My daughter asked for a tablet on her birthday, yeah those gadget that is so in right now, tablet..like those ipads but the cheaper one. I purchased one for her last October 20 for her birthday..it cost me 3,000.00 its a bit expensive already ( for me that is) but its cheaper than the real ones.. anyways, she was happy about it.. but..BUT! just two weeks after - guess what? its not charging anymore. I checked it and i asked her and she told me, its not charging mama..and i asked her why and she said the charger wont fit the port..and i looked at the tablet and showed it to hubby who is the techie one..and he said that the port was like blocked.. and the charger wont fit..and i am wondering right now how it happened! just as expected it wont last but there is still hope, it is on warranty thank god!! how long does your kids toys or things last?? before i purchased her a wrist watch and it only last for 1 day,she dipped her hand in a bowl of water and with the watch on!

tablets huh? Well I love tablets...but not the kind you are talking about! I love the kinds of tablets of PAPER!!! yes, back in the day my brothers and sister would zoom to the toy isle...I'd zoom to the office supply isle and covetly eyeball all the tablets and cool writing stuff! Now, my 11 yo GD...is also hooked on office supply stuff and particularly tablets and we can't even go to the Dollar store without cruising the paper isle and choosing a cool tablet! I used to give her a stocking from Santa...and it had all that cool office supply stuff...tablets, post-it's, pencils, erasers..etc. Still love it! And I never had to recharge anything! Just get another one!

I am smiling as I am reading this and feeling your frustration. I had 5 children and each had their own things they wanted LOL boy it was sad to see me spending my precious money and watching them throw it in a corner a few days after Christmas or birthday etc. My youngest is 21 turning 22 in Dec so for his birthday/Christmas gift I got him a digital SLR Camera with lens etc. Yea I just spent some money on it. He has been wanting to have one of these cameras and I have never been able to just afford to get him one. I am hoping he respects me for being able to finally purchase him one and that now since he is older will appreciate it and take very good care of it. Even though we teach our children once you give the gift its in their hands then. I have bought my grandchildren gifts that I had hoped they would appreciate never to see anything of the gift after the holiday. So I decided to give money in a christmas gift card to let them get what they wanted. Maybe they will get something they really want with it.

wow SLR camera's can be expensive right? wow can i be your daughter?lol. but kidding aside, it hurt a bit to see those gifts you gave them set aside or worse thrown at the side..but they are kids..and thats their nature.

Wow, she looks a little young for such expensive 'toys'. (That could be the problem, they're not really toys to carelessly play with.) SIMPLYD is right. Young kids are curious and want to have fun. They don't appreciate that electronic gadgets such as tablets aren't really playthings and they can cost BIG money.

I purchased her that tablet not for the games in it..well she loves to play those online dress up games.. but i also gave her that because of the reading she gets from it. She is actually still 7 but a bit older in the way she thinks..she knows the money's worth.

That is great that you are encouraging your daughter's learning and reading, but they still do make regular books made of paper that can be dropped and take a beating much better than a electronic gadget will. Unfortunately, accidents happen. Small hands slip and drop things and stick them in water by mistake. It's not just your daughter, but all kids do not have the manual dexterity that develops with maturity and mistakes happen. (You might want to think about a waterproof, shockproof watch next time. )

oh i have that in mind friend, maybe in the future if i will go and purchase, i will really buy one that is shockproof and waterproof..but for Christmas, i will just go buy her a doll

Kids are kids and they do things that are expected of them, destroying toys. My daughter have done this several times, even an expensive Barbie collection was murdered by her. and that make them more endearing, isn't it?

I guess it is fake, but its OS is android so it is quite good actually, tried it with powerpoint and i can make slides in it.. anyways she is 7 and yes she is very good at reading already. She used it not just for the games but for the ebooks that i downloaded for her. It is android with froyo in it. i do not see any kindles sold here Ms.rose :)

@rosebolton Jazel is from the Philippines like me so I'm guessing she meant 3000 Philippine Pesos, and not dollars, so that's about $70. I think I have a similar gadget, a China-made tablet with a 7-inch screen and Android froyo OS, although for me it's not a toy but a thing I actually use for internet surfing and powerpoint presentations during one-on-one client meetings. @jazel_juan I think I have the same gadget but I bought in for 2500 in Divisoria and it already came with a keyboard (which I never use.) It's not exactly a toy for me but something I use at work, but playing farm games from time to time doesn't hurt. It is good that your kid reads e-books and I hope she continues to enjoy reading. Although for me, personally, I'd prefer it if my future kid would read actual books.

How old is your daughter, by the way, jazel? I think, if she is in that very young stage still, where she can't fully understand how to take care of that gadget, it's most likely that it will not be operational at the soonest. kids are kids and they are so curious and excited of using those types of gadgets.

