Heaven and Hell are a condition of our lives. It is a state of being and mind. Why do you have to die, to receive all the rewards that can be achieved in life, with independent, motivated, unrestricted hard work? That's why when you don't have food, you say you're hungry as hell. When you don't have heat, you are cold as hell. When you don't have money, you are broke as hell. And when you don't think for yourself, you are dumb as hell. Heaven belongs to those who deserve it, by working for it, not by dying for it.

Justice:
I have to disagree with you. Heaven is/will be an actual place. It is not merely a state of mind as you suggest. The Bible plainly teaches that there is a heaven and that NO man deserves to be there. The Bible also says that you do not get to heaven by working for it and doing good things. You are saved from hell by your belief and acceptance of Christ's grace.

deedee is right about the Bible's teaching and that none of us deserve to go to heaven because we have broken and are continually falling short of God's 10 commandments, the law that He gave to Moses. The idea of presenting us with a standard like this was so that we realised how short we fall. That is why Jesus came to tell us the rest of the plan which is that salvation is by faith, not by works, so that no man can boast.

Please read the Bible. All the answers are there. I'll tell you a trick. Try to ask God these things, with all your heart. You know, like trying to find someone really important to you? Talk to Him that way, seek Him, and you shall find Him. Then secondly, open the Bible at random pages. Read a verse that seems to magnify itself in your eyes, keep on reading, reading, then there! While you are at it, I am sure all your questions in life will be answered, even the hardest ones we humans cannot. Focus on it with your heart, not with your brain. And also, pray first before reading it, ask Gd for protection. The devil might whisper wrong insights on your ears.
But my answer basically is that I believe in Heaven and Hell. They are real. I have just seen too much of God's awesomeness to doubt Him, to doubt the Holy Bible. :D

At the present time neither of them seem real to us because they are in a dimension other than ours. From what I understand from the Bible the world we live in is a kind of shadow of the heaven waiting for us. So if we think of the sun warming and lighting and bringing life to the earth, then we can imagine that heaven is a place where the Son of God brings love and light and life to those who go there. Jesus said that he was going to prepare a place for us in heaven and that it had many rooms or dwelling places there. So heaven feels a little more real when we imagine a home there prepared just for us.
If we think about the best and loveliest things in this world and imagine that heaven will be all this and much more than we can imagine then that helps to make heaven real.
As far as hell is concerned, I imagine that it is all the worst that we see in the world and much worse than we can imagine. The important thing is that we settle the question here on earth about where we will spend eternity. If we make a place for Jesus in our lives then he will make a place for us in heaven.
