Each person has different ways to cope up with life's unpleasant situations. For me shopping is one way to unwind I really felt glad when I shop. It is stress relieving but not at all times. It depends on how severe the stressor was, there are certain situations that can't be relieved by shopping.
How about you? can you be relieved by shopping? How do you manage stress?

hi there,
with reference to your post, for me here, it depends. there are times, it really relieves my stress but it will go to a certain extent. if the shopping will just be within the budget. hence, if i will shop beyond the budget, then it will make another point of stress. as it will create an over budget.

I also never been shop beyond my budget. If I want to buy something which is really expensive it must something that was already been planned and that I already saved enough money for that.

I think some people are relieved by shopping but it will not work for me because it will stress me more.hahaBecause I am not that rich to go shopping when I am stressed.I am always stressed and sometimes I just have to walk and just have a massage and I am okay with that.

I am not that rich also but when I don't have enough money to buy things, I only buy something to eat and then window shop afterwards. It can still relieve also. Taking a walk is a good way to de-stress also, a non-costly way. A massage? I haven't tried to have myself massaged since birth...LOL

it really became my hobby i think. it's because there's no other way for me to go out aside from going to church. I work at home so to make myself feel better from all the stress i got throughout the week it makes me feel good by going to the mall and shop during week ends..

Hi Adhyz,
I also believe that women that women loves to shop more often than men. Maybe because women's accessories are not that expensive we can buy low cost stuff for ourselves than men's. Would you agree? I'm not so sure with this LOL. It can really relieve stress for me when I have something new in hand.

Shoppping is a standard stress relief for many of us. Of course if we are silly and spend money we can't aford then it has the reverse effect. I have discovered that even window shopping can relieve stress, so I think that just getting out of the house is part of the solution. Even if we don't buy anything our minds become preoccupied with the pretty things around us. Buying a new dress never fails to cheer me up, if I look good I feel better.
On a day to day basis it is impractical to go to the shops so my stress relief takes the form of a time of prayer. Not a long time, just long enough to share my woes and get things into perspective.

Right I agree. There is a fun side when we shop things that we like to have but of course overspending can aggravate stress. How about window shopping where people just browse over items and not actually buying the stuffs? That is right window shopping actually, where our eyes feast on every items it sees.

I never really shop with things that my pocket can't afford. There are things that I really want but is beyond my budget I just make myself content by just fitting it on and then walk away.
And you are right combedaleroad, window shopping can still relieve stress and I often do that also. I remember there was once a high heeled sandals that I really loved it looks really good on my feet. But my money can't really afford with that amount what I did was every time i went to that mall I always check if the sandals was still there and make myself feel good fitting it on and then walk away. That's what I always do to the things I want but can't afford.

Sleeping is a good way to relieve stress also but not for me. How I wish I can sleep when I'm stressed. I envy those people who can still sleep sweet and sound though they have some problems to handle.

Well, in times of distress, even if we do not buy different or costly stuff, even looking at pleasing things through the shop windows, or on shelves inside stores provide a lot of stress-relief, and a sense of well being. Or rather a kind of placebo to us.

Hi sweety,
I agree with that, sometimes I just fit some clothes or footwear that I like then only buy something it eat when I don't really have the fund to shop. I am relieved still.

I honestly believe that shopping can relieve stress to some extent, but you do have to know when it is time to draw the line. For example if you spend more money than you can afford then that might end up causing you more stress in the long term than it would have caused you if you had simply treated yourself to one thing that you might have been wanting for a while. I like to go shopping when I am stressed, but instead of shopping for myself I will either do the weekly food shopping for the family which would have to be done anyway, or I would try to buy some things for my family's birthdays. This means that it is money that I would have to spend at some point, but yet I still get to go shopping so it is a lot better than nothing.

Hi Gem,
For me, I don't buy something which is beyond my budget. If I want to buy something expensive I made sure I already planned about about it and spend the money that I saved and was really intended for it.
It's good you do a wise shopping for food instead of something for your self. You shop for the benefit of your household and that's a good attitude.

Chentu, shopping indeed can relieve stress. I ever tried it a few times and agreed that it can really relieve stress. The only problem is, you must control well your spending. Buy things that are really necessary and affordable. If not, it will add more stress in your life. I ever gone through it and i understand that we should always handle our money with care.

You're right myfb. Anyway I don't have any problem with that because I only buy things which my pocket can afford. If i buy expensive things I made it sure that I already planned about it ahead of time and I already saved that amount just for that expensive thing that I would buy.

OH yeah shopping is a great stress reliever until you get your credit card bill!
Window shopping can relieve stress too but it's too much of a temptation. As long as you know how to limit your budget it's a good stress reliever.
I prefer gardening though.

Me Toni, i don't window shop if i don't have a budget for it. I don't like charging them to my credit card anymore.

It really feels great pampering ourselves. It feels good when you can have the things that you love to have. If only my wallet would allow me to, how I wish to get stressed out everyday.

It is also good for other people to shop to relieve their stress but that is not my way. :) I eat :( if I'm stressed. Food is the best way to relieve it. Haha. I sometimes shop but if I'm not stressed because I need more time to choose what I really want.

Eating is your way of relieving stress but to some who easily gain weight eating as their way of relieving stress might be difficult isn't it?

I also do that when I don't have enough money to shop. I just buy something to eat and do the window shopping. I can still be relieved then. Good thing you also relieved stress in a non-costly way when you draw when you're stressed out.

Hi!
Yes, you are right that shopping or window shopping could de-stress us. Many of us go to the market to change our mood and buying helps us relieve our tension. I come to mylot to relieve my stress and learn a lot here.

They do say shopping is great stress relief for a lot of people, but to some it can be rather a painful thing.
Some people buy all the things that they want with their wages, rather than all the things that they really need and these are the people that gets them self in a financial mess.
If I have spare money, then I tend to put it away until I need something, or to treat the family to some thing nice.
All I make sure is that all the bills are paid first and then what ever is left over is a bonus.I have to do all my shopping online or get people to collect things from shops for me, that is mainly at christmas time.

Hi! Sometimes I do find shopping to be a stress reliever as I do feel that I am somewhat in control and it gives me a chance to actually think. It also helps if the shopping is really a need.
Other methods that I find work are driving, listening to music, a film, and perhaps working out at the gym...anywhere I can think and sort through the problem. For me this seems to work better than saying the wrong thing to someone and regretting it later.

As for me,shopping can not relieve my stress at all, even willl add the stress on me because I will find out that I had spent more money and some of cost is not necessary. So I am very curious how come girls can through shopping to relieve their stress because it will be tired and waste money.

I do agree with you that shopping can relieve stress to a degree, especially for us girls. We enjoy buying what we like, and it seems to never end. However we need to pay for what we bought.Besides.I think it does not sound like a good idea to much shopping, many other ways like reading, singing, travel, talking to our friends and family can also relieve stress.I usually prefer to listening to music or keeping a diary and I think I benefit a lot from it.

Yes,sometimes I would like to release my pressure by shopping.Shopping is really a good way especially when buying shomething we love. But sometimes,I even don't want to go out because of my low spirit. Then I'd like to listen to music or sleeping or eating. All in all, there are many ways to relieve our pressure and we just need to choose one we like.
