Did I Really Do That?

I drove to the Post Office this afternoon to pick up the mail from our P.O. box. I locked the car and strolled in to the mail box lobby with the key in my hand. That's when it happened, when my brain stayed in neutral and had me laughing out loud at myself. You see, as I approached the mail box I pressed the button on the key, as if expecting to see the mail box open itself. I realised what I'd done straight away and was thankful no one else was there at the time. Things become automatic sometimes, don't they? Key in hand, approaching target, we do things without thinking. I wonder what I would have done had that little metal box blinked lights at me advising it was now unlocked. Do you sometimes do things, silly things, without thinking? I'm sure I'm not alone.

I think we all do things like that. Today I bought some milk and left it on the table by the door, then put my keys in the fridge!

I think many of us do similar things! You don't get mail delivered to your home there?

@AbbyGreenhill Yes we do have home deliveries, but as we have the box for our business, most of our personal mail now goes there as well.

We all do those things. This happened years ago. It was pitch dark on the road and we heard a commotion. I switch on our bedroom light to see what is going on there - husband teased me no end.

You made me laugh because my husband yesterday was trying to open our front door pressing the button of the key of the car and it's not even the first time.

I have done that too! I have to remind myself to do some things manually so I don't become so automatic myself.

I am glad that my brain is so addled that I cannot remember all the times I have done something similar. It's a terrible thing to have your brain all wound up in thought and your body on autopilot but it's better than the other way around.

I'm sure I've done plenty of things like this, but I've been able to blank them out, thank goodness. I do remember a time when my mum put coal in the toilet though.
