Does music change your mood sometimes?

i just thought about this, haha and well of course mylot if the first i share my idea...
Honestly rarely do i feel that music would change my mood from it being good and happy to suddenly leaving me to feel irritated. Usually when I am in a bad mood, most of the cases If i need to just uplift my feelings, I would be playing a song that I liked to sing, or to hear.
However A while ago, I was not in a really good or bad mood - just normal and then I have heard a song that was sung by someone I do not like - yeah and upon hearing the song, I suddenly had a feeling I am irritated! haha
Has this ever happened to you? Would you care to share songs that would irritate you?

I do love listening to love songs and of course new wave music. But what irritates me are songs that have either been "Tagalized" (Filipino version) or those Filipino songs done by Lito Camo. I don't think they make any sense at all. And the reason why they become popular is because of the very common melody and for the masses lyrics. I'd be having goosebumps as soon as I hear those songs.

Well I can agree on you with this, I often would be hearing such songs then think, what??! Am i hearing correctly? ha ha so yeah they have been tagalized alright so that is irritating indeed. I hope these people would have the decency to just make their own songs and not just translate an existing song. That is just lack of talent, right?

Thesr songwriters want to take advantage of the.popularity of the English version and make use of whimsical lyrics , then instant success. Well, i hate to rain on their parade, but I am in no way impressed with that.

Hi chiyosan,
To me, music is like remedy or meds for my mood, everyday I will listen to music, it lifts up my mood, I started dreaming I was the singer's best pal, and all imagination like what in movie will cross my mind. But now it has gone, music is just a relax tool for me, whenever I feel there is no ummph...for the day I will switch on my radio and hear 80s famous songs. Dude, it really makes me happy, remind me of my childhood best moments like friends and family. I think you are normal, like everyone of us here. Don't worry.

Hi wongchoiyee, i am glad that music for you is like a medicine, but of course i would like to think that its only a vitamin and that you are very well - you just need sustenance, with the help of some vitamins and supplements in the form of the music we hear. =)

Music as it is, really makes one feel the groove and the rhythm of your body's senses, feeling emotions far beyond your control as triggered by a special song that really captures your attention. i guess yours would only reflect what you don't in terms of the type of music you hate, lol!

It never change my mood, but intensify the feelings I already have. Which is good enough, in my opinion :)
When I feel blue, I have the need to be totally depressed for an evening. This makes me better the other day. I am not the kind who hide her feelings or try to change the bad ones by thinking at something else. It's just not working like this for me.
So I have my songs and albums that make me cry, because I empathize with the lyrics.
Greek music instead always gives me energy and makes me happy.

Hi mary, hmm.. that can also be the case, like when you are feeling good, then any good music would be able to make you feel better. =)
That is true, often for me too, what i do is listen to some songs for no reason at all... sing along with any of the songs i feel gives a very good meaning... same as you, that is really great that you are able to feel more the lyrics of the song. =)
I am not familiar with greek music, but if you could share a few links? Thank you so much!

Well i caan agree to this, of course words get into our minds, and our hearts and with songs, both the music or the melody touches our being and even so, our minds are tickled by the words most songs presents to us because we can totally relate to them. =)

I like listening to music, its my stress reliever and i can listen to most genre but punk rock and hard core metal is really not my type, it is very irritating to my ears and yes it will make me mad at the person playing it or i simply will walk away from that noisy sound, why is some of the people listen to those? i mean they blast your eardrums right?

Hi andak! i think its okay for me to hear such a type of music but i would be irritated if, and when i find someone playing it and it is disturbing me already. I would really not want this. Anyhow, i think i can leave with such a music genre - so long as it is not me listening to it. he he

Music almost always lifts my mood. There is some music that is irritating to me but I will usually change the station and go to something else I like. I especially love when it is a sing-a - long song, that is fun. Or when it takes you back to another time, like when I listen to some of the music my parents used to like and it reminds me of them as they are no longer with me. They both loved music and that is probably why I like music so much too. I like several types of genres so it keeps music listening interesting, that is for sure

hi there july! :D thank you for your response to the discussion. You are correct here, we often wonder where the composers and writers are getting the lyrics in the songs they write, but I would agree with you on this, actually. they are only speaking for themselves, and their thoughts and their feelings so each song we like seemed like talking to souls. :D
I think it is very unlikely that one would never associate with even 1 song... I mean, almost every chapter of my life, i can associate a song in my life, and wonder is this song created for me?! hehe

The composer of every song started to a so called POEM form, they write it with a rhythm and then followed by the cords. I have a closed friend who play music and also a composer. He said, when his mind is in good condition he can write a songs base on his experience and thinking on that moments

Well I must say that in my case, music has absolutely no effect on my mood.
Maybe enough for a good song to listen to me up the mood when I'm feeling "down"!
I'm not even that much fond of music. Only several songs the 80's or 90's years I still listen to today, with pleasure!
However, I think your discussion has a foundation, as I've heard of people that music helps them to feel better psychologically.

hi there, thank you alberello for your very honest response to the discussion. I guess it depends on the person, some can relate to music and actually have a song or two help them feel better, and sometimes for other people, they can actually feel better with other hobbies, lie sports to make them feel alright.

Music helps me to get in the mood sometimes too. I usually listen to old songs that I could sing along and it helps me release some stress. There was once in a news about cowfarm that the owner is playing classical music to his cows and it helps them feel relax and they said that the meat were much tastier becuase of it. I don't know how true but certainly music is a stress reliver.

thank you vernaC. sometimes old songs are really nice to hear and it gives you a very good mood. =) Oh yeah... I have heard about how great classical musics are, but not for cows, i have heard that it is good for mothers who would let their babies hear classical songs, and most of them would appear to be more intelligent and alert.

oh yes, that is right... when you are unable to concentrate, that is so much better when you find yourself a good song to listen to. of course it is hard to listen to songs that are upbeat when your intentions are to concentrate and to keep your mind on track.

One song that really gets in to my nerves is the OPPA GANGNAM STYLE.
I don't know why, but I find it really strange that a song that cannot be inderstood suddenly becomes a hit - with its non sense arrival and appeal.
Shifting from one mood to another with the influence of music is something scientific. In fact, most people with depressive disorders are being treated through varied therapies including music therapy and art sessions.
Personally, I like listening to loud and rock bands everytime I feel sad. And likewise, if I am happy, I like listening to mellow music. It has become a neutralizer for me, I guess. :)

Depending on the kind of music you listen to. But there have been scientific studies that show certain kinds of music or to be more specific.
Some songs Such as sad songs will make me quiet and think about sad thing's in my past or make up thing's that never really happened or a happy song will make me excited and happy.
Positive vibrations create positive,I do love music. And I listen to music when all the times.

Well music does change my mood. But for me it has always changed from a bad mood to a good mood. SO if I am kind of down in the dumps or irritated at something, I just turn on the music player and in a few minutes I have calmed down, smiled and humming. It also sometimes helps me to think clearly. It helps me feel better when I am sick. But it has never gone the other way. If I dont like a singer, I just dont listen to it.

Music can change my mood and I actually listen to music everyday. I listen to music before going to work and once I get home from work. I also listen to music while walking as it makes me feel secured. My dad told me it's not a good idea since I am sometimes in the night shift. I mean having your ear plugged with earphones and having music banging you wouldn't possibly hear if someone's trying to get you from behind. I wouldn't listen though. Hahaha. What I do is I just go to work 4 hours earlier then sleep there for the remaining hours.
