Sleeping in the afternoon is a luxury I enjoy in the summer months. As long as I sleep for no longer than an hour it does not affect my ability to sleep at night. When I wake up in the afternoon I feel as fresh as I did in the morning. I have done most of my work in the morning so in the afternoon I am free to use my time as I choose, up to a point. It is like having two days instead of one. Does that mean that a nap in the afternoon is more of a necessity than a luxury?

It's nice to be able to take a nap, I only can do it in weekend when I don't have any work to do D=
I feel that humans actually need nap, and humans actually biphasics, however because now the hours to work become long because of industrilization, now most of people can't afford napping which is too bad, because napping as little as 20 minutes can become a power nap. You may get refreshed by 20 minutes nap. But don't nap too long because it'll throw your sleep schedule at night, while make you unable to sleep at night.

Yes you ca noverdo it with sleepless nights as a result. We used to call them catnaps, or 40 winks, now they are power naps. I read that Florence Nightingale coped with all the long hours of nursing by being an expert at cat naps. Even history agrees with us.

I generally cannot nap unfortunately, unless I am very tired, as it affects how I sleep at night. Not always though, when I am at the beach, I like to nap, and it doesn't affect me at all for some reason. I do think that taking naps is actually good for you if you are able to do so, as there is a lot of research and a lot of doctors do say that a short nap in the middle of the day can be beneficial. I think in summer in particular where the days are so long and at time the heat is so intense that taking a nap is the ideal thing to do.

I think we might find our health better if we treated an afternoon nap as a necessity. I like to take really brief, but deep naps. It seems to help a lot. Probably should do it all the time. It sounds like your days are really well organized.

The mornings are rather hectic but things feel better organised after my nap.

For me it is less than 40 winksas my mind wanders having to finish some pleasant chores that await me in the later part of the afternoon - example a walk with my pet dog Preiti.
My doctor friend recommends that everyone should take a nap even if it is for a few minutes. When I was working, I used to just put my head down on the table during lunch hour!!

I love taking quick naps in the afternoons. I'm only able to do this if I don't have work or schoolwork to be done. It's great to take a nap in the afternoon because sometimes I just feel so tired that I need a little break. But I find that if I sleep too long during a nap I'll wake up and feel horrible, I'll have a migraine and be a bit dizzy. So as long as I keep my nap at about an hour I can wake up feeling great.

I have occasionally woken up feeling worse than before I slept to long also. It is better not to be too comfortable when you nap, you need a little cool air to wake you up, or even leave the TV on, when the adverts blaze out that can wake you up quite nicely.

Siesta time makes me feel better also. I have to wake-up early to prepare kids for school, and after lunch time I feel sleepy. Most of the time I take a nap in the afternoon because if I failed to do it, I feel dizzy or sometimes I have headache in the early evening. For me a nap in the afternoon is a necessity.

It depends upon the person, some people need more sleep than others. It also has to do with your metabolism, and if you have a sleeping disorder. Some people don't get enough sleep at night while others are sleeping too much.
If you wake up refreshed then it is good for you. As we get older, more of us tend to have an afternoon nap.

For me it is a necessity. I am disabled so everything I do tires me out. I am like you and try to do most stuff in the morning and then it is time for a nap. Sometimes I even take two depending on the day and what else is going on. Since I am disabled, I don't work so I have no time constraints like that. I usually only sleep half an hour or an hour and don't usually have trouble sleeping at night. Nap time is the highlight of my day, in fact I am going to take a nap now.

Lucky for you that you get recharged after a nap. Unfortunately for me, it gives me a headache.

I love sleeping during the afternoon it gives me the energy that I need for the next half of my day. Man I miss doing these when I was still like in elementary when I was still a little boy my parents adviced me to sleep during the afternoon so that I will grow faster and reach my dream height. Oh well now that Im in college that barely happens I do not have much time for these things but still sleep is very important and we should take it fully when possible. Goodluck and happy mylotting!

Technically, a one-hour nap is not a necessity for most people, unless you have a job like mine that often requires you to go days without sleep, than any sleep you can get is beneficial. They say your body only need 4 hrs of sleep in a 24 hr period. HOWEVER! When you can get a good night's rest, and still take a quick nap in the afternoons, it is most certainly a blessing, and a luxury. And if that one hour nap helps you feel better and function better, and does not disrupt your sleeping at night, then I would say you can go ahead and call that a necessity. How can something that benefits you not be a necessity sometimes?! I know I certainly value sleep much more these days than I used to. And for me, sometimes a quick power nap is all I need to get through the day, and other days, I need a good 10-12 hours of good, deep sleep before having a good, well-functioning day. :)

A nap is good because it lets your body take time to rest. By taking a break from a stressful day it allows you to feel more relaxed. In addition, when you are relaxed your mind allows you to think through solutions and even delevop a way to solve a problem.

I think this is a necessity. The reason why there is such thing as lunch break in the office is not just for eating lunch but for employees to also take a short nap. A ten-minute nap in the afternoon is actually enough to revive one's mind, body and spirit. Anyone who takes a nap in the afternoon can notice the difference in his performance.
But siesta time is not just for employees. It is actually for everyone to enjoy. A full time mother needs this more than anyone else because household chores are exasperating and never ending. So it is needful for a stay home mother to allot even 10 to 20 minutes for a short nap.

you do the right thing^^ after work we need a little rest. so then you wake up with more strength. i think this is a luxury for people that work 8 hours a day. they usually cant sleep in the afternoons. but if they work only in mornings they can do this for sure^^ spanish people have a siesta time. in all countries it should exist ahah

Just a short nap in the afternoon is a necessity to activate myself for another tasking work in the afternoon. This makes me energize and be alert until i come home for my household chores and do my responsibility to my family. During weekends I usually have my nap longer that the weekdays because I'm free to do it at home after I've done my housekeeping and marketing for the coming week days.

It is a necessity. For lazy people like me, yes it is. Afternoon nap is mostly more satisfying than night sleep.
