it is difficult to teach when it you don't know the language. But it is challenging for me, I thought of different ways on how I will teach my students. First, I used games, they say it is best way to retain to students’ minds. Hmmmm this is quite not effective because I am the only one who speaks English here, though they have Thai English teacher, too. I have thought of using dictionary and students will be searching for the word in dictionary, write in Khmer and use in the sentence. Just students don’t understand even if this is the set up however, I know through building vocabulary this strategy helps. Now I am presenting to you the newest teaching style that I have figured out and seems effective. I write the lessons in English have a dictionary and ask someone in the class to write in their language. Whoo hoot.. finalllllllllllllllllllly… I hope this one is good. Simple sentence, simple answer…
I learned from them too. I tell the statement in English.. and tell in Thai.. and ask the students if I say it right and understood what I meant. So far so good.
I learned from them too, I asked them what the specific word in Thai Language is and they can identify and I will learn the word in Thai too. I know they know what I mean. Yeeepeeee free learning of language. to reinforce I will show pictures and ask them what is it all about in prasaa Thai.. (Thai Language) and angrit… (English)
Khao Chai Mai? Do you understand?

@Mavic123456 That's a good way to teach and learn. Very clever!
I don't know if I saw this on a TV show or movie, I really forget but I saw a teacher who was trying to teach her student Spanish by places cards with Spanish words on items around the house. Like every day things. Like the door would have a card on it, so every time the student walked past the door, she would see the card and start to remember what door was in Spanish.
I thought that was a cool way to get someone to learn a different language.

@VivaLaDani13 Thai language is very difficult to master, they are so tonal. a single word will mean different the way the speaker says the word.

@Mavic123456 I had to take Japanese lessons when I was in primary school. I still know a very little bit of it. Was fun to try and learn it.

Oo kaunti lang. Not sure what I said or even what language it is. I hope I didn't swear at you. I'm not very good at this. How about ai mengerti. Is that right? Maybe you better get Aka to translate. I think I'm confusing Malay language with Thai. Or maybe Indonesian with....something.

Sometime i watch Thailand drama. I know a little bit Thai language. Deazil Thai language very very different with Malay and Indo language but Filipino language a little similar with Malay and Indo. Some of their words same and have same meaning. If Malay or Indo i can translate it but i not very know about Thai language.

Your right games is one way if not the best method to teach student. As a person, it is inherent in our blood to find playmates if not play as we imagine what we want to portray, so if you knew how to apply it in teaching for the interest is at peak and easy to absorved. Teaching is also learning specialy if you knew how to enterpolate.

of course yes,its really hard to teach students who have different language but its a challenge for you,its like teaching students who are special where student are deaf and mute students,so teaching in different country is a really hard because of the barrier language.

Hi,
Your method of teaching is very good. Explaining language in their mother tongue would be very effective. You are honest teacher and trying to teach your students within your heart. You must be favorite teacher of the student. Yes, I khao cahi mai.

I understand what you feel right now. I also taught English language long time before, it is really a challenge specially if they are in the basic level. But that's the challenge, so methods that you have shared are effective in transferring the English skills to the students. You can also have some picture or photos and ask them to create a sentence out of it. In some occasion, I used to facilitate to make a short story as they looked the pictures. It is so amazing that almost all the students will participate in the class. These were the old days of being a teacher; I've been missing it after moving forward to the next level of my career. Though I still continue imparting the teaching skills, for those people who have the interest of learning the language. Like you, I had learned some other languages too while interacting with them.

Shav your suggestions are great i have those too sometimes i even act it lteaching is like a performing task lol. i hope i will to the level when my students can tell stories. this is a dream once i dreamed that my students sing an english song the old teacher said "no they can't remember the lines they are too long"'. i said "i will just try if not ok then i will stop" i won't push through after 3
months students perform in front of their mothers during the "mother's day program"'. they sang and performed well.
