Being in love in a younger age, probably primary or secondary level it is classified as puppy love. Why can we just say baby love or love of your life. What do you think?

I like to go with first love, or love in training.

It was called puppy love because a person who is in love that way has the fondness to another person as that of a puppy...very affectionate. This affection however is mostly associated with young individuals who either have strong affection to another young individual or to an adult.

It is a rare case to finally think that puppy love will be serious in the long run. Some instances, childhood friend can be their partner and learning it is a serious thing.

Well, its because its not baby love - that's loving babies or babies loving others and love of your life is something way more serious than "puppy love." "Puppy love" means that someone who really hasn't experienced much of life thinks they are in true love, but they can't really understand the difference between something that's between family love and friend love. The child loves someone, wants to spend time with them, but can't really understand the full ramifications of more than just spending time that love sometimes requires.

In younger age, they tend to be vulnerable. I agree they mistakenly thinking that being in love is not that serious concerning their age.

Well, if I'm encouraging to me this question: Why is it puppy love? I do not know at all to answer! On the one hand because I have never been in love and therefore never been involved in a romantic relationship. Secondly, the word "puppy", in my country (Italy), is not used. I have not ever heard from anyone.

When I was in High School, parents are telling us that puppy love won't last forever, it can be a feeling of infatuation.

The reason why it's called puppy love because that is what it is like when you fall in love with a cute animal. It's not the real deal of true love nor the love of your life most of the time. Because some times your true love the one that you will always love might not happen or be around you when your younger some times it takes some time and to fall in love with others to really find out what love really is.

Baby love would be a nice term for this, too. But I understand why it's called puppy love. Because puppies have to learn a lot about the world, and it may not be as deep as a lover than what adults feel.

It is a weird concept I agree being associated to a young dog when in love! They also used to say when I was younger if you were fat, it was puppy fat. How can it be puppy fat, when you are a human! I guess puppy is associated with 'cute' so it's classed as cute when you are young and in love.

Maybe it's because we are loving our puppies. That is why they are comparing the love at younger age into puppy love

Hi Shavkat: English is not my mother tongue so I actually didn't know they call it this way. Probably in this expression they are making a relation between the "innocence" and "inexperience" of a first lover with the attitude of a puppy ALVARO

Honestly I didn't even know the tern used is this as local people here use other term to describe the love between youngsters. Since it's a love at the young age maybe that is why they called it that way.(^^)

Because it's something new, and it wont last. Just like loving a puppy many are in love with the puppy at first, then with time it fades away, and they want something new.

Why not kitty love, pony love, chicks love???? Sounds weirder. I think "young love" sounds most appropriate. We are not animals after all.

Puppy love is common for young people who don't have a full grasp, knowledge and acquired wisdom of an adult who has had many experience regarding the issue. It's an immature kind of love, but it's love and a good experience to learn from. I read that it's called puppy because this kind of love is often seen when we are so engrossed with the cuddly animal, we don't care about the bad things a puppy does, we forgive the puppy anyway and love him even more. Every part of the puppy we find adorable. it's as if the puppy can do no wrong, simply perfect and easy to love.

This is based on emotional and physical needs. Some times it may withstand emotional turmoil or other related difficulties. But a mature love is one that will last and it comes when you are physically and emotionally mature.

I never know the word "puppy love" before. Thanks for sharing it, and now I have learned something new, it's interesting. I look up in the dictionary and it has many sayings about it: puppy love, calf love, fall in love at an early age, children love. Have a nice day, friend.

Yes you are right why do they call it puppy love. Why do people always try to relate people with animals. Sometimes it is quite offensive.
