Mine are shrivelled....

United Kingdom
November 16, 2015 12:00pm CST
I don't think it's anything to do with the cold, more like they are old and past their best. I have kept them in the fridge for as long as I dare but I think it's time to throw them out. How do you know when grapes are no longer edible? Should I wait to for them to turn into sultanas or raisins, or better still wine? Are there any virgins on here willing to tread on my grapes to make them into wine? I read somewhere that it tastes better when it is done by virgins, and they have to be naked. Right? Who am I kidding? There are no virgins on myLot. Or are there?

sorry to hear that yours are shrivelled ....chuck them away ... buy some fresh ... and squeeze gently each day to test firmness . ( works for me !) lol

A squeeze is ok, but not too hard. Right?

@Traceyjayne As often as I can to be honest. Sometimes in the supermarket too, when no one's looking of course.

What if, instead, they are Grapes of Wrath? I am not sure if they would actually shrivel completely in your refrigerator. I would be afraid they would grow moldy.

Yeah, wrath, I get plenty of that. They have been shrivelling in my fridge, so much so that I have thrown them out. How do you make them into raisins?

I think they might shrivel in the fridge if unwrapped as refrigeration takes water out of things

To find out whether or not they are edible, you can get whomever you are mad at the most at the moment to eat them. If they survive, then they are probably safe to eat.

@1wldngl Or you can place them in brandy until they swell. And THEN, make the pudding.

I think when they start getting fuzzy is a good time to throw them out. I've tasted shriveled grapes that were still good. I think bare feet is best for treading grapes.

@Orson_Kart Now if they tasted bad, then they would be history.

I have never tread on grapes before. Grapes when they start to shrivel start to taste gross.

I thought it was the otherway around considering there is acute shortage of the breed you are searching for.

Grapes huh? I would guess if they're prunish they're headin for the other side of fresh. Sorry, no 10 year olds on this site.

Grapes will go mouldy when they're 'off' and I wish you luck with the virgins but I wouldn't hold my breath.
