person is from their department. What a shame.

Oh! It is interesting to know that Japan has implemented such rule. Yea such country should initiate such rules. But it is also important to think about the sentiments and emotions of the smokers. Letting them smoke in a room is not a problem i think, but some of they may feel that the government is not being considerate to them.

Were I live,in the state of Wisconsin it is law you can't smike in public places and office buildings. I think it is a good idea for some of it. With bars they should be allowed like they used to and resturants should too. Resturants used to have smoking and non smoking sections. When I come home at night I see lot os bar goers smking outside of the bars! If someone smkes and I am at a bar I can move to a different part. what pisses me off the most is when people smoke in their home with children around! My sister-in-law who did before she quit and she did for years! Now that really bothers me!

I really support this rule. Aside for health purposes, in a democratic or non-democratic country, each person has a natural and lawful right to clean air to breathe on. Smoking in public places prevents others to enjoy the natural resource of clean and healthy amount of oxygen. So I am pro to this law.

I am a big fan of banning smoking in public places. Smoking is detrimental to the health of not only those doing the smoking, but everyone else around them as well. If you want to ruin your health, go ahead, but do it in private where it doesn't affect random bystanders. Also, I used to be a waitress and it was horrible being exposed to smoke to be able to make a living. The really sad thing is that where I worked, even the girls that were smokers didn't want to work in the smoking section.

Everyone agrees smoking is bad, yet people cannot live without it. They should create rooms without ventilation where only smokers are allowed to go, and no where else on earth can they smoke. It will serve 2 purposes: 1. free those who dislike the smoke and the bad-effects 2. let the smokers smell for themselves how it is like to have to smell their smoke. Maybe they might like it, but as long as it does not affect the rest of the world, hey, everyone gains. I wonder if smokers ever calculate how much they could save in their lifetime if ever they had not smoked at all. Maybe they might be going around in luxury cars.

It is a good idea about having a room for them to smoke in. But we must think how possible it is. Will they agree to go inside and smoke there? Some of they may agree. There are smokers who are willing to quit smoking but they are unable to do so due to addiction. Such smokers would follow such rules but there are also some youths who wants to smoke in front of crowd as they find themselves manly, smart and rocking. This is the one of the reason why people are getting addicted to smoking.

Yea you are right and hope so. I think in many countries, it is being implemented and it really will help the non smokers to be healthy. Smoking affects a lot those who are suffering from cough and cold.

I support this wholeheartedly! I heard that second hand smoke is even more harmful than smoking itself. I try to live a healthy life so why should my health be threatened by smoking when I'm not even the one doing the smoking?? I live with someone who smokes and you have no idea how frigging mad I get whenever she smokes and she smokes like a pack a day! IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE! God I'm getting mad just thinking about it! I really can't stand the smell and the smell lingers for a full ten minutes after finishing the whole godawful stick! I say ban them AND tax them! No offense to people who smoke, its just my opinion

Thanks for your support. Yes I too face difficulty adapting with my friends who smoke. They even come to my room and smoke. I am quite sure that smoking cannot be banned as the smokers have their own right but taxing them has already started in some of the countries like Bhutan. By taxing them, it can reduce the number of smoker if not it would at least reduce the number of youths who are trying to start smoking. It is quite sure that it will be difficult for addicts to quit but there are some smokers who are not addicted but still they smoke as they find themselves manly when they smoke. So taxing smokers can prevent such smokers.

I don't smoke but never really worried about second hand smoking. I guess the law is okay but some private businesses should have the choice to allow smoking or not. Smoking should be banned in public buildings.

I also think that smoking is unhealthy even though I'm a smoker. I think the law is just right to implement because there are also a lot people who doesn't smoke and their life is being put in danger having to sniff second hand smoke. It's just right for the government to prohibit smoking in public.

It's a good rule to ban smoking in all public places. It's bad for the smoker and for people nearby who have to be contaminated by the smoke. There are many scientific proof how bad smoking are for the people who smoke and for the people who have to put up with it.

I totally approve this rule. I hate smokers that don't care about the others and keep spreading the smoke to everyone. I think this rule should exist in all countries, but unfortunately is very difficult to supervise if the rule is being followed. One day, I watched on TV that on Japan they follow this rule and give penalties to the smokers that don't follow the rule.

I support it. Because it is an advantage for those really not smoke. This same rule is dont in Turkey. But the success of this rule depends on those who implement it. There are cafes and restaurants who really go with the rules. They say there will be penalties for those who will be caught smoking... but it was just two months or so after, then the smokers are back. If any government want to implement something like this, it is very impressive... but then it should not end where it starts... they should monitor it and make sure it will be followed for good.

It absolutely is! Aside from all the reasons you've mentioned, it's just plain rude when you're walking and someone suddenly blows smoke in your face. I just hate it when that happens! So a law prohibiting smoking in public is definitely something GREAT.
