Does Your myLot Writing Come From Your Heart?

I've been reading a lot of discussion posts along with responses and comments lately, about the best sort of discussions and the way to attract more attention to what we place on here. This got me thinking, do some people try too hard, worrying about what they should be doing here? In my experience the best discussions to read and certainly for me, the easiest to write, are the natural ones, the ones that come straight from the heart. This is a wonderful place for just letting it all out, not having to plan and organise your thoughts, or worry about what others expect of you. That is very refreshing. So, if anyone is wondering what my advice about writing here is, it's write from your heart. Be natural, be yourself. Forget about formalities and let your thoughts flow. You may be surprised at the result.

That's very difficult for a repressed, uptight, private and emotionally constipated individual such as myself.

Come on now Anna, if your writings are not from your heart, whose heart do they come from. If asked, I'd say you are one of the best at expressing yourself naturally here. Stop putting labels on yourself

I quite agree, I've read far too many 'forced' posts lately. It's unnecessary on this site too, as people can still earn by commenting on other people's.

@valmnz @jabouk how can you tell which one is a forced post? how long or short is it? what do they talk/not talk about?

@hereandthere they don't have an easy flow in their writing. It sounds more like school student writing. It doesn't transport you to their world when you read it.

Sorry to disagree with you that posts that are written from the heart get noticed. Most of my posts come from the heart with hardly any responses. I wrote a poem on school times which came straight from the heart as poems usually come from there and I get 5 responses. Getting responses has nothing to do whether posts come from the heart or elsewhere but their visibility to the community .

I sit down start typing and it comes out...I don't think much about it except for the title. I say what's on my mind which sometimes gets me in trouble.

Ha, ha, join the club but it's the best way to be. I'm like you, sometimes a title comes to me, sometimes the first sentence, but that's all. Sometimes the discussion takes off in such a way as I write I go back and change the title. I'm here to have fun, not to plan. I guess it's more difficult for English second language speakers though.

That is good advice to people. But some people write from their heart but still say the same things all the time. I am not sure why but a lot of stuff I do pass up that deals with subjects like naps, food, and other stuff. I did find some really interesting stuff that some have shared. I read a fantastic post about this young girl who learned to makes cakes designs off YouTube. Wow she share one of her cakes and it was amazing. You would of thought she had a real shoe and hand bag on the top of her cake. She is amazing and has a real talent for this. I hope others will see this and encourage her. I was amazed at this.

I agree re the repetitive posts. I wonder though, if those people are afraid to open up as to how they really feel? Some may eve think sharing those things is what gets them the most readers. Maybe it does, but there's often no heart in it.

@poehere it's still possible to be natural when writing about something creative you've done, in fact, that should be the easiest of all, telling us about it in true sincerity.

@valmnz What I mean is that I can express my heart more clearly and vividly in my mother tongue Hindi. But when it comes to translating my feelings into English or any other language I don't have a good knowledge of,I flounder and often fail.

@else34 Judging from your comments you have a very good command of the English language and you don't appear to flounder at all. Many English speakers cannot express themselves as well as you do. Take it from a native English speaker, you express yourself clearly and vividly in English and have nothing to worry about when it comes to communicating in English :D

Just because a writer is professional - and I'm actually not - most are ordinary people expressing themselves. Writers who write more than here online still need an editor to tidy up their work.

@valmnz The kind of post that doesn't work for me is the kind where the writer is discussing how to get more views and the various strategies s/he uses to draw more people in. As Hemingway says, just sit at the typewriter and bleed.

@xFiacre well, as you well know, what is true differs for each of us. But if we write a sentence that is true to ourselves, nobody can ask for more than that. btw, just to change the subject, I watched an episode of Slow Train Through Africa on Saturday night - thru Zambia and Zimbabwe

I guess it depends on what I feel when I start a discussion, sometimes I feel the need to write about something other than what I feel, just sharing information. But at times you want to write about what you feel and about your day or what is happening in your life ..

@vandana7 You are absolutely right ! There was a discussion I had started a few u years ago here about left over food and cooking food in large quantities just to save time and fuel. Some were against it ....Now it has been revealed that eating refrigerated rice ( after warming it up) cuts down calories by almost 30%...Similarly, when we know that we can make life easier for ourselves why resist it and make things more difficult ? I know of many relatives who find it difficult to stir out of their homes because their men insist on hot freshly cooked meal all the time ...Honestly, there is a limit to pampering

@kiran8 ..No that is not pampering..that is arrogance. Men should prove for once in a month each year that they can do what women can do, then they will stop making such demands. Agreed some tasks have become easier than in the past. But why have national waste? If the woman is educated, her education is subsidized. There are many who do not have access to education. Utilize the education instead of confining it to kitchen. That way she will earn and employ the poor and the money will find a way to percolate. Really our men need some repairing with screw drivers and hammers.

Yes..that is so true. Yesterday we visited this elderly couple. The lady cooks twice in the day (lunch and dinner) apart from breakfast and evening tea of course. And they don't eat leftovers. They are childless, and now the lady is sickly too. I wonder why such habits should be cultivated at all that will not be fulfilled at other places. If they go to old age home, they will have to adjust to whatever is served, right? Those were my feelings yesterday.

Whenever I start a discussion, I have to think long and hard of what to say, unless it a discussion that pertains to what is going on in my life, and then there is no thinking at all, as i just start typing. I guess you could say, that mine come from the heart all the way. If i can't think of a topic, then I just don't start one, which I don't a lot of anyway.

@valmnz (4319), all of my writing is from my heart. In the mornings I usually write a post about my plans for the day,my nigh, or just what is happening at the momment. I always say, what you read is what is going through my mind at the moment I write. Sometimes something happens I want to share with you, like I am just fixing to go and post about in a few minutes, but it is always from my heart, boring or interesting to others?