She is 7 SimplyD and she can already read and for her age she is quite "matured" she asked for that because she loves to read and i downloaded these bunch of ebooks which she loves to read. Since laptop is not that portable for her, we opted for that tablet.. she admitted she dropped it accidentally that must have caused the port of the charger to dis align. She actually know the money's worth, we do budgeting with her around..so she knows why we does it and she knows how much i get from my salary and her dad as well

Hi jazel_juan, I hate to say it, but the warranty might not cover it if it has been dropped.

I also bought a cheap tablet. I think it's been with me for like months now. 2 weeks, that's so fast. There was one time when the tablet didn't function well so I just turned it off and then tried to on it the next day. Good thing it worked again. It's also a good thing that you still have a warranty, at least you can still have that fixed. Maybe you can also try telling your child to be more careful with her things next time.

Yeah you've made the right decision. It's good that you've set some rules. Just tell her to be careful in using the tablet. Even though it's cheaper than the real ones, still its cost is kinda big.

They are very expensive. My hubby bought one from China and it never arrived. He lost all of his money. It was awful. You must have a lot of money to afford 3,000.00 my mum and dad do not even spend that amount on me. I think you are a bit silly spending that amount if you cannot afford it. If she is used to breaking things you should not spend the money and tell her to take more care of things. You spend a lot of money on her and she breaks it. That's not fair.

Actually my friend she did not break it, she dropped it accidentally but it did not break, the port where we put the charge is a bit loose so it is not charging but other than that it is working fine. Well, i did not buy it in China lol i purchased it online through Ebay and it arrived on time. She uses it for playing as well as for reading that is why we know it is not a waste of money.. :) plus we love her so it is ok for us to spend for her..

Okay, I'm convinced I have the exact same gadget as your daughter. Got mine for a little bit less (Php2500) and it has proven to be useful. However, when I bought it I knew the quality was not so good that's why I have to use it with utmost care. I knew if I dropped it even once it may be broken for good. Therefore, it is not something I would entrust to a 7-year-old if I were a mother. However, I respect your decision to buy her the tablet as you say she uses it for reading. These tablets are mostly produced in China and people call them fakes but they are just another (not famous and cheap)brand of tablet PCs. If they were big and had the Apple logo at the back then I'd say they're fakes or imitations. But they're not. Just a not famous brand of tablet PC that can actually be useful for some, like me, and your daughter (if only it didn't break.) I am not a parent so maybe it's easy for me to say that i won't buy my future kids this and that, but I guess when I have children my attitude might change and I might give in.

Actually it didn't break lol..she dropped it but it didnt break thank God there is hope for it..anyways the hole there that port where you plug in the charger got loose and the charger wont fit..that rubber side got loose Yeah i am not usually the one who give in but i really found this one useful for her..so i gave in..or else i would have just purchased her crayons, oil pastel and lots of drawing books for her ( which is my first option on her bday! she is good at drawing) but hubby said its her 7th bday.. so i gave in..

I feel for you. Sometimes we are happy to buy gifts for our children, unfortunately usually the gifts will not last for a long time. So I wonder whether we shouldn't buy so expensive toys for young children since they can break it in a short time. And actually young children feel happy to play simple things or even play with you. I love China

hello jazel, Oh so bad my dear. What happened? It's just two weeks and I am sure it is still under warranty. Go back to the store and have it checked or demand for any replacement. I wish it will be replaced or fixed then. Happy Birthday and she has same birthday with my youngest son...October 20

I am more particular of the quality rather than the price. 3000 worth of tablet is something that i wouldn't risk buying at all as i know it's China-imitation and the price isn't even worth it at all. I consider it a waste of money. Everything that i have bought for my son are all still working except those that were given to him as a present. Cheap toys usually don't last a day to him, but the expensive ones are still working up to this day. Two of his gameboys and a playstation got destroyed by flood three years ago.

Quality matters right? but as for the tablet, that is all we could afford for her..and she knows she is lucky we even got her that because she still have two more brothers for us to expense with. Well it maybe cheap but the OS is quite good actually, even the pixels she just dropped it accidentally that's why.

hello, Actually, your daughter wont know if it is expensive or not it means it is not an issue to her. So, she will still be thankful to you and as a mom you are a nice mother because you give her what she like in her birthday. Well, I am not a mother yet but I have a little brother and he also demands from some toys that will not take longer to him. As I can remember the longest day that his toy long is almost 5 days. haha that is why my mom never buy expensive one.

Believe me my friend, she knows the difference of expensive or not expensive.. we often laugh at home because some relatives take her for granted because she is young..but she knows the money's worth. She is one who do knows when we can buy or when we cannot buy..she admitted she dropped the tablet by accident.

When my son was alittle child he used to be very curious about the toys, so most of the time he opened the robots, and cars to see what was inside, and then destroy them, he was very active and always wanted to something else to the toys beside to play, so his toys never last a lot.
