Starting Your Own Business

I always wanted to start my own housecleaning business, but I'm uncertain to whether I should use my own cleaning supplies or if I should use the person's own cleaning supplies. If I would use my own cleaning supplies, what if the person may have a reaction to them. I've done housecleaning before for companies, but thought I could start a housecleaning business and also run errands for people. My "dream" business would be a bar/restraunt/ sleeping rooms and taxi service. I would have the bar/restraunt on the main floor and have sleeping rooms on top of the main floor. I would use the sleeping rooms like a motel for the people that drank too much and didn't want to go home, they could stay there and not have to worry about driving. If they wanted to go home but couldn't drive then I would charge a fee to drive them home. Have you ever wanted to start your own business and what would it be? If you have started your own business how did you over come any doubts you had and just did it?

Those were great ideas! I hope your plan materializes. You will surely be successful with any kind of business if you have your whole heart into it.
Actually, my sisters in law and I have been planning of putting up our own spa. We already have a place, at my in law's building. We just need to finish submitting our application for license and permit.

Thanks! I just hope everything pushes through and I pray that all detractors would just stop discouraging us in putting up this kind of business.

Oh, how interesting, starting a spa! As far as my bar/resteraunt business that will have to take quite a bit of money and I'm trying to start a business (which I'll enjoy doing)without too much start up cost. Good luck with the spa, sounds fun!!

I think you should ask each customer.
That restaurant bar business sounds great. I never really had any dreams about businesses until I studied for counselling. I ended up becoming disabled so the next step was my own writing business.

I have hearing loss and arthritis in my back so it makes it hard for me to do anything also. If you could message me on any pointers on how to start a writing business that would be great!

I did have my own buisness. It is scary to do but u just have to put on your big girl panties & go for it. I started out w/just a beauty shop , then i bought a bigger building & added an antique mall at the front. It did well, alot of hard work but it was worth it to be my own boss, lol. good luck if u go for it.

You are absolutely right, I need to put on my big girl panties and go for it! I'll start with the house cleaning business first though, because not that much money to invest. What's the worse that can happen, nobody wants to pay me for cleaning their house, like I haven't heard "NO" before!

I think you should offer two different prices for your services. A lower price if the supplies are provided, and a slightly higher price if you provide your own. You should also write a contract for when they employ you, and make sure you say that you don't take responsibility if they have a reaction, and that it is their job to tell you if there is anything that they can't use. I would recommend that you definitely give it a go regardless of any doubts you might have, because running your own business might be the best thing that you ever get the chance to do in life.

Nice one, keep trying. If you read the biographies of people who've been successful in business, most of them went through a period of struggle early on, and a lot of them had businesses fail but started again. Failure's something you can learn from, so you do better next time.

Hi stout! Housecleaning is a good business idea. You could offer them an option, with a little difference on the price.
I also wanted to have my own business but since I am working full time, I don't have time to do it as of now especially that my work requires much time and effort. I am looking forward to having my own computer shop but I know this kind of business is already everywhere in our place. That is why I am thinking of another business that is still related to computer aside from selling one.

Now days computers are in demand that's for sure. I figure with housecleaning, everyone needs or wants their house to be cleaned. My daughter-in-law is taking courses in computer to fix computers and be a support technician. Guess there is a lot of money to be made in computers.

I currently do have my own business. I am in the health and wellness business. I have my own Herbalife business and i love it. I didn't have doubts about starting Herbalife, i had doubts about opening up my own Herbalife club. But I didn't allow my doubts to keep me from doing it. And in the end, my business is growing and I could not be happier about my choice. Now i get to help people get healthy and wealthy each day.

I recently started in business as a full-time eBay trader. I'd been doing a little bit as a private seller, and I'd also just had six months of unemployment, so it didn't really seem that big a step to me. I do have doubts, but you basically just have to solve one problem at a time and learn as you go along. It's not as daunting as I thought it would be.
Concerning the cleaing supplies - my Dad has recently started using a firm of cleaners to clean his flat a couple of times a month. They bring their own supplies, so I expect that's the norm. It seems senible to me, because you can save money by buying supplies in bulk, and you know not to use anything you might have a reaction to.

