I basically don't do a lot of downloading on my pc. My son who is also with comcast is always downloading movies and mucic and hasn't had a problem with them. I don't think they can tell when and how much you download and it's really none of their business.

Well, it's actually their business and they can know if they want to. Some ISP companies even monitor what their users downloading, because some people are caught downloading pirates movie/games/etc.. and been reported. It's just the matter of your IP is flagged or not.

It depends whether your ISP lets you have unlimited downloads, or whether there is a limit, you should be able to check it out on your terms and conditions when you first started with your ISP. I have Sky Broadband Unlimited. However they do monitor your downloads, especially if you are downloading music and movies etc. You can hide your IP address, but it still monitored.

I agree with your statement. Your ISP should allow you to have access to the terms and conditions for using their Internet service. Depending on your subscription for Internet service, your ISP might limit your bandwidth on engaging on certain online activities. So it's always good just to contact your ISP before doing something that might result in some later consequences.

Hi MoonGypsy, I always do my best to download movies. I hate to have lots of movies downloading in my pc. It's messy My elder brother like to download manga for his son who is busy with his work in outstation. This is to save his time as he can watch his favorite manga after his hard work to get refreshed. My brother never complain about anything about the downloading often, therefore I don't think he would have such problem from his isp at all.
Happy posting

nowadays too many things happen for downloading movies often,so we must restrict ourself with a limit

Yeah, for some countries it is and some are not. For example in my country, the internet piracy thing is just beginning and they are not restricting too much from us. Some countries i heard that they are monitoring most downloads for pirate and China i heard they censored most of the stuff.

Some service providers will limit your access to their services if you're using more than your fair share of the available bandwidth. My parents used to be with a satellite broadband company that gave them only 300MB of usage every day. Any time they went over that limit, the connection would get extremely slow and they would barely be able to load regular web sites like myLot, never mind any media content.
I'm inclined to agree with Lamb's assessment, though. Your brother was probably downloading illegal copies of movies, and that's why the provider decided to terminate his connection. They don't want the to be held liable for copyright infringers downloading illegal files with their networks, so they will just terminate the users' service rather than risk being sued for the activity by copyright holders.

Yeah, the connection are slow because of the Fair Usage policy most ISP had. They will provide certain amount of connection and all users that reach their quota would share the same connection.

You are a subscriber of Comcast which is the number one Cable Company in the US. You don't need to worry about anything. Your Internet plan will be an unlimited plan and you can download as much as you can. Service provider never shuts off your Internet services for excessive Internet usage.
So download as much as you can and enjoy.

I don't think he was shut off for downloading. There must be some other reason. He either hasn't paid his bill, or he has limits on how much bandwidth he has. I have had Comcast for many years, and the only time I've been shut off is when I haven't paid the bill on time.

Comcast does slow down bittorrent users who pirate movies, but it's not good if they slow down your connection if you don't illegally download.

I think that the discontinuation of IP address might have nothing to do with the downloading. There may be some different reason. But most of the internet service providers do take actions on too much downloading. The general actions are reduction in speed, restricted bandwidth, reduction in the number of ports etc. But discontinuation of IP address is quite uncommon and I guess it's also a violations of consumer rights.

Well I just want to know that is there a limitation on your brother's internet? If no then I think that company is wrong definitely, your brother can sue for that.
As for me,my internet without any limitation so I can download as much as I need, and that is my right.

I think they have the right to discontinue his ip address. Some internet connections have limits of download. Maybe your brother exceeded his limit that's why his IP address was disabled by his provider.

Comcast has a threshold of 250 gigs of memory a month unless you are on a business line. So that is the only way he could get your ip disconnected. Your welcome.

Maybe it depends on the overall strength of the connection in your area... If the downloading was somehow slowing down the speed of the connection for other customers in the area, then that might be a reason for the termination. You could always call them and ask your specific question or look at the terms and policies regarding your plan.
Were the movies being downloaded legally or illegally? That might make a difference here...

We have Comcast, and I don't know if they shut you down for too much downloading, but they do ask when signing up if you download a lot to purchase a more expensive plan. So if they were probably trying force your brother to upgrade To the more expensive package.

I won't say too much movies. But i do a lot of downloading on the net. You just have to make the best pick when subscribing to ISP. If you do a lot of downloading, you should choose the unlimited package, and don't misunderstood the "unlimited", it means that you would have unlimited internet access, but it will slow down based on fair internet usage policy. Meaning you will have to share the internet connection with other subscriber when you reach certain quota. I don't understand this either, but it's their policy.

Hi friend, i don't think the company disconnected the internet connection for too much downloads, may be your brother don't pay the bill properly. I am not interested in downloading a lot of movies, i will download whenever necessary

Service provider should never do that. Customer must get what they paid for, if we always pay the bill then its our rights to use their service for anything we like,,
