The Time is Fast Approaching

My heart is breaking. I sit here depressed over what I need to do. My older son is in complete denial. I looked up the phone number and hours and they are short today, only until noon, so I will postpone the inevitable a few more days. Pip is barely eating now, and doesn't go outside very much either. She just lays there, and you know the time has come. Yes, she still has some energy. She wags her tail, she smiles at me, but we both know the time has come. It's a very sad time and I'm not looking forward to her last car ride. The image is Pip Thanks for reading.

How sad for you. We got the vet to come to our house when the time came for our beloved dog. At least she was in familiar surroundings.

That was a good thing. To my knowledge there isn't a traveling vet here.

I thought it would be this morning, but she seems to be doing a little better, but I can tell it will be soon now, perhaps next week, and I'm not looking forward to it.

So sorry to hear of this. I could never imagine losing a pet or anyone close to me at that. I will be thinking and praying for you and hopefully he can go peacefully if it is his time to go.

It could very well happen. I woke this morning half expecting she was gone.

I've been in your shoes, it is difficult beyond words to take them on that last car trip. Its hard because you both know, but what you know is that Pip will have an end to his suffering, and he deserves that, and you don't need to worry about his pain and discomfort any longer. Remember his good days. I'm so sorry.

I am so sorry. I knew I'd read this point of things eventually, I had just hoped it was longer, or that Pip would fall asleep one evening after cuddling and cross over the rainbow bridge on her own. There is nothing I can say to make it better, but my thoughts are with you both. -hugs-

My sympathies. When my furball's kidneys started failing the vet offered to do other tests, and I said, "No, enough." She said, "If she were mine, I'd say 'enough,' too." We'd had her on a very restrictive diet, down to a half a cup of water a day (and she still wasn't saturating her urine), so for her last four days I let her eat anything she wanted (she loved KFC chicken strips) and have all the water she wanted. Then we had a "farewell" party for her. My brother took her to the vet and held her as they put her to sleep. She's buried in his back yard. I never will forget how unbelievably huge my small house felt that night.

She's still drinking a lot of water, but not eating very much of anything. I'm glad you had a party for her before your brother took her to the vet. My house is already beginning to feel empty and huge.

We had a beautiful golden lab called Holly. Yes, you know when their time has come. My husband took her to the vet while I was at work. He said the hardest part was bringing her empty collar home. But, you know you are doing the best for Pip.

@just4him our son was 21 at the time, used all his money to travel across the city in the early hours of the morning. We found him on the couch when we came downstairs. Holly was his Christmas present aged 9

Yes, I know. My biggest opposition will be my oldest son who was her first owner. He's in denial that it's time to put her down. She did seem good today, but I know it's time. I'll be making the appointment on Monday.

I was there a week ago. We took our 11yr old English Setter to the vet. She was given powerful tranquilizers and stopped moaning for the first time in weeks. Then the shot was given and I cried when she stretched her head out for the last time. It was really sad watching her go.

@just4him It's sad, but she had a stroke and stopped eating and drinking. It wouldn't have been long, so we did what we had to. The last remaining dog wasn't sad at first, but now he's the only one, and is very sad.
