Do You Make New Year's Resolutions?

I used to make New Year's resolutions faithfully for years until I decided it was a waste of time. Why? Because I didn't follow through. I now make monthly goals. I make small goals for myself that can actually be accomplished. One of the goals I made for December was to lose 6 lbs. Why 6 lbs.? Because I can reach that goal. As a matter of fact I already have. Another goal was to write at least 20 posts on MyLot. I have already done so. The theory behind making my goals is to make them obtainable so when I do reach them I can be proud of myself instead of making goals so hard that I cannot possibly reach them. I also set up harder goals that I allow myself to reach in two or three months. Such as writing a full chapter of my book by the end of two months. Again, entirely obtainable. Do you make resolutions and then not follow through?

Year after year after year including this year, I make resolutions! But so far not one is accomplished or followed by me.

@antonbunot that's why I no longer make them - I don't follow through.

I used to make resolutions but do not anymore. Waste of time.

I made resolutions when I was younger, even if I knew that resolutions are made not to be followed. From about ten years I do not make anymore resolutions.

I don't make new years resolutions ... if I want to do something or change something I just do it ... no matter what time of the year

I never took any resolution for any year. As I know I will never be able to follow it, so I dont want to take any resolution

This year I am going to do so. I'm going to learn Greek. I may apply your system as previous attempts have been disheartening. Maybe either limiting my time or deciding on a specific number of words to learn each day.

Oh hi Susan! So nice to catch up with you again. I was charlene2350 at the bubble place. I ten not to make New Years resolution because I never know if I have that much time left. I hope I do though and trust in that. I feel myself gaining some strength I think. So my goals are on a daily basis. Hope that answers your topic.

I've never really made specific ones, like "stop smoking." More abstract ones, like "be a bit more of a jerk."

I stopped making them for the same reason. At some point I stopped the follow through. I like your solution of monthly goals. I have a book that needs to be finished and doing it your way would actually cause me to get some follow through.

I think it is a lot better to go with small goals than to go with a big goal that you will never get.

Yes I do. But I also make resolutions and small goals that I do achieve. Losing weight is a tough one for me though.

I recently in the last couple of years started making New Years resolutions, sadly I have not stuck to a single one of them yet :(
