What do you call a party for woman, before the nuptial day?

A bachelorette party is just that...a party. Eating and drinking and maybe some entertainment. A bridal shower is a gathering where the guests bring gifts for the bride or for her soon-to-be house.

In America, they are usually seen as two different things. When one thinks of a bridal shower, one thinks of things being classy, elegant, a nice get-together. The bride-to-be gets things for her house, she is showered with gifts. A bride-to-be can expect to get things for her kitchen, like dishes and glassware. She can expect to get things for her bedroom like nice linen, or towels for the bathroom, things of that nature. She might get money from family. A bachelorette party is the female equivalent of the male bachelor party. At his party, the bachelor might have strippers and lots of liquor and a bunch of his friends over, people acting real wild...after all, it is his last party as a single, carefree man. Well, the bachelorette party might have male strippers, food, gifts from friends, music, you know, a party. These parties are usually given a few days before the wedding, whereas a bridal shower might be or could be given a month or more in advance. Shower=a get together where gifts are given for the home. Bachelorette party=a get together for the not yet married bride to be. Everybody is different. Some women may opt for a very elegant bridal shower, some women may opt for a more casual bridal shower. Some women may have a bridal shower to get the gifts, but choose not to have a bachelorette party at all.

I think they are using 'bachelorette party' more now days. Bridal shower is more eligant and structured where a bachelorette party is more like the bachelor party for fun and frolic. Yes, there does seem to be alot of different names for this party that comes before the wedding nuptials.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think they are two different things. The "bridal shower" is where the female friends and family get together and "shower" the bride-to-be with gifts. The bachelorette party is when the bride-to-be goes out with her friends for "one last" wild night as a single woman.

I heard more of bachelorette. It can be a pretty fun party!

Both are used here depending on what you say it is. I think the bridal shower is more a traditional with the family sort thing, whereas bachelorette party is more with friends and having a fun night out.

I'm a guy so I've always know it as a bridal shower, its not really a bachelorette party since the guys have a bachelor party and the term bachelorette isn't really word. Not sure what movie you watched but there are lots of them and most of them are comedies.

Here in the UK we call them Hen Parties, or Hen Nights, where the bride to be will get together with her friends, female family members, female work colleagues or whoever, and have the equivalent of the male stag party.

A bridal shower is when woman get gifts for her upcoming wedding from friends and family. A bachelorette party is when the woman goes out with other women and have fun! Like the guys do. Most bachelor and bachelorette parties are done like a a week or few weeks before the wedding,nowadays. Having that the day or night before the wedding is to much to handle for some people!

They are usually two different things. A bachelorette party is kind of like a bachelor party only for the bride. It is usually just a party and sometimes there is a male dancer for the bride. There is usually no gifts. A bridal shower is much tamer, and you bring gifts. Bachlorette is usually at night, and a shower is usually during the afternoon and the bride's relatives are in attendance. Most bacheorette parties are not attended by the mother, or older relatives and it is mostly for friends of the bride.

A bridal shower I think is more commonly used term instead of a bachelorette party. Atleast, that is how I have read from all the invitations I got from my friends who had their parties before their wedding.

These words are both used depending on the person whether the host or the guests. For me what is most commonly used is bridal shower as we are used to it.

I most often heard the word "bridal shower" than a "bachelorette" party.Maybe some other countries use that word for them to describe that particular celebration. I do not have an idea regarding that word and I never encountered that word even before.

I've been used to the "bridal shower" name. But, I guess "bachelorette party" is okay. No matter what you name it, it's still that last party where she is single.
