You can start in finding a good topic, then go for the primary and secondary details. Check the other web site, technical writing as a key word.

Since it is fiction, you will need a good imagination. I wold think of what you dream about at night. The mind can imagine weird things when unencumbered by the reality of life, so the paths you have traveled, the places where you have been, and even the incidents in your life are put in a semi-logical order. Also anything you did or watched in your life. Yu can use these as vehicles for a story. You must not do an exact copy of your life. One of the exercises I did from my fiction writing book was to go to the food court in the Mall and imagine that the two men talking were not talking about business but plotting how to plant a bomb and take over the city. Use your imagination. Think of what might happen if, an alternate conclusion to a problem. That is the key.

Have an idea or goal to write to - and then start at the beginning and write...

Any original piece wuld be something related to your life, something that happened to you or someone that you know. True stories are much easier to write about than come up with something. Also, I would advise you to check what you write before posting so no repetitions will occur in same sentence as you just did in your request here. This will give you better chances to win.

I am a writer too. I would advise you to look for a title first, then classify your ideas. Write about an event which happened to you when you were a child. It will be easy to recollect the ideas. Write a story with a morale, which teaches you a lesson at last. You can also write about a friend and his/her situation and how you helped her or brought her to the right path.

Well the fact that it needs to be original I would consider sticking to that. Don’t use anyone else’s material. Even ideas might be cheating the purpose of this exercise. You should be the owner as it will help you as well fill the requirements. However getting started with a story can be intimating. First step is think. Think of a story in your life, an event, an interest or just some topic. Give it a title. You can change it later if you wish. Consider a story that brings you enthusiasm. It will be much easier if the story is worth something to you - in your mind. Everyone gets excited about something so what of the first step makes you feel good? Start there.
