Sometimes I find myself restless to the point where I can't sleep. I'm up all night until one or two in the morning. I check my emails just for the hell of it, play games, read a book or even eat because I'm bored. Taking sleep aids helps but, in the morning I end up sleeping in. I'd tired but, my head is spinning and it's all over the place but the pillow. What do you do when you can't sleep?

I do the house chores
since house chores feels like never ending, so there is always something to be done
usually, I will get tired after doing it for two hours
and in the morning, I give my self extra time to sleep since I had done some of the house chores earlier

I have had my times where I cannot sleep as well. I would usually just lie on my back and not get up. I will also pick up my phone and see if. I can have some hands games on and play until I get tired. Usually that would do the trick since I am not a gamer and games bore me. Haha

When I can't sleep, I play really soft, calming music and try to clear my mind. The calming music is really helpful and it's said that it helps your brain relax as well. So when you wake up, you feel quite refreshed.

I usually read a book if I cannot sleep, somehow this help me dose off. But really when your adrenaline is really up, its pretty hard to go to sleep even if you did read already, check your emails, etc. I had that experience just this weekend due to overwhelming news that I got. I wasn't able to go to sleep until 2A.M. and was up at around 4:30AM, tried to go back to sleep but I can't. So I get up and ate my early breakfast, eat some banana and afterwards, I think the banana calm me down and was able to sleep during much of the day.

I will watch television and browse internet indefinitely and peek through all kinds of websites and making comments or call some friends and talk to them if they also don't get sleep, may be at least we can bore them by calling and simply talking about nothing :)

Plying games especially a chess game against computer is very affective to me.Besides hearing nostalgic music in low volume in the silence of the night, try to write down about the first time incidents even from the childhood that exist in memory etc. Trying to recollect the first incident of life that one has in memory takes a lot of boredom away.

Some times when I feel myself hooking up in such a situation, I use to memorize my school days, how much I used to enjoy my school days, then after sometime I find myself feeling really relaxed and then I can sleep very well. You must also do such kind of things to burn the stress out of your mind.

Sounds like me. When my husband was on vacation I found myself going to bed earlier and watching tv up there and taking my sleeping med earlier. I have admit I slept so much better, but awake earlier because I took my medication earlier.
Unfortunately I am not as comfortable in bed when my husband is there (he works shift work so there are times when I sleep alone). I think maybe we need a king sized bed and more pillows. LOL!
I will read when I have trouble sleeping, then I will look at the clock and it's 3am and I can't believe I haven't dozed off yet - and I take sleep meds. Mind you, I think the beginning of menopause is playing a role. I will not go back on the computer though. Once I turn it off for the night I'm done. I spend so much time on here that I don't get much reading done so I would rather read in bed. It usually helps me doze off, but sometimes not.

I came to this discussion to read about solutions to sleeplessness at night but it seems many of us have the same problem and we do the thing when we can't sleep; that is go online, read a book, listen to the ipod etc, etc. But that still doesn't make me sleep earlier. Oh well I guess I have to live with it.

I do something to relax, put on the ipod with my favorite music, read funny stories or just concentrate on my breathing making sure to breath in through my nose and out through the mouth. The last one done slowly is so boring you would be sure to drop off as long as you keep concentrating and don't think of anything else. Watching the TV is tempting but it stimulates the brain and keeps you awake longer.

I really hate having difficulty starting to sleep at night. Thats why i tried to find ways in order to relieve this problem. I see to it that i drink warm milk before going to bed. I dont take sleeping aids coz i dont want my body to depend on it, instead when i lay down on bed il start listening to mellow music. Thats my sleeping pill.
