I've talked about a lot of my cats, and I do believe I've mentioned that I have (had) a 20 year old one.
She died last night, 10 and a half years to the day after we got her.
She was very sweet and a cute little black cat. But this last summer we knew we were near the end.
She tried to hide last night, but we found her and put her in the bathroom so the other cats would leave her alone, but we could find her.
She was gone this morning.
She's now at the Bridge, hopefully she found her previous people, or at least Henry, the cat we got with her from the same house.
She loved people, but never put up with the kittens. She'd take cuddles from cats if they offered them.
Very sad, but she is in a better place now.
Go quietly Sassy, you deserve a nice long rest.

Oh Elic, I'm so sorry for your loss! Like you say though she is in a better place now. She dealt with this life for so long. You gave her a good loving home and she knew you loved her.
She loved you for bringing her to your home and allowing her to be a part of your life.
Hugs to you dear...

Aww, that is such sad news but she did live a really long life and we know that at least the last 10 1/2 years she was well loved.
You may have helped me decide what to name my new kitty that I am getting a bit later today, though. My son's girlfriend told me that she was looking for a home for one of two kittens she rescued. (They were abandoned or lost.) My son told me that I would absolutely love this kitten and, even though I have yet to see her for the first time, I think I'll name her Sassy. That was also the name of my mother's last cat, although he was not what I would have called "sassy". (It's a better name for a girl, anyway, in my opinion.) I just hope my new kitty will be a sassy gal so she isn't too intimidated by my dogs or my monstrous cat, Bean. He's a sweetheart and I know he'll love the new kitty because he desperately wants someone to play with (besides me). The dogs don't want to play with him, they just tolerate him.
I'll have to post a photo of my Sassy once she's here. (That'll be sometime after 4:00 this afternoon.) Wouldn't it be awesome if she is a cute little black cat, too? (I have no idea what she looks like at the moment.)
I hope your other cats don't go into a depression now that Sassy has gone to the Bridge. Are they handling it okay?

they were a bit freaked out before I got Sassy's body out of my bathroom, but honestly, they have pretty much avoided her lately, I think they knew she was dying.
I always hold off trying to name a cat until I determine what they are going to be like - and I do have a policy to never re-use a name, but that's just me...

Well, I'm honestly not sure she's a Sassy. She's the sweetest little girl I've ever known. She curled right up on my lap and went to sleep as soon as we got home, well, after she had a chance to meet all the other members of the house. Bean is not pleased at all and I can't understand that. He didn't have a problem with my husband's cat, maybe because she was here before he arrived, I don't know. I think everything will settle down soon. My dogs seem to have already accepted her although I have no idea what's really rolling around in those little noggins they have. Maybe they're plotting to get rid of her the moment my back is turned.
I'll have to think of a name for an extremely affectionate, ultra sweet gal. She simply doesn't appear to have any sass. I'm not sure what kind she is, gray and white markings with hair that looks like a rag doll's, with little tufts of hair coming out of her ears. I'll have a photo sometime tomorrow. It's been one extremely busy and tiring day here so uploading and cropping is just something I'll have to put off until then.
I know it's very hard to lose one of our babies. Just keep remembering that Sassy is in a better place now with no pain. She really was amazing, though, living 20 years. That really is remarkable.

Sorry to hear about Sassy. She lived a long life. My aunt had several cats that lived into their 20s. But, unfortunately, they can't live as long as their people. :(

Yeah, I wish they all would, but at least we know she didn't end up scared on the streets or at the pound - I really do like older cats, even tho you don't have them as long as a kitten, because they are over all their crazy antics by the time you take them in...

she did have a long life, we don't really know too much before we got her except that she had been someone's special kitty for some time before we got her, but she never acted like some of the spoiled brats we've gotten from other people so I expect that she had spent a little time on the street before she ended up with him.

I am sorry to hear about your loss.
She lived a long happy life while under your care. She is in a good peaceful place and know that she too will miss your wonderful care for her.
Loosing a pet that one owns for so long is not easy to deal with, as the pet becomes part of the family.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh. I am so sorry to hear about Sassy. She lived a long long life, didn't she. I know you all will miss her, but yes sometimes it is time to stop hurting and feeling bad, and her time came. Yes. She is getting to rest now. God bless her. I hope you are doing okay.

So sorry about Sassy. 20 years is a long life, but I am sure it wasn't long enough for you. Knowing they are going is hard to deal with, and then to find them is very hard. I'm sure you will miss her, but at least if she was in pain or anything it is over now.

It is certainly heart rending when we lose our pets who are so much a part of our life. I have gone through this experience several times as we have had pets for years both cats and dogs. Time will heal your loss Elic...

As hard as it is to lose a beloved pet, it's even harder if you never find them. I'm glad you were able to keep her from hiding. I have had cats just disappear on me and the agony of looking for them and never finding them just made the grieving even harder. Hugs, Elic. I'm glad you had so much time with her.

I'm very sorry. I know exactly how you feel. Last week my boyfriend had to put his cat to sleep. She was about 17 years old but it never seems to matter the age; I'm still very sad and I miss them dearly when they go.
This cat was so cool. She thought she was a dog and would come when you called her. She used to belong to my boyfriend's sister-in-law, but he's had her for about 2 or 3 years.
She started to develop an issue that turned out to be cancer and the vet as well as my boyfriend thought it best to put her to sleep.
By the way, his cat's name was also Sassy.

We had to put a cat to sleep this last spring because of cancer, it was so hard to watch her getting so sick. my vet doesn't randomly put animals down and they sure understood doing it to Tuti.
Sassy is a good name for a cat, some of them just EARN the name!

Sassy really is a great name. I was just thinking about that very thing the other day. Something tells me that there will be another Sassy in the very near future.
Yes, watching our beloved pets go down hill is so very hard. Our Sassy didn't suffer, and I reassure my boyfriend that he definately did the right thing.
We also have a very understanding vet as you do.
Time will heal out wounds.

Awww, I'm sorry Elic, to hear about the loss of your cat. It's so hard. But I know she had a good life with you and that makes it better. That was so kind of you to put her in the bathroom so she could be at peace. I'm sure she's feeling much better now and for sure, she's with her previous people and Henry. Again, I'm sorry to hear.

Sorry to hear about your dear cat. She is in a better place now. It must be real hard to see her go though, and 20 years is a long time. She and I were the same year. I had a friend who cried so much when her dog had to be put to sleep. I never understood why the relation between a pet and an owner was so deep coz we have not had a pet for a real long time now but I we did have one dog when I was a kid an when i think of him and us, i understand.
