Not a good weekend

Scamp - my pretty boy

I know some of you already have seen this on other forums, but... I lost my beloved Scamp over the weekend. I'm not sure exactly when he died, but I found him last night. He was just 14, and didn't seem to be in bad health so I don't know what happened. I decided it is too hot and the ground too dry to try and bury him, so I've taken him to the vet to be cremated. I can't get the ashes back, didn't have the money for that, but I'm going to make some kind of token for him. He was a good cat. Not a smart cat, not a lot of things, but he was beautiful and sweet. So, if I don't seem to be responding to things much, well, I think you can guess why... This isn't really a discussion, more of an obit for my beloved Scamp.

Honestly, if you had told me last week we'd lose Scamp before Sassy, I would've said you were crazy... Sassy is 20, looks pretty bad, but like a Timex, she keeps on ticking...

actually, Scamp really didn't like too many cats, I think only a few are missing him, but the ones that would've really missed him passed on already, and they made his life miserable...

I am saddened to hear of you you losing a very precious companion. I know that you will surely miss your cat. But life goes on.. I too have lost a dog way back then, I cried and it was a great loss. So and so that up until now, I still cherish the times I spent with my dog. Just cherish the moments you had with your cat. Perhaps later on you will be able to find another one as sweet and as beautiful.

ElicBxn, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. He is a beautiful cat, and I know you loved him very much. We just can't help to love them, can we? Wow. 14 years. That is a long time to have him around and then just gone all of a sudden. I hate it for you. I really do. Anyone who loves their pets knows how you are feeling, and it is very hurtful and sad. I had to put my 13 year old chihuahua/fiest to sleep a couple years ago, and oh I missed her and still do. I always said we grew old together. For the last 8 years, it was just the two of us. She was my little buddy and went with me in the car anyplace it was acceptable for her to go. She had her own seat on the passenger side, and she knew that belonged to her. I hope you feel better soon. Again, I am so sorry.

Thank you chrstaltears. He was quite a cat, not smart like most of my cats, but very sweet and the prettiest one of the lot (in my never to be humble opinion.)

I am so sorry about Scamp! Did you have him the whole 14 years? I know how hard it is to lose a pet. It is hard if they are really old or sick, but worse if they are not.

Sorry to hear about your Cat. I know it is a loss when you loose a pet, and it can be a Sad time. Since I got married we have lost 2 pets. Went a couple yrs. between the 2 of not owning one, but you get so attatched. Hope you are feeling a little better now, and just take time for yourself.

Thanks, I'm kind of wondering if any cat is going to move into first place in my heart that Scamp has so soundly occupied for so long... I hate to promote one of my "sons" into that spot ahead of the other... but I may go for something completely different and go with Timus. I know I won't have him as long as a younger, healthier cat, but he's just such a sweet boy...

Aaawwww, I am so sorry for your loss. It's always so sad and hard when we lose our feline friends. Please be reassured that many of us, myself included, feel your pain. We're here for you.

Nef knows that you are missing Scamp. I have had that happen. Even if the one cat disliked the other, they get all sympathetic if something happens to one of them.

Thanks, I'm still thinking "Scamp?" when I see Nef, and she's been especially sweet lately.

I'm sorry. It sounds like he went peacefully when his time came, which is all a cat could ever ask for really. Hugs.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I do believe that is about the life span for a cat. It could have been just old age. I have 3 manx cats now and i plan on cremation for them too.

Wow that cat is really old. My cats are still quite young then. Miss Kitty Kat (mama) is only 6yrs, Missy Sissy Kat (daughter) and Bubba Kat (son) are only 4 yrs. So the 4 of us still have a number of yrs together. Many more yrs with the 3 stooges here. Every time Kitty gets in trouble she kit abuses which everone is closes to her.

Elic.....I am so sorry that Scamp went on to Rainbow Bridge. I do know how you feel. I still reference photos and memories of the pets that I have lost. One of my cats lived for 13 years and was truly a hard loss. Know that Scamp will live on in your heart.

I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our cat of 12 years a few months ago. Losing a pet is like losing a member of the family. We grow so attached to them and they are so much a part of our lives that losing them brings emptiness. I believe we will meet them again when we die, even though not everyone believes this way. God made our pets for a purpose and I believe they live on as we live on. Take care and God Bless

Yeah, even the ones we can't touch we hate to lose. We have a semi-feral who has been very sick, but we still don't want to lose her, even if we can mostly just look at her.

It's hard to lose an old friend. The heat this year has been unending, perhaps it took its toll on him. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks, it has been a strange week. would you believe I've seen Elizabeth, the black feral, more this week than I have in the last 6 months? Maybe I've seen her and thought it was Scamp, she looks a lot like he did, but smaller... She's never going to be tame tho...
