Since the proliferation of pirated DVDs, lesser and lesser people are seeing movies on theatres. This results in loss of revenues for theatres and moviemakers, thus explaining why not so many mainstream Pilipino movies that have A-rated stories and qualities, since the mostly female populations come out in drove during Christmas filmfests.
Also the changes in the way theatres show movies turned off a lot of Pinoy moviegoers. Usually you can go see any movies anytime since they are shown continuously. Now you can only view a movie once and you have to be in the theatre at exact time of the screening. Some Pinoy moviegoers want to see a good movie twice and doesnt want the hussle of waiting if they bought a ticket earlier or getting late if the movie already started.
There are Indie movies which help in a way to revive the movie industry, but it seems Pinoys are not keen on seeing movies without high budgets or stars in them, even though they are well done and praised internationally. Example of this kind of movie is Bwakaw.

that is true... Alot of people have access to dvds and even downloaded movies from internet... But i think the movie industry now is still steiving and is a hit especially for movies that are talked about. We have to admit that often there are people who preferred movie houses because its better to be there watching with suround sound... And movie going is one of the best acivities families do and partners do as well.

Hello Chiyosan, when Video City became one of our renters last year I was so happy because I could finally buy those movies that takes months to come out of the DVD pirate. if it did came out it doesn't show some good quality of the video. better off watching it at home, where you are safe. have a nice day

You may think you are benefitting but if you think more you will understand that in the long run this is not good, because when movie outfits dont earn well, they close shop or stops making quality movies. In the future we may see movies so badly done as majority rather than minority.

Hello greenpeas, because the cost of theaters has gone up, the last time I went to the theater tickets cost only 48Php or a dollar. now, it cost more than 20$, if it's new screen it would cost a lot more. besides, I had a bad experience the last time I went to a movie theater, I was followed by a young crook who kept looking at me even in the rest room. when I realized what he was doing i quickly decided to walk FAST back to the seats with my brother. I'd never go to theaters, i prefer to wait for the DVD for me to rent it.

As far as i know that is very true because when it used to be in the childhood many and myself, friends relative we used to go to the movie hall atleast once in a week and mostly 3 times in a month for sure.
But now as the count of DVD started increasing people are feeling bored and they want to get everything at the comfort of their home and dont want to waste more money and they feel that movies are just a way to entertainment .So ideally their taste and trend have started changing and not only that ,in a way if you see basically now most of the movies are getting screened directly in DTH or at times in channels within short time and more cinema halls except suave and sophisticated ones are shutting down basically because they need to spend so much money for electricity and support staff.
I really doubt about the future of movies since it is heading down the barrel and if this trend continues movie makers will suffer a serious loss and this is alarming and harming the generation for sure.
Some movies need to be given credit not only in film festivals but use of stylish mechanism and also the latest 3d technology of music and video can enthrall audience and make them flock to the theatre in huge number and also the cost can be reduced.
I hope that in a way it gets back to the position very soon and moviegoers enjoy a lot in multiplex and they must be screened only in cinema hall alone.

You just stated the primary reasons why people are not anymore going to movie theaters nowadays.
Personally, I cannot anymore watch movie in theaters because primarily because of the high price and lack of time.
I would sometimes watch movies on TV if I have time. Although there are still times that I devote time watching movies with my children but very seldom.

The reason why there has been a lease sale in the movie theatre industry it’s because there are some ways and means that people can watch movies with the use of digital devices. Most especially the internet, wherein there are streaming sites that caters its audience frees movie viewing.
Moreover, piracy leads in putting low sales in the movie market. Because they make pirated copies on movies that are yet to be shown on cinemas, this has been a big trouble in the media industry because more and more people settle on buying pirated dvd movies rather than buying a movie ticket mainly because the price really differs but such products should not be tolerated because it does not abide the law.

I've also noticed that. And it happens may be because the price of the tickets on the cinemas became higher. Because in my country, the current price of the tickets in the cinemas was around 130php. Unlike before that it was just only 80php.

Things changed in terms of watching movies. There are a lot of ways to obtain the movies, internet or DVDs from the shops. Some prefer to watch at home rather falling in line. It will really lessen the population going to the cinemas. In terms of new international films, people would love to watch them as usual compared to the local movies.

I dont know if I should agree to this, but, yeah pirates are the reason why there is lesser and lesser watching on some cinemas but we cant accused them because if the people will not buy any pirated cds then, they are not going to sell it,
Hi, i love watching movies though cinemas specially when i was winth my girlfriend, and we seem that the cinema was alwya full, i guess it is depends on what movie did you watch, and what place, cos at other malls, they still have tons of custumers wanted to watchmovies though cine

i would like to watch indie films too if given the chance. its only quite inconvenient to watch them because they arent accessible to most people and its more convenient to see movies at the mall.
i agree with moviegoers becoming less and less because going to the movies is quite expensive and the imposed one time screening rule has made it less practical. people would rather see movies at the comfort of their homes at their own convenient time without spending do much with pirated dvds
its quite sad that people do this as they dont see the harm this is bringing to the movie industry. were already seeing the effects like having low budgets for films because the artists arent making as much money in movies as they did before. its sad that we expect high quality but arent willing to give up what we have for it. one day, filipinos will feel the the damage but hopefully when they do realize it, its not yet too late.
