My husband and I have good friends that are Jewish...we know better than to even bring up the name Mel Gibson in their presence unless we want to ignite some major passion on what a scum bag he is. It doesn't matter what he is in or if he's even come as close as financing a project they won't go near it. After his treatment of his wife, ex-wife, and the antisemitic comments I have to say I feel the same way, though I am a little hypocritical because if one of his previous movies is on tv I'd probably watch it.
I realize we all like some actors and don't like others based on their acting...my question is more about if their personal actions in their real life affect your decision to go see them on the big screen.

I have not let the actions of one particular actor or actress dictate whehter I watch a movie or not. It is not one person that makes a movie good. many time I like the other actors or the writer or director and that overcomes the pitfalls of some person I think is scum.

I don't usually follow an actor on a personal level but it was hard not to hear about that Mel Gibson stuff. It did change the way I thought about him. I'm not sure that it will effect me watching his movies. I am not going to run out to the theaters in support though. I will probably wait for it to come out on TV before I watch it.

many times it does affect what i watch. i used to love Morgan Freeman until i found out about his taking up with his step daughter that he raised so even though hes a wonderful actor, i feel like i dont want to be a contributer to his pay check. other then that i cant think of any more. well maybe angelina jolie. i dont have much respect or liking of her since what she done to jennifer aniston.

Woody Allen did the same thing. He married one of his wives adopted or foster daughters. I can't help thinking that I cannot help support a creep.

For me it affect totally, after learning Morgan Freeman is a pedophile (his adopted grand daughter seems preatty terrified in the red carpet in close pictures), Rob Lower slept with a 17 year underage girl, Mel Gibson beat women...I really don't want to see them. I will never go to a theather to see them also, like I won't give one cent to those type of people.
I never listened to Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez also after learning they skin Animals alive, they own fur enterprises so it's the same thing: they are responsible.

It should affect me because one of the reasons I would like to watch a film is the acting of the actors and some of their personalities can be reflected while they are acting. Therefore, whenever the movie has the actor that I like, I will probably go and watch it.

I don't even read about stars and their personal life. For me, it only matters how they act, not what they do. I don't think that if they do something bad it will change the way I think about how they act, or about the quality of the movies they are in.

oh i think it has an affect to my movie choices. sometimes when a movie is great and well i do not like the actor, i might even not watch the movie because of the actor.. and well i often fall into the same issue when i like an actor and then the movie is not as expected...

I feel that way about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. I have no interest in any of their movies and don't see any of them. Sure, it makes for a good story that they adopted kids together and had some of their own. But he was married and they had an affair when they made their movie together. It makes my stomach sick to think about how that goes unnoticed nowadays. It's great they help build orphanages, but someday when the kids say, how did you meet? They'll have to admit they had an affair. Great morals there.

I refuse to see any George Clooney films save one. I saw Micheal Clayton. It took me 13 years to even try this film. It was ok , but I will not see any more. Why? He insulted my guy David Caruso back in 1995 and even though david forgave him I will never . As for Mel Gibson , I'm Jewish And I have no time for idiots so I haven't seen And Mel Gibson films since Braveheart. My favorite of his was Lethal Weapon I.this ban is so easy to keep up , the same with Clooney, because the films they make now I wouldn't see even if they weren't in them!

I have great distaste for George Clooney for what he said about Charlton Heston. When it was announced Heston had Alhzeimer's Clooney said he got what he deserved because he supported the NRA. As the daughter of a mother who has dementia, there is no call for that. It was a horrific thing to say and I haven't seen any of his movies since.

As a jewish person, I tell you I don't care much. if he was in some anti-semitic cult or doing something very drastic, maybe it would change my mind. but if I have to think about the past or the mistakes of an artist every time I see a movie or listening to a song, I wouldn't enjoy it. you can see (almost) in any actor or a singer something bad, if you think about it.

I don't really keep up with celebrities and their life, so I don't know much about it. Saying that, yes, their personal life do affect my liking factor of their movies. That is not to say I will completely stop watching their movies if I don't like an actor. I may boycott it by not going to the movie hall, but if the reviews are good, I'd watch it on TV if it comes out.

I really don't think the real life actions of an actore would influence me, it's their own life really, i don't care how they spend it, but the appearence and apparel of some actors, even if they might be good as actors make me not watch a movie. For example I never liked Tom Cruise, I just don't, not the way he looks, not anything, so I never could watch a full movie he acted in, not even Mission Impossible, any of them. People tell me those are good movies to watch..well I can't watch them, I don't have the patience.

Not on a regular mistake, but I think if they countered my own ethics, or were criminals, I could not enjoy watching the movie, or show.

To be honest I wouldn't bother with that. The things listed in this thread and maybe a few more are the things known. There are so many unknown things that stars do that if you knew them all you might not watch a movie or listen to a song ever again.. I mean really..
That's why I try to avoid linking personalities to artists.. Maybe looks because it's a simple direct liking perception. But I'm not about to shut any kind of entertainment off just because show biz turns people in it immoral these days.
