Is it possible to be addicted to mylotting??

I just happened to notice the time. I have been sitting here on mylot for many hours responding to the various discussions that I am presently involved in. This made the thought that I could be becoming addicted to mylotting. I do spend a lot of time here, so much so, in fact that it has reached the point of not getting done the things that I should be doing. Is it an addiction, procrastination (cause I really don't want to go wash them dishes and do laundry today), or just poor time management? What do you think?

Yes, Mylot is addicting in a good way. At least you are having fun and making money at the same time. When I first started here I was here for 16 plus hours a day... but now I just come when I want to. I still spend a few hours a day but nothing like before.

@PQ Hello my friend good to see you. I love it here. Of course this site is perfect for me as I do so love to chat. Oh my! I was here for about that yesterday. Didn't get to bed till about 7:00 AM. I was on somewhere close to 16 hours (maybe longer than that). I can't do that too many days. I am generally up rather late at night, but that is late even for me.

I'm glued in front of the computer responding to different topics and starting a new one for several hours. I'm a newbie, this is my third day here in mylot. I registered last week but didn't post. But when i started participating in mylot discussions two days ago, some things that should be done were left untouched. I'm trying to manage my time now.

@woolscupiee I so understand where you are coming from. I am not exactly new to mylot, but I had been gone for a while. I am having to put my priorities back in order. With no particular schedule for me to have to stick to right now, I can shuffle things around and tend to do so until the wee hours of the morning (when most of the people in the discussions I participate in have gone to bed for the night).

I think it is possible to get addicted to mylotting. It is fun, entertaining, and rewarding! I would know, because I was once addicted myself. (In fact, I distinctly remember another discussion on this) In your case, I think it could be all three: addiction, procrastination, and poor time management. However, it could be a short term obsession. If you think you are seriously addicted, try going on mylot a little each day and make it part of your routine instead.

It certainly isn't a bad thing (being social while earning a little extra money) but I don't doubt you have other things to do also! Yeah, I know what you mean, especially if you have myLot email notifications set and you see one from myLot while checking your email...it can lead to time mysteriously disappearing! Haha well, I hope you can bring it under control soon!

@snam Hi ya. lol I have to admit, I agree with you. I don't seriously think I am addicted. It could be an obsession. I do feel the need to check in on a daily basis. I think that some days, time just gets away from me. I am sure it has happened to a lot of people. You get online to check emails, or look up something real quick, and swoosh, you look up and several hours have gone by.

@snam I am pretty pleased with myself. I made myself take care of the household business and chores before I opened my email today. It is simply amazing how those hours go by.

I think you are right, it is possible to become addicted to mylotting. The question is, is it such a bad thing? I go through spells with mylot. I will write for days straight, for hours at a time, and then I will go through a period where I just run out of stuff to talk about or to repsond to, or I get wrapped up in life again and the computer disappears from my nightly routine somehow. I love to mylot. I think it is because I love to write, not to mention the opportunity to earn money for doing it!

@cjfoust we shall have to form a support group, but in it we shall encourage folks to become addicted. I too, love to write (and talk), so this is a good place for me to come.

I think it's both. You enjoy being on mylott, so you continue to come right back to the computer instead of doing your laundry, dishes or making your bed, etc. I do the same thing. I eventually stop when I want to and get a few things done, but I am sure I am addicted to mylot.

@chrystaltears I agree. I think I will have to adjust my schedule. I see that most of the people I talk to here come on later. Maybe, I could force myself to do my housewife duties and get it all done before all my friends get online. I haven't gotten so "addicted" that I don't leave the computer at all, yet, so I think I am doing alright. lol

I recently came back to this site.I haven't used it for about two years.Came back a couple days ago.It does pass alot of time when I answer discussions.I usually take a break because I have other things to attend to here.I have to let my dog out clean my house then,I usually come back on again.I see it can be an addiction. The last time I used to use this site I spent hours at a time on it.

@Java Welcome back! It is just way to easy to lose track of time on here, but I do so love the friendships and discussions. If a few little things get put off around the house once in a while, well, no one is being hurt by that. I am trying to be sure to get the necessary things taken care of before I even boot up the computer though as I know myself well enough to know that once I log on, everything else will be on hold for many hours. I am a chronic insomniac, so I really don't have a regular set schedule right now.

@java I am sorry you are having trouble sleeping and you have problems that are keeping you awake in worry. I hope that these problems get resolved quickly, as I certainly know firs hand what havic lack of sleep reeks on the body, mind, and spirit.

