I just wonder if religion really does matter in a person's life. A lot of spiritual teachers were saying that religion is not really that necessary to one's life. I do not know but some are encouraging others to join them in their religion. And I hear a variety of religions, too. I do not understand. What is really the meaning of religion and is it really important to our lives?

For me religion is important, but only for myself. I am not willing to speak a lot about it with other people. Usually such discussions are not opened very often, just because people may reach the place where they disagree with the others and it leads to conflicts.
If I have to say it directly believing in God is my safe world. Where I may pray and believe someone hears me. It is where someone is always interested in what I say, someone who really cares.
For me religions are important for the heart. Too bad some of them are connected with killing. Big minds in the world say that having so many religions in the world is a problem for us, because it causes deaths having so many differences. Well I don't believe so. It's all because some people want to rule the others. I think that we all must be open minded and accept everyone else the way he is.

You are so right about people using religion to feed their greed of having power over the others.
Last night we had an explosion on our airport in a bus with 40 people from Israel.
They say it's terrorist act. I don't want to believe it, but I saw pictures of white boy with baseball hat and sunglasses walking around in the airport before the tourists enter the bus. Our investigators found out this person was with fake documents. But it looks so much as a person who is not from Israel.
Sorry for connecting both topics, just this news is so fresh for me, I connected it at the moment when I read this discussion.
Since a very long time I know that politics and religion are bad topics for here. Some people just cross the lines.

I agree so much with you that it is a personal thing and you never never have to enter into arguments or conflicts that make you uncomfortable. I say uncomfortable because that is how we feel before we ourselves get upset, angry or irritated. I never want to belittle myself and hold God in to high regard to make that subject one of discontentment.
That being said, I also think we can express what we believe, because we have the right to express. Some even believe it is their duty to preach. Certainly, it may be our desire to share our joy.
I am not sure it is religion (if we define religion as some kind of social worship) that connect it to killing but people using religion to serve their selfish appetite. There can be a false religion though if it teaches such things. The bible does speak of such things.
In online communication people can be argumentative with topics like politics and religion but I look at that as a inability to communicate how they feel?

Our basic needs have to be in place. Try going without food and sleep for a while and see what happens to you. We are also social beings. Staying alone for long periods of time without any contact with others will not have positive results for us. As adults we may seek to have some intimacy. Our spiritual needs are important too.
Happy are those that are aware of their spiritual needs.
This is not saying you can not be happy if you are not aware of all your needs just that is good to be aware.
I am a person that does separate the two words religion and spirituality, though for many it is closing related. The latter is a significant statement for me.

Hi Bluedoll! I see that for you spirituality does matters much than religion. So, I must consider spirituality more than I do with religion.

For me, religion is a set of organized views, morals and teachings aimed to guide those who "seek for answers". There are some religion who evangelize or encourage other people to join them because they claim to be the "only path to salvation". I've never been fond of such schemes where they teach you that God is a separate entity like a man who lives in the sky and sees everything you do and would give you divine punishment if you do something bad..... "BUT HE LOVES YOU OTHERWISE" :)) which i find ironic.
In my opinion, God is what we have inside us. All the teachings of different kinds of religion will be for nothing if we do not realize that we are all individuated experiences of "God". Religion is sometimes a tool to use the public, but in some cases it could also be a tool to encourage people to do good, it's all a matter of how the religious leaders put it or deliver "God's message" to the public.
I guess what is important is that we value and respect every living creature in this planet and with that we learn how to think, feel and look within ourselves to find the answers we seek in our life. :)

What a great explanation, thanks for sharing your point of view. I totally agree with you on that. What is important is your faith in God, some people use religion to impose their own will not God's will. Now, we also need to be smart when to question a spiritual leader's actions. Some religion appear cult-like because whatever their leader say they follow. It will help a lot if you read the bible yourself, that way you can reflect on God's teaching first hand.

Hello Keshlois,
I don't think religion is that important. We don't have to be a believer to be good. All religions teaches us the same thing, only the rituals and practices vary.
If you are compassionate, humane, then there is no need of religion, you don't need to be taught anything. In today's world, religions are causing all the disputes.Everyone wants to spread their religion, their way of life, their practices, their culture. They consider their religion superior to all other's.Religions were made for uniting people. But now they are uniting less people and dividing more.
Religion is not important, whats important is Humanism.

Some people who are traditional, believe that religion is a very essential to deal with. As we progresses into modern era, the notions about religion had changed its importance. I remembered my religion teacher, she informed us that religion is tested through our faith, practicing the doctrines. Religion will guide us to be a better person, refraining from committing mistakes through our actions.

Talk about the meaning of religious beliefs in God and about God's power.
For people who believe religion is a way of life, to become a human being a certain character and virtuous.
There is not any one religion, which teaches about the crime.
Religion is important for my life.

For me, you need a religion for the guidance, for needing help if you need someone that could listen, someone to call to if your down. Maybe religion can make you a better person if you are really devoted on it.
