Where do you eat your breakfast?

United States

They were talking on The Chew about how people spend less than 5 minutes eating breakfast. And while we cram down our breakfast we usually do it standing up. One of the interesting ones that got me was that 20 some percent of people eat breakfast in the bathroom of all places. Though in a way I can kinda see it if you have to curly your hair you have a free hand to eat if needed *LOL* Where does your family eat their breakfast and do you spend more than 5 minutes eating?

I don't eat breakfast all the time, and never with family. When I do eat breakfast it's usually something like a snack and it takes me about five minutes to eat it. Most of the time it's either in front of the computer or walking towards the computer or bathroom. When I have to be up early to work early I grab me something small to eat and then head towards the computer before or after showering.

I will admit I'm guilty of eating in front of the pc. However sometimes that's just because it's the only chair free in my house.

We have that problem too. If we had a mud room or a larger kitchen/dining room to put things like coats and mail ect our table could be relativly cleared. I hope your cramping did not last long. We don't make bacon much around here as I'd have t make 2lbs of it as it would disappear as fast as I'd make it. I prefer no one eat in bed, hubby does which I don't like cause then he doesn't get rid of his plates or trash.

This morning I made myself some bacon and brewed coffee and took it back to bed with me to eat. I woke up with cramps though and was hoping the coffee would offset them, also ate a banana. Here there aren't many free chairs either, or if all the chairs are free there's no table space! lol.

We eat at the table, all meals. I cannot speak for when I am at work, however. Yes, it takes me more than five minutes to eat. Hubby usually does not eat breakfast but often will have a cup of coffee while I eat. No way would I eat in the bathroom. I will have coffee at the computer, though.

I've been working on getting everyone to eat at the table period. We are living room eaters and use the table as a dumping ground.... ie I wish we had a mud room or a bigger house cause that's where everything seems to end up. And I'm tired of finding dishes everywhere and no one puts them in the sink.

hi 3SnuggleBunnies we retirees are woke at 6 am so we are sure to be down there at 7 am.so we go down and sit for about twenty minutes til one of the kitchen crew brings us coffee and orange juice. then we wait another twenty minutes, sloppy oatmeal is served, ten minutes later toast and an egg or a large pancake. so by the time I get back to my room its nearly 8 am . I guess I can say we retirees spend some time seated in eating. and sitting there half asleep mostly. lol

I remember people sleeping in the dining room when I would visit with my mother in the nursing home. I think some weren't interested or were on enough meds they couldn't stay awake IMO.

LOL Hatley, you are funny, but the truth is the truth... talking about eating slow... In my response I wasn't really speaking about getting served in portions...like that anyway... I guess napping between your oatmeal and eggs can be little annoying... LOL...

Hi snuggleBunnies,.With everyone being in a hurry these day I am not surprised of the survey...It does seem a little weird to hear about eating in the bathroon ...but to each his own.. I normally eat in my lounge chair relaxing...and it certainly does take me more than 5 minutes...I have learn that eating slower is better for the digestion system and you don't seem want seconds. \

That is true eating slower is better for digestion and you feel fuller in that time than when you wolf your food down. They say it takes 20 minutes for us to feel full.

We all eat breakfast together at the kitchen table. Most of us take 10-20 minutes to complete breakfast. Eating slower is better for your health plus it is a good time to go over who is doing what, who needs to be picked up and when everyone will be home for dinner. Like I said, most of us. The teenagers (boys) seem to inhale anything put down in front of them. The plate is empty before I get mine to the table. Looking forward to when this faze is over and they settle down again like they did when they were younger. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Enjoy!

eating slow and chew well is good for health, I agree. same here we talk things like that in the morning when everybody's having their meal. hm, well, if you need more time, I wonder what kind of breakfast you usually have?

It depends upon the day and what mood I am in to cook or not. There are a variety of things that we have from time to time for breakfast. Like I said before...since I do all the cooking it can be difficult to get to the table the same time as everyone else...since I serve them all first so it is a hot meal they are getting. Cereal is always available but sometimes we have: Waffles Oatmeal (Not instant) Pancakes Bacon and eggs (with or without hash browns) Omelets Potato pancakes Egg and potato frittata Farina Cream of Wheat Toast There is more that that should give you the picture. Have a great day!

Hello, I eat my breakfast at home every morning because I don't have time to go out and eat at fast food chains because I will be late for school. And also, I love my mother's cooked meals so that is why.

I get up at 4am and I usually don't have breakfast cause it's too early but I do have coffee and some cookies to go with. I sit at the computer and drink my coffee and eat my cookies. If we do have a real breakfast on the weekends we eat it in the living room watching TV. Our Dining room table gets used once every 2 years when my mom visits.

I bring a cup of coffee where my computer is. Then, later in the morning, I go downstairs and make a sandwich or some bread and jam. That I either eat in the dining room or in the kitchen standing.

I honestly can say that I don't typically eat breakfast because I have a really hard time eating first thing in the morning when I wake up. My husband doesn't eat breakfast either. However, both of our children do eat breakfast. Kathryn chooses to have her breakfast at school in the mornings during the school year and she has about 15 minutes to eat in the morning before the last bell but after her bus gets to the school. Paul will sit in the living room with a bowl of cereal in the mornings and it typically takes him about 30-45 minutes to eat his breakfast.

my famliies always have breakfast in living room, and spend more than 15 minutes. if we eat too fast,it is not conducive to digest and bad for stomach.

Hahah.... I heard sing a song in bathroom but still I not heard eat the breakfast in bathroom. After reading your discussion I know the people eat the breakfast in bathroom also how strange. I have no such danger habit. I eat my breakfast in my bedroom or in kitchen.

well I don't really know about my parents and my brothers. I only have breakfast only when I want to. usually I just skipped it. my parents they may do it as they go to work early in the morning so I guess they do or not? hm, but when it;s holiday, my family and I do have breakfast. we usually do it in dining table. hmmm.. well yeah way more than 5 minutes. we spend our time and make some "quality time" in the dining table when we breakfast. we talk about things. general things that can make our mood boost up. sometimes we speak about the solution about our problem since the problem itself was told in the night before, dinner time. well, generally that;s it.

There are times that we eat when we want during breakfast.. Whoever gets up first gets to eat breakfast first.. but there are times that we usually wake up each other and wait for each other before having breakfast (happens during weekends.) We eat breakfast at the table but we are really quiet I think we are still sleepy.. LOL!

Breakfast is like a ritus for me something to enjoy and taste just before starting the stressy day. So I have breakfast seated with a nice italian coffee "ristretto" a warm croissant, everyday the same taking my time which is more than 5 minutes.

I'm not sure where some of my family eat theirs as I'm not awake until after them, but most eat in the kitchen, and they take longer than 5 minutes. I probably take slightly longer depending on what I'm eating. I never eat standing up, I'm not in that kind of hurry. But thats not good for digestion I presume.

Since I have to catch the bus for woRK, I usually buy the fast food and eat them on the bus. So I can't choose something that is oily or smelly or other passengers would get upset...Sometimes I could also eat the Oreo in front of the computer during working... No matter how disturbing it seems like, I now form the habit of having breakfast now, this is good.
