Do you expect returns when you help someone?

I have seen people talking about how they helped a person and he didnt do it back when they are in need. I have seen my mother do it and I always try to correct her. I really hate it when someone mentions the help they done to a person to achieve something. I help others with a hope that God will reward me. Some expect something back from the one they helped. I am not saying that they shouldnt be helping back. But is it okay to expect it? Like when I help you, you should also help me, kind of thoughts. What do you think? Are you a that kind of person who expects something in return? Thanks for reading.

No I do not expect returns, I know God will give it back to me in his own time so no need to rush. It is not like lending or loaning money

Yeah, thats what I feel like too. Its like lending money and God will reward us with many times better.

My help in return is accumulating in Heaven.I believe are returns come back in one form or another, but there's a higher source then just getting the, "You scrub my back, i"ll scrub yours" motto. This is not to say that like your Mom perhaps, people tend to use others, and that just goes without saying.

Yes we will be rewarded one way or another, if not in this world , in the next world.

We should help others where they return the favor or not. Many times the person we help has no way of returning the kindness. Blessings.

That is true. They may be so poor to return any favours. So its best to not expect it from whoever we are helping.

@aju007,There was a time when I used to expect returns. One day,in a jam packed bus I offered my seat to a woman. She quickly occupied it without thanking me.Honestly speaking,I was shocked.Thereafter I gave up expecting returns, even a thanks from those whom I helped.

No, I never do anything to get something in return. It is nice when someone offers to help me when needed but I never expect it.

@aju007 Absolutely but I do know people who will throw it in your face if you can't return the favor.

I do whatever I can to help others and I never expect people to award me for it. All I would be after is a thank you and knowing that they truly appreciate it. But it would be nice to know that if ever I needed help that those people would help me out. Not because they feel they have to for me helping them but because they would generally like to help me.

No, I really do not expect anything in return. When I help someone, I do it from the heart. I only think of myself being in that person's shoe so I believe it would be just fair to not expect anything.

Well said. Thats how it should be. Its not fair to expect anything at all. Expectations may bring us sorrow sometimes too.

Whenever I help somebody, there is no need something in return. It should be done with all your heart. It is not healthy if you do.

I agree with you. It should be with our hearts, and not with an eye on them.

I believe in karma--I have volunteered for 70 of my 80 years and it has 'always' paid off--maybe not immediately but when something happens years later I truly believe that is my payback!!

I think if you expect help back you will often be disappointed. What goes around comes around. I think it all works out in the end. The person you help may not be the one to help you but someone else will.
