I used to like watching movies. But in time due to being busy I ended up giving up this hobby. Now I have started watching movies again almost on a daily basis before going to sleep. Thanks to a refurbishment I did - new comfortable sofa and a large screen television I started this hobby again and I am really enjoying myself as I once used to do Does the environment around you affect you to watch movies?

Personally I don't think of watching TV or Movies as a hobby. Hobbies in my mind are more creative processes. Such as knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, building models, woodworking, intarsia, collecting coins or stamps. Watching movies is a great way to pass the time, find interesting entertainment or travel to another time and place without every leaving your home. They are enjoyable in all the categories available. Surroundings are nice if they are clutter free, comfortable and provide enough space between you and the big screen, regardless of what size is in your home. The same movie brings many emotions to all whether watching a 21" or a 60". I do find watching in the living room comfy and it also provides more space for the whole family to watch together. When I am working in the office the television in there is basically to keep me company as background noise. Although there are times when I do watch a show all the way through in here too. Mostly when my back is out and I can't walk. I have everything I need in one room when I can't move about the house normally. Watching movies in the bedroom can go two ways. I either stay up too long watching because I am so engrossed or I fall fast asleep and miss the whole thing. Getting too comfortable is a easy way to miss a show no matter how much you wanted to watch it. Surroundings do affect your mood, how comfortable you are and give you an inexpensive way to enjoy the entertainment world.

I do not agree with you. 1. A hobby relaxes you, and watching movies certainly relaxes me. 2. A hobby takes your mind off other things. Watching movies certainly helps me do that. 3. A hobby is something you like or love doing.

Yes hobbies do those things but watching movies is just entertainment. If you did a discussion that only asked if watching movies is a true hobby you would be surprised at the outcome.

Oh yes, I like watching movies while i am comfortable. If not, I can not enjoy the movie. I plan out movies for every day :).

I would like to do that - planning a movie for every night. Often it is not possible. But at least I try to keep to 3-4 a week. In winter I often prefer to go to bed early or snuggle there reading a book.

I am a movie lover and can watch a whole series lying on my bed with a great tv. It is my number one passion for relaxing. I am going to watch something now after writing. Enjoy the pleasure. All you need is a packet of Whispers - chocolate balls that melt in your mouth. Have fun, and enjoy the weekend.

Yes it is one of the best ways to relax. You practically forget all about everything else and seclude yourself in a new world.

Hi grkelly Its good to know that you have again started wathcing movies which was your hobby. Even one of my hobby is watching horror, fantasy and adventure movies but from two years I was unable to watch movies coz I got very busy with my M.B.A studies but now again after M.B.A I have again started watching movies like you and I m now feeling great as I m having fun watching them and feeling relax. From my experience what I realized is we should never ever end or give up our hobbies no matter how much busy we are in life. Atleast once in a week for just one hour or few minutes we should try to continue our hobbies whatever it may be like watching movies, painting, listening to music, reading book, composing music, etc. This gives us a huge strength to do our daily work more affectively with out any stress or boredoom and also give us relaxation from our daily stress. So please continue with your hobbies. Have a nice day !

Yes nadi333 i agree with you. Now that I have started watching movies regularly again I realized how much I had missed them. As you rightly said it is best to try and retain our hobbies even if for a few minutes. After all hobbies and pastimes make us who we are.

The only problem I have at our house is trying to watch something in the daytime. The glare comes from every direction. But besides the lighting issue, there's nothing that stops me from watching a good movie. My problem is finding one I haven't already seen. I'll re-watch a handful of movies maybe, I just want to see new ones that are good, just like with books. I don't want to watch or read something where I already know the ending.

Yes i have the same problem too in the morning/afternoon. That is why I usually watch movies at night. Besides in the morning I am practically always busy. I agree that at times we do find a problem as to what to watch. We often try looking up info online so as to learn what seems to be trendy at the moment. Unfortunately a dvd rental shop which was really a few doors away from my home closed down a few years ago.

Well, it depends upon the movie that I watch. Normally, if it's horror movie or a comedy one, I don't let other people disturb me but I let them join me from watching. By that, I can just get rid of people who'll annoy me from watching. I watch movies over the net and most of the time on our cabled tv. Movies are really fun to watch. It's been a hobby too before but I'm not doing it as often right now. I'm busy at work. :) I also do watch good movies at the theater. Having a popcorn with me is the best while sitting on a relaxing chair with the big screen on the theater. It really makes me feel relaxed. :)

I will watch movies on my computer just to see ones I like! I love sci-fi and action movies especially. Your refurbishment sounds nice. I am looking forward to getting a large screen wall mounted t.v. some year and really treating myself. One thing I love about watching movies at home - if I get tired, I can finish them later. If I doze off at the movie theater I feel I've missed something I spent good money on seeing. Since I am so tired much of the time it is more enjoyable watching from home.

Yes it is cheaper to watch movies at home and more entertaining usually as I can wear whatever I feel like and simply relax. The only problem is that usually my kid starts feeling sleepy in the middle of the movie. So we have to pause it for a bit well, it is a form of intermission I like cinemas too but I only go usually three times a year maximum. One thing I hate about cinemas is people talking plus the fact that you do not always get to sit in the center. Besides I do not like the fact that you have to go out in the light (if it is not a late night screening) aftr all that darkness in the theater. I am really happy with my refurbished living room. It took a lot of time and effort, plus savings too, but it is worthwhile and I made quite some bargains too especially on the sofa.

Your environment has a lot to do with how you feel. If you do not enjoy or feel comfortable in your environment you will not enjoy the things you do within it. If you have a cluttered, busy space to do work in you may not be able to accomplish much. If you have an uncomfortable, not very pleasing space you may not be able to relax in it. Maybe you just needed a change to feel comfortable and enjoy the things you used to do.

Yes I agree. The sofa I used to have was not very comfortable. Besides the tv was smaller. Now I am not only comfortable on the sofa but the screen is larger and sharper and the fuzzy carpet is great :) A nice, pleasant environment can really do wonders. In this case it affects the way I feel while resting. But as you said the enviroment while working is really important. Personally I cannot get to work and concentrate if I know that there are things cluttered next to me. I am very organized. It is a bit of a pain but that's how I am
