Yup, it's that time of year. Don't be shocked, but I'm allergy to fresh durian. I love them, and the smell is good, but I just can't eat them fresh, or else my throat and mouth will start getting itchy and swollen. So Mom will usually make me durian porridge, or any kind of bean porridge with durian.

I also love durian. It is one of the trademarks of our city here in the Philippines. It's interesting to know that your durian season falls on December. Here, it is usually in August or September. But since there are already a lot of durian growers nowadays, there are already durian available all year round. Just that the prices are different. It is really much cheaper during it's season. It could even go as low as $0.50 per kilo or even at $0.38 from the farms. But if it's not in season, it could go as high as $6.50 per kilo. Davao locals would not buy if it's going high. It's usually the tourists who buy them on off peaks. But it's just good to know that we still have something to offer though it is off season.

Yeah durian is also our trademark here. It is king of fruit here. When it is durian season durian will be cheap. 1 durian fruit is MYR 5 and some sell MYR 3,for us here it is very cheap. When it is not durian season the price will be higher around MYR 10 to MYR 20 for 1 durian.

do you also have different varieties? my favorite here is what they call "arancillo". but whatever the variety as long as it is durian, i am sure it will always be yummy.
But I know for some especially those from outside our city, does not like the smell. That is why they refuse to taste it. But once they tasted, they will surely love it already.

Just by reading your discussion as well as the responses and comments, it made me think of how delicious durian fruit is. I miss it. Durian is now scarce this month. It's already expensive because we can find only a few fruits of durian being sold at fruit stands here in our place. I guess from the month of July till october there were lots of durian fruits and the price was much cheaper.

That's really true. I have one durian tree at the back of our house. It bore fruits but when the fruits were still young there were lots of them but they just fell and I don't know the cause. In the end, there were only 4 fruits left and these were what we had eaten.

Yeah when it's time for durian season the seller will sell it with cheap price. We dont want to buy if not durian season because durian in that time is expensive.

I am living in one of the Asian countries. I have been eating durian since I was a kid. I had always liked how it taste and I can never have enough of it. That time when I was kid, my dad always buy like fifteen durians back home and open them up and put all the durian fruit into a container. As he finished opening all those durian, all of us would stuck all those durians into our mouth. Sometimes we could not finish them and we would fridge the durians and eat finish them off the next day. I wonder if the western countries does have durian?

A few months ago at work I was about to leave for the day. All of
A sudden, I smelled what I thought was a gas leak. So I called the hospital police.
Before they could make it to my department, my coworker came forward and let us know that
She had eaten durian at lunch the day before and forgot to bring home the bowl.
After that, I told her that I wanted to try it do a few weeks later she brought some it for
Lunch and I sampled it. To me it tasted like a mild creamy garlicky onion. I'd love to try it again.

AAAAARGGHH! The dreaded Durian! Can any fruit smell as bad as this one? When I visit Vietnam, my nieces used to tease me with it because they Know I don't like it. I have tried it and have to say, it tastes nothing like it smells like! However, I will give it a miss thanks.
Once in Vietnam, my niece asked me to try some ice cream and when I did, she laughed so much because it was Durian Ice cream. I never trusted her again!
We see some in the Chinese food shops, here in England but they can stay there too..LOL

I have never had Durian. I don't even know what it looks like. Our local stores in Northern Michigan don't carry these exotic types of fruits. We will sometimes get star fruit or avacdoes, but never Durian. I have heard of Durian, but I have never seen it, touched it or tasted it. I would like to sample different fruits, because I just might like them. I also wonder what Jack fruit would taste like.

Many people (especially western) do not like durian for both, smell and texture. The smell is so strong. Only my younger son like durian, but he is not such a big fan either. The older one and myself do not like it. My husband likes it. It's all different for different people.

Oh! My family's tried this twice before in Canada. We didn't know what to make of it the first time. Isn't this the fruit that has a ban on being opened in public, somewhere?
To me, it tastes a bit like a sweet omelette, not bad, but strange and interesting. I'm really curious about tempoyak and the candies now, because we've only been able to find the fruit when we lived in the city. I'll try different recipes with it next time I can find one.

I love love durian! It's so yummy. It's a very unique fruit. So hard & thorny on the outside but soft in the inside.
Not everyone likes it though, because of it's awful smell.
