Good day to all. We don't have internet in the office till Wednesday as per our IT department due to this internet doomsday that they have said. The IT said that our computer might get virus and infected if we open the net and browse any sites. So far, no net here, we can't check mails that we need here in work and anything that has net needed. Just wondering if this is true, will mylot get affected and shut down for awhile. Will my phone be infected too cause I am using it write now in mylotting.?

Owh, i just found out about this. So it affects every single internet user around the world or just 570,000 internet user around the world from what i've read. It happens only tomorrow and will be okay on the 10th? I would like to know more about this though.Anyone have any idea?

There are only an estimated 300,000 computers that will be affected. They just won't be able to see some websites when the servers to which they have been directed by DNS-Changer are switched off. 300,000 is a very tiny proportion of all the computers using the Internet!

If your IT department really has said that then they are either lying or they really don't know what they are talking about. There is ABSOLUTELY no more danger today or for the next few days than there is any other day of getting a virus! Provided that your computers aren't already infected with the DNS-Changer virus (and surely your IT department would know if they were and would have cleaned them!), Monday will be like any other day - everything will work fine. No, your phone will NOT be 'infected' and MyLot will NOT be down!

I just posted a similar response on another discussion by this member. They obviously don't understand about the DNS Changer. An IT that didn't do the check isn't much of an IT.

It obviously didn't happen to most of us here. We are all here now so I bet no virus really stuck our pc's. Those were just false information from your IT, you should change them... Our IT was here yesterday and he never mentioned anything like that.

Hi, Ardoy0731, I was unaware about this "internet doomsday". Thanks for informing me but it's too late I've been working in internet the whole day and the day has just finished in my time zone. Apparently the IT guys in my work were unaware too because our internet was unusually good today. It seems that the doomsday is the next joke after the Mayan "prediction" of the end of the world.

Hello I don't think anything like that will happen.. I came to know about this thing recently and that also from mylot.. After that I tried to found out about it from internet, and also got helpful links form friends here. If our DNS settings hasn't been affected by it, than there is no problem in surfing. My connection's DNS setting is just fine so no problem for me. and I think its same for you too.

I'm afraid your IT department is misinformed... the "internet doomsday" scare will only affect computers that are currently infected with the DNS changer virus. The virus changed the way those computers connect to the internet so they were being routed through the wrong domain name servers. Thousands of people whose computers were infected are supposed to be unable to connect to the internet because the FBI is going to be cutting the servers they were running to counteract the DNS change. I'm very surprised that your IT department hasn't run the check to make sure that the company's machines weren't affected by it! It's so simple to do. You just need to visit a website and it will tell you if the computer is looking up DNS settings the right way. http://www.dcwg.org/?page_id=381

I heard about this so called "internet doom day". Yet, I don't believe it.No one virus made by children can take down the entire internet. You need to know what you are doing to a level that I"m not even sure that the CIA (or however encharge of it) can do it.
