They know we have him, but no matter he kept coming back to our house accross a very dangerous road. They are not home enough to keep him locked up so we just took him in with us. He is an orange cat, stripped in a very pretty pattern. He has a very deep voice and talks a lot, we like that having lived with those typs of cats
a long time.
Sadie hound has mixed feelings. but after a couple of swipes from the cat for being nosey she has accepted this new member of the family, I don't think that this adjustment is over but have every hope it will be settled. The new guy came from a home with 3 very large dogs so he know how to handle a dog.
We named him Jack for Jack-O-Lanter since it is close to Halloween.

Basically stolen with permission. With Halloween coming up that is also a good reason to be giving him a safe home. My son'e fiance is adopting the cat that the owner of the previous house abandoned. That makes the household have one fish, two guinea pigs, one dog and one young kitty. Reports are that the kitty and the dog get along well already. Around here Jack could also be for Jack Frost as we have had some frost in the last week or so.

Wow, my fingers are tongue tied. My son's fiance. It is the cat that belonged to the previous owner of the house she bought.

You did a right decision for the safety of the cat. If you won't adopt that cat, maybe he/she will be put in danger while crossing the roads.
We have also visitor here a cats from our neighbors but everytime they visit us, we always offer food for them.

Congratulations for the new pet! But what about the previous owners? Do they miss the cat? If not that means they didn't deserve him. I think that cats have a very strong personality, they always know what they are doing. It seems that Jack has made the choice to live in your home. Have a nice time together

Thanks for posting this discussion. Glad to hear that the cat loves to be in the company of your family but i think that was a wrong move to steal away the cat from the neighbor and keep it with u. No doubt the cat felt comfortable coming to your house but then that is the not the viable option of making the cat comfortable. i think now since u have the cat u should convince them about your possession of the cat forever.
What say?

At least this cat will have somewhere to be while his owners are away and won't have to cross the strets again. I miss having cats in my home as well. There are 4 - 5 around here lately but they are wild and they won't come to me. One came up to the door but since my dog was inside it scared away when the dog poked his head outside.
I think you're doing a very neighborly thing for keeping their cat safe. Also a humane thing so the cat won't be hurt or run over because it is probably lonesome while the owners are away.

It's not a case of you stealing the cat, cats definitely do not have owners they just decide a nice home and adopt the people. The cat decided that you seemed nice and decided to adopt you,you really didn't have much say in the matter.People say that cats are aloof but I disagree they just don't really understand cats they just show their affection by choosing to live with us if a cat didn't love us it would just decide to leave.

I'm so glad to hear that you and your husband have decided to keep the cat at your house so that he will not be risking his life every time that he decided to come over and visit you. I have to admit that I was concerned for his well-being after the first time that you talked about him.
I also have to say that I love the name that you've chosen to use for him, that would definitely be a name that I would use for a cat if I was to ever have an orange cat.

Sounds like it was meant to be ;) if the previous owners were silly enough to keep letting the cat out even though they knew it was crossing a dangerous road, well, then they do NOT deserve to keep it.
Great that Jack is with a family who will love and cherish him

We didn't lock him up until he had returned to our house four days in a row. We contacted the owners and they came to pick him up but two days later he was back again. We can't leave cats out at night since there are many preditors that love to make a meal out of house cats. The wild cats learn quickly to hide but tame cats don't know enough. It's been three weeks now and they haven't even looked for him.

Maybe the cat knows you take better care of him than his owners. Might be why he keeps coming back to you.

I think stole is the wrong word, shared, you cat share him! Cats are their own animals, they are independent, I think they choose their owners, or where they get fed the best rather than the other way round. We have a cat who always sits outside our door and our elderly neighbours! He knows he's get titbits from both of us as we are both big cat lovers! He spends more time with us than he does his own home. Mind you where he officially belongs is a pesky dog that barks all the time so I don't blame him, besides they probably feed him boring cat food, we feed him the leftovers of our roast dinner, cheese and other bits, so if I was a cat I know where I'd rather be!

I know how the previous owner feels right now. We had a pretty white cat that kept on visiting our neighbors until they adopted her without our consent and it just felt terrible. We couldn't force it to stay so claiming it was no longer an option. After a while, we got used to the fact that she was more comfortable there for whatever reason so we just got used to it. Now, we are happy to see that she is doing fine.

Apparently the neighbors do not mind you took their cat? That is nice of you to take him in and give him a better life. Why was he coming over to your house just to explore or was he coming over for food since his owners were leaving him alone and not feeding him?
