Stray dogs

We have 4 dogs and last night they barked from 4 a.m. until I got up and discovered that the source of the problem was a stray dog that had invaded their territory. They are kept in a large enclosure with kennels and small trees and usually sleep peacefully in the night. This morning I approached the dog, it was a friendly spaniel, probably a little under a year. It was a submissive, hungry. skinny frightened little dog. We removed the ticks it had around its ears, fed and watered it. It is obviously an abandoned hunting dog, a common sight when the summer season draws to an end and the hunters abandon their dogs.
Today we have put it into the enclosure where it is submissive enough for the other dogs to accept it up to a point. Now our problem is to know what to do with it. We already have rescued 4 dogs, it is an expensive business to take on so many dogs. What should we do? Finding a home for it is impossible in a country where there are so many abandoned animals. Cats stand more of a chance, but for dogs the situation is pitiful. What would you do?

first of all stray dogs are danger to small children and even to people if they get ray bays.so avid them as long as you can.your act of recuing them is very good and appreciable but they may be dangerous.you should consult the city government and administrative departments to take care of these matters.you can send these dogs to pet shop as charity or may even sell it to them.otherwise handover it to the above mentioned departments.i m sorry if you are hurt from my views of dogs but in our areas they are really danger and administartives have to shot them down to save people from their terror.

If only the local authorities would help, if only pet shops would help, if only there were enough shelters for abandoned dogs....On the bright side I have not heard of rabies being a problem here anymore. Aggression from packs of stray dogs does sometimes happen. Most of the dogs are simply looking for replacement homes, they want to belong. Surprisingly they are also friendly. It makes me weep just to think about it.

Awe, the poor thing. I would probably have to give it to a no kill shelter. There are lots of them that filled to the brim I'm sure. I do hope something happens for this sweet dog. For these pathetic hunters to just go and abandon these beautiful dogs after the hunting season is over is just how much respect they give animals in general. I'm not going to attack hunters, but if they hunt animals they are more likely to treat their domestic animals like this I'm sure. I want to cry when I hear things like this, some people are just plain heartless. The way they treat their "pets" is also the way they treat their friends, so they must be some kind of miserable poor example of a human being to do this. You on the other hand have done alot by saving four dogs via rescues. I commend you for that, it does get to be expensive. I wish I could take o 50 dogs and more cats myself but it is just not that easy. This country really needs to get back it's feet again and help not only themselves but these poor animals as well. I am curious. Why do cats have more of a chance than dogs?

I just noticed you don't live in the same country as me but in another one that I believe has a very bad rep for mistreating animals. That is why I won't ever attempt to even visit there until they get their act together and start treating cats and dogs better. I have read some appalling stories about the Greek and... well, it depresses me even to go on. :(

In defence of the Greeks I have to say that many people love their dogs. I know of several groups of women who band together, find stray dogs and pay vet fees to neuter them, that at least saves the females a lot of misery and stops the dogs from fighting. But they are few and far between and most of them get no help from the authorities. I have a friend who goes to the mountains and leaves food, water and shelter for abandoned dogs. It is all just the tip of the iceberg though. Greece has a long way to go.

Stray are precisely a topic to discuss a lot about. Actually in India stray dogs are a very serious problem. Even I have witness many situations where they have created lots and lots of problem. One morning when came out of my home, I found that a calf was moaning beside the next gate. When went nearer I was shocked, "they have eaten half of its neck, it was bleeding and bones were out of skin. In newspapers, often read about some problem created by these creatures. When I was in school, I was also beaten up by one these bas***. I hate them so much. If I get a chance I m gonna throw all them to place from a place from where then can never come back.

It's hard decision to make but if you can still adopt the dog that will be good

Hi there, I applaud you for taking care of stray dogs.
obviously you are a big animal lover but some where down
the line it does get expensive and so whats next???
what about SPCA authorities,,,cab't you asked them to come
pick the dog up...what about if you call them or the police

Good luck!!!!!

Because you have 4 dogs already I would give 2 to the SPCA so you don't have toput all your money to feed just the dogs, don't get me wrong I like dogs but went you have too many you have to make a decision and a quick one as long as they have a good home for them somewhere.

It is hard to say what you should do. I have three rescued cats and I take care also of some dogs in front of my apartment. In my country we have a lot of stray dogs and cats, because people don't want to neuter their pets and they simply throw the puppies on the street. I try to help at least a little so I neutered the strays around my block and I make sure that they have water and food. I would love to have a place to take all, but it is not possible. Until those people who abandon their pets are not properly punished and they don't change their mentality there is not too much to do unfortunately.

I would probably keep it. I already have four(thinking of you that is, not me)and what's another gunna be. It being a spaniel it is a very nice, smart, good natured animal and diserves a good home. WHich you can give it. You had only one at one time and have added three more for some reason. So what is one more going to do? Break you? I doubt it. And you will sleep easy at night too. I had a spaniel dog when I was young that was my companion for thirteen years. They are great dogs!
I went to live with a friend in a nearby farming community for about three months afew years back. There was a group of feral dogs that would come through the neighborhood late at night on the night before garbage pick up day. My friend was always so mad because she then had to go help the other neighbors clean up the mess these dogs had made. I wish they hadn't been so wild and we could have taken them in.

For me I would take care for them but ask help from generous people and dog lovers themselves. It is a pity that the owners abandoned them.

I am a dog lover, it would be nice to provide shelter and foods for stray dogs. But the financial expenses will sore for taking good care of them. Maybe, you can solicit some of your friends out there, who are willing to adopt the dog.
