Hi all!
Many of us keep connecting with our on line friends through chat windows. Now a days we have our PCs, Laptops, Notebooks, ipads, tablets and smart phones etc.
It is always easier to chat with on line friends with these modern age devices. However, I feel that if one does not have a good typing speed (either way through conventional typing writing method or otherwise) speedy chatting gets difficult and cumbersome.
I chat with my on line friends and I find some of them have very good speed on either of the devices. I could also type very fast but some beat me through their sheer speed and thought process.
What is your take on it? Do you feel like chatting with on line friends who take time to respond when they are on line or you bear with them, irrespective of time they take in responding? Please share your experiences.

I have a very good speed for typing both on computer as well as mobile. I can easily chat with more than one person at a time because of my good typing speed. Yes chatting does get boring at times when the other person does not respond quickly.

I love chatting. It is so much better than talking on the phone. My typing speed is ok I guess. I don't care how fast or slow my friends type.

You are right that our speed of thoughts should match our typing speed and vice versa, else we won't be able to respond to chat message quickly.

Hiya dpk.,
Seeing as I do not have much time to even be on here a long time I really have not got the chance to chat very much with anyone.
I can type pretty fast and make conversations fast as well depending on the topic and the situation I am in.
Like right now I have to start another house cleaning session this is never ending when you have a Dog in the house. Not a cleaning fanatic but I do not like to see dirty floors while I am sitting here so I get up clean and if I have a chance maybe just maybe I chat a little longer.
But its very nice to keep in touch with everyone yes but I have a Dog that pesters the life out of you all the time here he is now nudging me with his head.xxx

I can understand your compulsions. It is not always possible to come here regularly, we all have our off line commitments. It is good that you are faster in typing as well as while conversing.

You have no hesitation in admitting that your typing speed is not so good and if a person wants to chat on line with you s/he may get restless.
How do you type. Do you see the alphabets on the key board and then type?
You could improve upon, if you wish to.

There is no hard and fast rule that one needs to use 'shortcuts' while chatting. If am on my PC, I prefer typing the entire words instead of shortcuts.
It does not matter if any other mylotter has responded or has posted his comments before you, irrespective of S.No. on which your response appears, that also counts.

Well, often it depends on how quick you are needing a response, and the amount of Free time you have to respond back as well. I consider myself to be pretty fast compared to what I used to be considering I am online when I can, and also on a computer typing in stuff at work all the time. But there are people that do take a while to respond back, unless you are like my husband who tends to use Voice command with his phone or tablet.

Hello dpk. I agree that a good typing speed for chatting is somewhat very important, especially when you chat with quite a few different people at the same time if you are chatting in a group, but individually. My typing speed is satisfactory to me, but not when chatting with more than four people at the same time. Take care.

I haven't really chatted in a long time live, but when I do, I am usually patient. I have had a couple of friends that were very slow. I usually open another tab and browse or do something else while waiting. I am by no means a rocket when typing..average speed I guess..but my train of thought...oh my..now that is a different story. Thank goodness for tabs.

Hi Dpk,
If the friend is chatting with more than one person, certainly some of his/her responds might be a bit slow i.e. during multi chatting. LOL.
I don't think so i keep waiting my friends with slow in responding, rather i'm fast with my replies and queries.
If my friends take a long time to respond then i pretend they are busy and don't nag(lol) them again.

Yes, you are right if there are more than one person 'on line' then the speed will get reduced. I think, if this is the case we should inform our chat mate that we are talking with others also.

I am glad to tell you that I have a good typing speed. I felt it is really difficult as well as irritating to chat with a one who is really slow. Most of the times I just used to end chats who are too slow becuase I have to wait a long time and it will waste my time.

Before I feel so annoyed when I was about to chat with my online friends, I wrote a lot but then it takes time for them to reply back on me. Now, I am not bothered anymore because instead of waiting for their response idly, I will look or perform my online earnings. That would be a multitasking and so a very beneficial time with me.

Thanks for kick starting the post. I appreciate your approach that if a friend is taking time to respond on a chat window, we could meanwhile attend to other on line activities i.e. mylotting etc.
However, switching between sites/chat window loses one's rhythm and concentration from the issue.

My typing speed is excellent I can say- due to my previous work that needs excellency when it comes to multi- tasking.
But, sorry- because I don't like chatting.

I don't think that spee is as necessary to chitting as accuracy. too mucvh can be ,lost if rds are micinstruedl, speed in typing does help get the conversation going along though,@dpk262006 (58676)

I chat to many friends at the same time most of the time but if I am really busy I excuse myself cause even I can chat with them while doing some work there are times I need to concentrate on my work than chatting with me.

It is OK if you chat to number of friends at a given point of time. Only thing is they should know that there are more than one friends on line.

I have a few friends who, like me, are trained typists. Talking with them is a pleasure because they type almost as quickly as they speak. If I see that they are typing I know it will not be a long wait. However for non-typists this is a different story and it is rather tiresome to wait for their lengthy responses with lots of typing mistakes. I don't mind the typing mistakes of course, but I think they would be better off sending emails in which they can take their time to type but which will come through to me later complete and quickly.
Having said that I am amazed when I watch people flashing across the keyboard with two fingers! But they are usually very young ones.
It is well worth teaching yourself to touch type because it is a great advantage with the keyboard and it does lend itself to greater accuracy.

It is good to hear that you and your friends are trained typist and you do not feel any problem while chatting. It is correct for non-typist it is a different ball game and they take time to type and send message.

i do agree with need to have good typing speed for chatting but i am one of the people who cannot type fast. or maybe can say everything of mine is more to slow motion. when chatting online i always hope for quick reply so i wont feel wasting the time but problem is my speed is slow and respond slow so i always will feel my online friend is waiting for my reply, and i feel sorry to make him wait. though i wish to improve my typing speed, but i am fail to do so right now. but lucky i had join mylot and all these respond to discussion more or less had help me a little bit on typing so i am happy to be part of here. though i am still slow and take time to respond but i will try my best to repond to mylotters post. thanks mylot.

I wasn't very fast after a typing class in middle school, but through online chatting, my speed improved considerably! It was the best motivation for a socialite teenager to learn typing!