I think that it is possible to be addicted to everything if you find that you can't go without it and you get withdrawal symptoms when you try to do so. You should be careful about getting addicted to the internet because it can often mean that you don't get to do everything that you need to in your day because it is far too easy to let the time run away with you without even realising it. I spend a lot of time on MyLot, and I think that it is a wonderful place to talk to people who are interested in the same things that you are, but I wouldn't say that I was addicted at all.

@Gemma It is incredibly easy to let those pesky household chores go for "just a little while". Problem is, when, like you say, I let the "just a little while" turn into too many hours and things don't get done around the house. I love to meet and talk to new people. It is wonderful to find people who share my interests and will respect my point of view.

This shows that mylot has given you satisfaction. When you are satisfied about something you will be back to it, you never want to leave it. I disagree with the term 'addiction" as this word bears negative connotation.

@yanzalong Hello and welcome to our discussion. I see your point about the negative connotation and did not mean for it to sound like a bad thing. However, it is a bad thing if it continues to draw me back here for such a long time and I continue to ignore other things.

Mylotting is really addictive.
I agree there were times that I am hooked with having inter-action with friends here that I cannot stand and leave the site.
So, I ended up cramming to finish undone things before the sunset (lols)
but it doesn't happen everyday anyway.

@jaiho It happens to me too my friend, except I don't really have to cram things in before sunset. I don't sleep normal hours and the fact that I do not have to get up at a certain time (on most days)gives me the freedom to do things as I get around to them. I say that if mylot is an addiction, well so be it. There are a lot worse things that I could be addicted to!

I used to be so addicted to this site because I was earning and I gained some friends here. Also, the topics here are very interesting and i am able to learn different things from different culture. However, when I found a new job, I have to leave this site temporarily but I hope I will be able to post again like what I used to do.

@junmae I haven't made much money here, but that is cool, as it is not my goal. I think it is a great way to communicate and learn from others. We shall look forward to reading more from you.

Very possible and I had been but thankfully I'm healed. I realized I had to be here everyday so I forced my self to stay away for a long while so now I'm back and good hopefully. But it can preatty much be addictive in a way that we might be doing our daily routine and then out of nowhere to prepare a new discussion so that's not healthy. I think many discussion type sites can be addictive, it's like talking, we need to do it everyday.

@katie You are right. In my off line world, there are very few people I converse with. In General, there is my husband and my dad on a daily basis. I love these two gentlemen dearly, but find that they don't always listen to me. On here, I know that other people are paying attention, because I get responses from them.

It is some much lack of time management and some much addiction. You should manage of time as it will help you as it is starting but this will bring you a great trouble tomorow.I am a bit addicted but because of time management i could do my all works

@Jatada I am working on the time management aspect. I have done well today. The chores that needed attention have been done. I even left the house to take care of business this morning instead of just making the phone calls or putting it off until tomorrow.

I don't think you're addicted. You can't really be addicted to a website. It's more of that you're addicted to what the website offers. You must like conversating online and so you chose to do it a lot. Mylot is pretty cool but it's not really addicting. It wouldn't really fit the definition entirely.

@ajalitus I suppose you are right. I do love to talk. I enjoy "meeting" new people and having discussions with them. It could classify as an addiction. An addiction is the "state of being enslaved to a habit or practice" or "a persistent, compulsive dependance on a behavior" It doesn't really matter. I enjoy being here, except when I encounter people who refuse to accept the views of others and show respect for others. Thankfully, I have encountered but just a few of those types.

Well, it is quite possible and there are a lot of people who continue to be quite active here each day that even if they are not addicted per sey, as this is the only thing that they think about, it is a Great place to be and they enjoy having the time to come here and spend with friends talking about life and sharing their knowledge and time. Addiction, I doubt it, but you never know.

I definitely do think that it's possible to be addicted to mylot. I certainly love spending time on mylot, and I definitely don't think that I'm the only one. It's a nice place to be, in my opinion, which is why I love spending time on mylot.

@tipay My husband says I am addicted to arguing. I disagree. I don't think I argue. I just debate. If I should make any money, that's good, but in all honesty, I am here to "talk". I look forward to seeing you around here.

@BLTlife I think that the dirty dishes and laundry are consequences enough. I also think that since no one else is suffering from my neglect to the chores, that it is probably not reached the point of serious addiction.

@nyang Me too. I got online to check my email so I could get the song list for the church bulletin tomorrow That was sometime this morning, but I got sidetracked by the emails from mylot. I logged onto here, and before I realized it,it was after 8:00 PM and I hadn't even opened the email I started out looking for. I did get the bulletins done, but immediately had to log back onto mylot.
My poor husband used to feel neglected, but then he discovered craigslist, so he has his own website addiction now.

It is addictive, it is a game of chase the cents into the dollars. I'm new here after a long absence so I do not know yet if it is a waste of time as far as the money is concerned.
