Why Muslims Don't Eat Pork?

Pig is an animal and like all animals, it does not have any conscience like humans. So, it cannot be considered sinful. I believe Islam like other religion does look after the well being of its believers and as such the restrictions on their diets. It is a fact that pigs are very easy to rear, as by nature they are known to be scavengers which will eat anything and I really mean anything. Before today, pigs are actually raised with swills of unwanted leftover food and soup. So, they are quite disgusting by sight and because of their disgusting diet, they are very prone to diseases and illnesses. And once they are ill, an epidemic outbreak is quite common amongst them like swine fever. As Islam and Christianity has a relative link, I believe the other aspect is found in the religious record where the demons were actually cast into a herd of swines like mentioned in the Christian Bible ref: Matthew 8: 31. But, Christianity does not forbid the eating of pork on their believers like the Muslims on Islam. Basing on these various facts, I believe that these are the reasons for the Muslims being forbidden from eating pork.

Hi Toxic, This is because pig is considered to be the unclean animal and its not good to eat such animal. This is the only story for them not eating pork.

Hi toxic, I'm sure that pigs are not sinful animals and I'm equally certain that's not the reason why Muslims don't eat pork. I expect it's because they consider the pig to be unclean. It's a known fact today that pork is not a healthy food and it's best to avoid it or eat very little. Blessings.

its really hard for those who is not belong to the Islamic or Muslims people to understand why they don't eat pork because even me don't know the reason why,i don't know the connection between the pig and to their religion.maybe if you are a Muslim then you can understand it.

Because they want to make sure you have something to eat too ? There aren`t enough pigs on this planet so that should be the reason.

Hi toxic_lifestyle, We Muslims do not eat pork simply because it is forbidden. That is the main reason, some people can justify it being not clean etc. but that can be only considered a justification. Main thing is it is forbidden. Similarly Muslims do not eat dogs, cats etc. which some other people consume.

The value Qu'ran on their beliefs. It is written that pork should be avoided in all people who believes in Islam. By the way, not only Muslims don't want to eat pork, also seventh day Adventist people.

it`s like we ask why any christian visit Church every sunday.. why?? and sometimes you don`t know the detailed.. Moslem follow and obey Allah instruction from Holy Quran... But the latest research shows that there are finding suitable with the order of Holy Quran... And as moslem,iam glad that Holy Al Quran can open eyes some researchers that Islam is true in every side..

I do not know what is the backing for not eating pigs'meat by the Muslims. Once my muslim classmate too gave the reason saying that they do not eat pig because it is a dirty animal. They do not eat pig meat or pork because the Holy Quaran forbids it.My logical reasoning is that the Prophet Mohammed adopted the first part of the Bible till Abraham. In Bible the Lord Yahweh forbade the people of Israel not to eat unclean food. And pig is one of them. That's all. But pig is just like any other animal and we cannot say that any animals are sinners, though they have their positive and negative instincts.

I have a muslim friend who tells me, it is because "Pigs are dirty animals".
