...and I used my brother's shovel.

Hello to all of my myLot friends. Yesterday, and the day before, my city of Denver/Aurora, was hammered with snow. We got about 2 feet all together after all was said and done.
I thought about all the elderly who would have been stuck in their homes if someone didn't go and shovel their drives, and sidewalks. So, without a shovel of my own, (I had to borrow my brother's shovel), I took of to help others.
Now, I am not after money, but I do know where many of the elderly live and I decided to go and help them out. I saw the snow drifts piles up over one small fence and decided to "dive" in.
It didnt take me long to get the mail box out from under the snow, but the drive was a little more difficult. There were two cars in the drive, and a drift in between them. I got that cleaned out and moved to the next house.
By the time I made it to my 4th house, I noticed that the owner was outside ready to greet me. He asked, "how much are you charging?" I told him that I was more concerned with his safety, than his money. So he said nothing and walked back into his house.
I was not yet finished, and he came back out with a 10 dollar bill. I accepted it of course, but was not after that. I told him that next time another storm hits, its free and will always be.
After finishing about 28 houses, I ended up with $172. It only took me 5 or 6 hours to get them done, but $172 was an awesome thing. I told all the people that I will do it for free, but they refused. (And really, if you are struggling, like I am, any amount of money is a blessing.
The next storm, I will do what I always do, help. Will I accept money if offered? Yes. I believe that if you work, you earn what is given, even if you say no. If nothing is given, great too.
Have you ever done anything out of concern for others, and they ended up paying you for it? I would like to hear your thoughts.

No, I never got paid in money, but in like kindness, which is just as good! It feels good to be able to help others whether we get paid in any way for it or not, but I'm glad you were able to make some money.
You got more snow there than we got up here, but we got enough.

As I tell all my friends and family, I love snow but hate the cold. LOL
Thinking about walking out my door into the cold is not what I want anymore. I am thinking about moving again, maybe to sunny Hawaii...

Those are the people who don't like somebody to give them service for free. Although your motives was not for money instead to give help but lucky you are. You earn $172 in 6 hours unexpectedly. I am not opportunist, everytime somebody give service either in my home of in our shop I should always give rewards.

That is wonderful for sure, Julyteen.
I say that I really was not expecting anything in return, but I decided to just go, and help.
I really love to help others.

This is awesome, and glad you could be of service to them. Many times God knows when you are really needing something we may not always there when we least expect it. But glad you could be there and help. And by them giving you money and you refusing will help show them how humble you are and be glad you helped them. And yes many times, when you try helping others for free a lot of things often respected' are usually benefited others as well.

I just like helping people. I think that if everyone had that mentality, then we all would be in a better place. Life would not be so hard. Helping another person is very high on my list well above even my own welfare...
Thank you for responding. Have a great day.

You can come down here to my house and help out all you want. It used to be that when we had a big snow, there were always people, usually kids, that came around with shovels and helped with snow clearing. There are none to be seen now days.
Even back just seven or so years ago, I saw kids (teenagers) driving around looking for people to help. I was stuck in my car in a snow drift and they pushed me out.

It is very nice of you to help the people in distress. How nice it will be if all people will just help each other in times of need. To do no evil is easy. To do good requires effort - however small or little. You are a model for all to follow.

My neighbors help me out a little and I will give them a gift at Christmas time. Only thing is now they are giving me gifts back. I guess that is like God. You can never out give him.

That is 100% correct. No one can ever out give GOD. He is always giving, and as a matter of fact, if he were not giving right now, there would be no breath in my lungs.
God bless...