I have always worked for myself such as sub-contracting and such and the only part I have ever regretted is how much harder it is to get good insurance when you are self employed. Other than that I have always had a lot of respect for those type of people who know what they want to do and get out there and try to make it work against the big companies.
I think you already know the answer to your question. As the type of person who want's to run her own cleaning business you are already going to be educated in a better type of cleaning supplies to use that others won't know about. I can see your situation though. If you were doing clean ups on new houses it wouldn't really matter but with house cleanings where people live in, you might want to ask them some courtesy questions about possible allergies to certain chemicals and if they might have any preferences. They might even be really curious as to what your preference is. You can still keep your costs down by asking these questions by stating that unless conflicts due to allergies then the customer needs to supply any preferenced cleaning materials or the cleaning bill would reflect a slightly higher charge.
I have found that if you put yourself in the shoes of others and treat them as you would like to be treated then you can almost always find a nice way of doing business. It all has to do with respect. You sound like you have your own way of doing things already and I am impressed. I told you that I always respect people who get out there in the world and try to make their dreams come true especially knowing how hard it is for the "small business" to begin with.
I have found a freedom from being self-employed that I can find no where else and I would hate to punch a clock again after so many years on my own. I am into internet work now and I have been taking classes so I can start designing web sites for needy companies. This way I stay self-employed and keep up with the times so I can compete with the wages that I need to earn. I can still keep all my work in the same area. Computer repair, buying and selling, and now designing websites while waiting on the other customers. I hate change, but you have to roll with it or get left behind.

Hi Stout,
You have an overflowing train of ideas about business, you should put it into action . Me, I also want to have my own business, and I would love have my own hotel/resort that people can go to to relax, hold meetings or conferences or hold summer camps, and offer recreational activities both for old and young people. But that would mean a lot of money to begin with, and I don't have the resources. So for now, let that remain a dream, who knows I might be able to realize it in the future .

I want to open an online business and am hoping if all goes well I will be able to sell some of my Christmas crafts by the end of October. I have been busy getting things done. I moved earlier this month and am still in the process of unpacking and reorganizing. Maybe by next year I can rent a booth at a local swap meet and sell my crafts there as well. I wish you all the best with your business. As for the cleaning supplies I would have your own, but give them the option of using their products. If you use your own products I would charge one price and if you use their products then I would charge less.

In our community most of the boys or man wants to start own business not like doing the job under the boss. In our family my husband's brother start his own electric shops and sell all electric parts and my husband starts their own business related to Computer maintenance and sell.

I would use my own products, ones that I knew worked well without damaging enamel, tiles, stainless steel etc. I would not use my own vacuum cleaner however because every house has its own smell and particular germs and I would not want to take them from one home to another, and I would certainly not want to take them home with me.
Running errands is a nice idea but you would have to factor in the cost of petrol and running a car. I think your idea of sleeping rooms might leave you open to danger and would you really like to be alone with someone in your car who was too drunk to drive himself home?

In the case of opening a housecleaning business, I would offer the option, with one fee for your products and another fee if you use theirs, slightly cheaper perhaps. I would then invest in the best products I could afford, possibly something hypo allergenic. I like Shaklee products, for instance and they are multipurpose and very concentrated and generally hypoallergenic. As a side you could sell those same products. Your all in one business also sounds good. I like to write online and I have had in home daycare. Hubby would like to have a detailing business and we get a good start, then something goes wrong. . . or people say they want the service and then do not follow through and set a date. I say if you are starting any kind of business, get all the training you can and make it ongoing. Advertize with professional looking materials and buy the best equipment you can afford.

I sorta have my own business....I sell crafts doing craft sales but it's not enough to live off. I have tried selling online too but not successful at that. I don't have time to promote like you need to for the sales. Otherwise I have always wanted a scrapbooking/stamping store. But that is also somewhat of a fad. It won't be for me as I love making cards...but people change their interests...and now there are so many companies out there that do this. So now I took a class on selling like a pro on ebay. I'll see how that goes...hopefully it will fly.
