Taking supplements have become a common thing for most people. The doctors on the other hand continue to encourage people to take those supplements and minerals even when they really understand that we only need to eat a well balanced diet. Mineral are needed in very small amount and eating a proper diet will guaranteeyou enough of it. It really sad that most people continue consuming these minerals and supplements without knowing the life long consequences especially when it comes to fat soluble vitamins. These are not easily eliminated in the body and can easily lead to toxic level. I never understand why do people result to taking supplements rather than eating a well balanced diet.

i still take supplements.. i believe that prevention is better than cure.. it's better to spend a little amount buying supplements than spending a large amount for hospitalization or operations.. in my point of view, a balanced diet is good but not enough.. like for example, antioxidants helps in our cell regeneration by renewing or removing the free radicals that went inside our bodies.. like for stress, smoke, dust, we cannot avoid them coming in our bodies.. and these antioxidants helps us in maintaining healthy cells.. balanced diet, regular exercise and supplements are the best tandem for me.. =)

It is ok if you feel that taking supplements works for you but still remember these supplements have not been there for a long time and people never used to have so many these problems that we are experiencing today. The reality is our lifestyle which have changed drastically have contributed to some of the illness. There are many foods that contains antioxidants example wound be cranberries, blackberries and all other type of berries, dark leafy vegetables also do contains high level of antioxidants as well as carrots. We already have our natural antioxidants like Glutathione and Catalase and only requires a slight boost from healty and balanced dieting. If we eat right and well balanced diet, there is no need of supplements. Inface, we only need around 5 servings of fruit and vegetables per day and we are fully equipped with the antioxidants without worrying of any side effects.

If you read my article, I said with use of proper diet not without use of proper diet, if you know you cannot eat proper diet then I have no problem with you taking supplements but I would prefer you getting it from natural food if you can. Iam residing in Philippines. What are the herbal products you are using anyway?

HI MASHNN my friend, i do prefer balance diet and not supplements.......its better to have some good food....i prefer having veg food and not non-veg.......you can get more minerals in veg food only and as supplements you can eat dry-fruits or fruits after the meal.....and if you know about the food you are eating then no need to take supplements because you know nutritional values of food you are consuming......

That right, I just do not know why people chose to go the supplemental way instead of healthy diet.

It is better to have a well balanced diet but it can be hard for some people to maintain that. Most of the people I know that take supplements are trying to build muscle mass or are at risk...like one that is pregnant. I have read that supplements are not easily absorbed sometimes. Orange juice helps with that. I also read that what is not used by the body just goes to waste anyway. Solid or liquid supplements make a difference too. I was reading once that they have started to make personalized vitamins for people. They do a blood test and personalize a liquid based on the needs of a person. I think the best way is the food though. I have never really been able to tell a difference in the way I feel when I was taking vitamins before. Some people say they do though.

With good reason is acceptable to take supplement. My concern is for those who just take vitamins because others are doing it without having to take time and weigh the benefits and risks of taking it.

Mashnn Till about a few years ago I was not giving importance to taking vitamins and minerals. However since becoming 60 as advised by doctors I do take vitamins and minerals reqularly besides other medicines and proper food. For young people normally upto 50 there should not be any need for extra vitamins. However nowadays doctors do prescribe simple B vitamin tablets for all.

supplements - nowadayas, many people are so busy, they have no enough time for fulfil their vitamin and mineral needs, so they consume many supplements for this.
but they consume it daily.
i think it will give a bad impact to their body, too much supplements, absolutely destruct their healthy.
they don't know tht too much taking supplements can easily lead the toxic level in their body.
i do not taking any supplements for my body,i prefer having a well balanced diet than using any supplements. i think it is more effective and has no bad effect than using supplements. using supplement okay, but not for long enough, too much use supplements will give a bad impact to our body, like what you have said, when it comes to fat soluble vitamins. it will stay in our body and easily lead to toxic level. It is not easily to eliminite in our body. at last, our body will get the impact from this, especially for our liver, this organ will get the biggest impact from using too much supplements. so, i think it is better for having a well balanced diet than consume too much supplements. cheers.

We are in the same boat. I always believe natural is better than artificial and is good to avoid artificial things as much as we can.

Well, it is True that a lot of times people have been known to overdo it when it comes to some of the supplements that they think they need. Most of the time they are doing all of this without their Doctors knowing about it, and usually continue even if their doctor tells them to STOP. Personally I have always been one for things like Echinachea when I am getting a cold, or have a cold, and then someone else told me about Magnesium on here. Wondering if since Doctors like to prescribe Potassium pills whether the ones in the Vitamin healthfood stores might actually be just as good or better.

I used to take supplements until I read that they did not do any good unless you had a deficiency that a doctor should check. A well balanced diet can take care of all of our daily needs. We must eat enough veggies and fresh fruit everyday if we want to have the vitamins and minerals we need.

That definitely true, a good example is vitamin C, we only need around 70mg to 100mg vitamin C in a day. I cannot get it why people take 500mg to 100mg. It simply means the rest is flushed out in the body as waste yet you use money to buy it.

A well balanced diet is all that is sufficient for a healthy body. I never use any supplements unless and until I become physically ill like fever, loose motion etc.

I am of the view that we should eat our normal diet, have regular exercises and that must be sufficient besides vitamins and minerals as prescribed by our doctor should be taken. good day.

That is my point too unless there is a deficiency that need to be corrected. Otherwise, eating well balanced diet is the key to ensure that we get the required mineral. Natural foods are always better.

Same to me. I have not and I don't plan to do it unless I have a deficiency. I believe a well balanced diet can do much better than supplements.

Both of the ways are best thing to do. We need to eat in a balance diet and some supplements, since not all we eat absorbs our body. Some of the nutrients or minerals are excreted out from our systems.

I would prefer having a well balanced diet instead of having supplements. Supplements are needed when a person is having too much of a problem, or when has a vitamin deficiency otherwise, and urgently needs them. We need to have more fruits and vegetables otherwise.
