I was driving to work the other morning. Now, its winter here and when cars, and trucks, start in the morning, you can see the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe. So, I was sitting behind a truck and looking at its exhaust. It was pretty still so the exhaust was just kind of hanging around in the air where the truck put it out and as I watched, that tailpipe was every so often putting out smoke rings. Smoke RINGS! I remember when my dad smoked he could blow smoke rings, but a TRUCK? I laughed and enjoyed the smoke ring show until both the truck and myself could finally turn and get on with our various trips. I have never seen a truck or car blow smoke rings, have you?

Oh how I wish you could have got a picture of that one! Sounds hysterical and it would have given me my laugh for the day, which this is.

I would'a been cool to catch a pix, but I was facing into the sun so I doubt my phone would'a caught it well.

Can't say as I have ever seen a vehicle blow smoke rings. Lots of smoke, yes, but not in any artistic manner.

I have too, but when we were at the previous light I thought I saw a ring, so I was watching for it at the next light and I saw about 6 or 8 of them. I think the truck was kind of hard idling so there would be a short break in the exhaust and then a ring.

I wonder if the driver was aware of it.

I do too. Yesterday driving back from Maggie's I saw one tiny cloud, but it looked like a stylized dolphin leaping.

I one time saw what looked like an army led by chariots in a bank of clouds, lit by the setting sun, very awesome. I like to look at clouds when I'm in a plane and think they are the land and little clouds are ships sailing in the sea.

I kid you not, when I saw it I thought "I've got to tell my friends on mylot!" and then "I wonder if they'll believe me?" But I think I have a rep for being honest, so I put it here!

What a wonderful view! It seems to be the first time you watched those huge smoking rings come out of the tailpipe of a truck.I reckon there must be a lot of sightings on your way to work, which more or less relieve a dull time when you get stuck in the traffic.

They weren't that huge, it was only a pick up truck, but it was amusing. My commute isn't that far, just too far to walk (unlike my roomie's that is just across the house.) I listen to the news on the way to work, so it isn't that dull either, but it did brighten up my day a bit.

Yeah, we use unleaded gas, I don't know if this truck was using diesel or not, some do and some don't.

I wonder if you must use unleaded petrol and the diesel must have catalytic converters so as to remove lead from the exhaust. It is good for your health that you try to amuse yourself by finding something, even on the way to work.

I agree, that would be quite the funny picture. I can't imagine a truck actually blowing smoke rings. I know a smoker can do it, like in the Lord of the Rings, with Gandalf and Bilbo, but a truck is completely out of the ordinary. Haha that is quite the experience! :D

I have talked with the Lamb and he suggested it was idling rough, so it'd kind of build up the exhaust and then "puff" it out. And since the tail pipe was round it was making rings.

Its unique, probably won't happen for me to ever see it.

I think that makes sense but I don't know about cars so I have to take his word on it.

Actually thinking back, I can remember seeing one that could. I often wonder if they are able to do something special to make it do that. It is interesting when you see this, and a lot better than just seeing exhaust and fumes coming from a car or truck and hope that they notice from the smell, or something.

I think it had to do with the hard idle, but I doubt they'll smell anything...

Wow! I've never seen a vehicle blow smoke rings before. That's interesting. I wonder what else it could blow? I read this to my husband, and he and I both wonder if there might not have been something stuck in the exhaust pipe, that made it do that. Hmmm... Good title for this post. :)

Lambie and I think it was idling rough because I noticed there was always a little break in the exhaust before it made a smoke ring. If the pipe was round, and I'm pretty sure it was, then the puff and the round pipe could'a done it.

I hadn't ever seen it before and I guess you kind of notice that I do pay attention to what's going on around me, so if I hadn't seen it before, it probably isn't common.

Well, you may have noticed that this year is a bad flu season, started early, started hard. I hear Austin has a lot of flu, but I haven't seen that much where I've been.

Good morning Elic, My Granny could blow smoke rings. I have never seen a car or truck blow smoke rings. I think it is very cool that vehicles can blow smoke rings.

I see that all the time here during the winter, normally at stop signs, or lights when the car is ideling. My Dad tried explaining it, but something to do with a loose part or something along those lines.

That is pretty incredible. I have never seen such a thing either. I wonder how that even happens. Perhaps the right about of air coming out? I'm glad you had a nice memory from it though.

I don't think they did, just that the truck was idling kind of heavy and there'd be a short break in the exhaust and then a smoke ring.

I wish I could've too, but I was face into the rising sun, so I probably would've just gotten a lot of white instead of the smoke rings

That's kind of funny... I've never seen that either. Come to think of it, isn't that how smoke blows out of exhaust pipes in cartoons? I guess I was just thinking of it as something that happens in cartoons but doesn't actually happen in reality. Like people slipping on banana peels.

No I can't say that I have, but in my case if I had seen that I would have gotten ut my IPhone & taken a video of it for like Klip, SocialCam, or Veetle. Maybe all three, because I have to admit that would be pretty cool to see.

I was facing into the rising sun, so I doubt I could've caught the shot, and I never thing of using the video function on my phone since my old phone didn't have a video function.
