My Persian Cat

I have the most beautiful Persian cat in the whole world. She is about 10 years old and was starving on the streets. She had a feeder, but Persians aren't aggressive enough to compete with assertive street cats for limited food. She weighed 2 kilos when I got her. Now she is 3.5 kilos. I hope she gains 1 more kilo.
I adopted her from a nice young woman in Tel Aviv. It took quite a few hours to go to Tel Aviv on the bus, convince the rescue that I'm worthy, go to the vegan supermarket and come home on the bus with my baby. Coming home was something like 2 1/2 hours on the darn bus because I had to transfer.
I wish I could upload 2 pictures, but I can only upload one at a time. Enjoy this first picture of the best cat ever.

She is just beautiful CatLady! I just want to give her a big hug! Did you just get her? She will be loved and well cared for now for sure. You did a good thing and she will love you to pieces. You'll have to start another discussion so you can upload the next picture.....can't wait. And I love her name too.

She really is sweet. And she is so Persian. She loves to sit next tome, but not on me. My 1/2 Persian who I adopted in the early 80's was like that too. She loves pets and tolerates kisses. I really don't know what her life was like before she was put on the street. No matter; she is living "The Life of Riley" now and will for the rest of her life.

I got her a few months ago. She was only on Facebook for a short time and I jumped on it. Her picture was horrid and you couldn't she what she looked like, but I was smitten anyway. I had to have her even though I didn't need another cat.

I understand. We fall in love with our pets. It's almost as if they are our children. I say almost because loosing my sister and brother was way more traumatic than loosing a beloved pet. I hope no one ever has to find out how hard it is to loose friends and family before their time.

Post a picture of your Rio. I love looking at cat pictures. Cats rock, they roll, they are the best thing since the super market put in a bread slicer.

Oh, she is beautiful!!! You have her clipped? Do you do the grooming yourself?
I've had cats throughout all of my adult life but never had a pedigree. Most of them have been short-haired American breeds or half breeds or multiple mixed. I'm down to just one now and she is a rescue. They can be such a blessing, can't they?

She lost her fur due to malnutrition and fleas. It's growing back slowly. It is taking a very long time. I think it's taking forever. She had about half that amount of fur when I got her, so maybe it's not so slow.
I've never had a pedigree before either. I love Persians temperament. In would never buy a cat from a breeder. It's so wrong, but rescue one that needs a home is fine. My baby was deffenately a rescue. Poor baby was dumped on the street. How can folks do such things.

What is the meaning of Aviva? Something to do with life? It is a pretty name anyway.
After my cat lost her hair, it was about a full year before it had all grown back and she started to shed. I thought it was slow, but the vet said it was progressing normally. She was getting good and nutritious food.
Aviva's eyes are extraordinary. Such a deep yellow color.
It hurts my heart to see or hear of abuse of any animal. I think those people have a special place reserved in Hell. If I had had the money, I would have operated a shelter. As it is now, I just donate to the ones I feel are worthy.

Her name has meaning to me and the young woman who was fostering her. First I traveled to the city of Tel Aviv for her. Aviv means spring in Hebrew. Aviva is a nice modern name in Hebrew for females. Viva is alive in Spanish.
So all together it makes a nice new name for her new life with me. I am smitten with her.
I also hate animal abuse and all abuse of those who can't defend themselves, animals, children, the elderly, the poor, mentally disabled etc.
I take in foster animals until they can get a home. When I die, all my money will go to build a real shelter for dogs and cats in my town. I have another friend who is in her 70's and she is also going to donate her estate to our local rescue, so between us, we will build a nice no kill shelter.
I hope I have 10 or 20 years to live, but there is no telling.

I wanted an older cat. If she was 2 or 3, I would have passes her up and let someone else have her. Older cats are the best. She is getting really good 100% real meat food. No junk.

That's OK. I love all animals. Someone has to take the pesky kittens. I really prefer the more sedate animals. Also I have cancer and don't know how long I will live. Outliving a 10 year old is very probably, but out living a kitten is less likely.

Oh, wouldn't that be nice, if we could just give our excess fat away to the more needy.

I wish. I also wish our clothing would shrink when we loose weight. I need to buy new clothes because I dropped 20 pounds. There goes my money.

She's settled in quite nicely. She is now sleeping in bed with me. She has gained 1.5 kilos which is a lot of weight. The last kilo is always the hardest. I've LOST 10 kilos and need to loose 5 more. I wish I could magically give her 1 of my kilos of fat.

I know about that picture uploading problem, it's like you have so many nice pictures, but can only upload one until someone replies to your post..
Your Aviva is absolutely gorgeous. Her fur looks like the color of the stray that is hanging around my neighbor's house, he or she isn't a Persian though, but just as beautiful..

To be honest I don't care for Persians. Their pug noses bug me and I just don't care for them. I do love cats though. My favorite is C**oon and the newer breed Munchins. Now there's a cute cat!

Yes, to each their own. I think it is the negroid nickname they take fault with. Enjoy your kitty.

I know what it means but I don't think I have ever heard it used. Isn't it an outdated slur? It would make more sense if they would hire one human to check if a word is being used as an insult or if people are discussing animals or other mundane things. The rules is kinda silly because if someone wanted to be mean they will find ways.

To each their own. I prefer the doll faced Persians with a longer nose, but it's the Persian personality that draws me, not the looks. Don't tell me you can't type Maine C00n on myLot. grr It's a cat breed for pete sake. I guess not.
We are talking about cute little pu$$y cats not bltch dogs in heat.

Please rescue, don't buy one. Never buy a cat or a dog. Buying animals only contributes to breeders making more pets to end up in shelters to die. Contact rescue groups and adopt one. With the internet, it is easy to network and find a needy animal.
There are always cats or dogs available of every breed. I found my new love on Facebook. I thought she was black from her picture, but she is tortoise shell. I've been wanting a black cat for ages. But... Color is not important.
Well, I adopted Aviva and a few months later a black Person comes up for adoption. I already have my new wonderful loving cat so I passed on the black one. Besides he was young and I like old animals. Maybe in 5 or 10 years I will have room for another cat. I will adopt an older cat again like I did this time.

Cats are wonderful creatures. I raised them when I was growing up. We even had one when I first got married until er had to have him put to sleep. This is a very pretty cat.

I also have a long haired cat, she is not a full breed like yours but beautiful all the same. I believe her maternal line was 50% Norwegian Forest Cat as I saw the male cat in the area during mating time and her mother was the result. She may not be a full breed but she is quite different from any smooth hair cat I have had. She is a great tree climber, by choice prefers my company to the outdoor world and she is placid. If I get another cat I would definitely go for the long haired variety. They have a quiet intelligence that makes them great companions.
What a sad thing it was that your cat had to experience starvation before you found her, but she is one of the lucky ones now.
