What would you do if there is no power supply?

This morning, there was no power supply in my home. We didn't get any notice about this, when I was working with my computer, suddenly the power was just cut off. Since I couldn't use my computer anymore, I spent almost 3 hours with power off to clean and organize my home. It seems like a good chance to clean up without any distraction. I also spent some time to crochet the Easter crafts for my children. If there is no power supply, what would you do?

When in Singapore that issue is never there. But when I am in India this is normal. My mind then works overtime to find those I can do - even go out to do some errands - siva

I didn't know this never happens in Singapore, that's really good! Yes, actually I guess there are a lot of things we can do without the electricity.

@kaka135 Yes, almost. I remember only once during my over thirty years here! If Singapore can do, why not others? siva

For about 2 hours I could use my laptop computer on its charged battery, then I would check what I can do around the house.

I thought of that as well, but the modem was not functioning without the electricity, so it seemed nothing much for me to use my computer without the Internet.

@kaka135 I do not care if I have no Internet, because I also have plenty of things that I do with my computer that are not online.

I think the life will be boring for us if there is no power. Actually I am not sure whether the lift can work properly if there is no power. Perhaps there is the backup power, but it can not run for a long time as usual usage. Perhaps we will go out since there is nothing interesting to do. It is dark and even I can't clean my house yet.

We usually do not take the lift here if there's no electricity. I am not sure how it is when someone is staying in very high level apartment. Perhaps as you said, there's backup power. It was morning and afternoon time when the power here went off, so I was still able to do a lot of things without the electricity.

@kaka135 Here the electricity seldom shuts down unless there is something wrong. It will be a big issue if there is no electricity here.

I would probably do the same thing, clean. Or read a book. But it would stink if it was dark out when it happened.

If it's at night, I guess I'd light up candle and sit in the front yard together with my children. We did that last time when there was no electricity at night too, at least there was wind blowing, so we wouldn't feel that hot and stuffy inside the house. The children were happy look at the candle light as well.

In Florida, it hardly ever happens and never for three hours except the time the car hit the pole down the street and it tore out all the wires, but it was late at night and by morning it was fixed. My TV might go out due to bad weather for a few minutes or once lightening took out my phone service for a few days (fortunately it was a land line and my cell phone worked fine). But I would take that time to go check on my mom. She lives around the corner and if my power is out, hers is probably out too.

That's good. This doesn't happen frequently in where I stay, but it happened a lot when I was staying with my parents. It's good that you can always pay a visit to your mom.

There is a lot we can do without electricity, especially if we have daylight, crafts like knitting etc and reading and cleaning our home and organizing closets etc...If we can read in candle light, we can catch up.. Many have loaded things on the IPad or the phone that we can listen or read..

Yes, there are really a lot of things we can do without the electricity. It can be just a cozy time to spend at home.

It has happened twice this year and I found other things to do and ways of eating and keeping warm. I went to bed earlier and did a lot of reading. Once we had a real bad storm and I was out of power for about a week in January cold weather. I survived but it was very hard too stay warm. When the power came back, the first thing I did was eat something warm.

Out of power for a week? That's really terrible. Here, we just always feel it's hot whenever there's no electricity, we just use paper fan or go out for some natural wind. I guess it's even harder to stay warm. Yes, I think eating might help.

we call it brownout my friend @kaka135 and first thing I would do is open up a candle, using my flash lights and check if we still have water in the buckets.. not sure about reading a book, maybe in the morning or afternoon. but at night we just lay down and sleep hoping the lights would come back..

Thank you for telling me that. I didn't know it's called brownout, sometimes we call it blackout here. Actually sometimes it's good to have the brownout, as we can be more relaxing and spending time together. But, it's just very hot here.

There is always some to do if/when the power goes out. Ours hasn't been off for a long time so not sure what I did.

Yes, I think there are really lots of things to do even when we are at home. When the power goes out, I was quite surprise how much time I have spent online everyday and neglected others.

It seems like many people would prefer to read a book while there's no electricity. I guess it's a relaxing thing to do.

I would prefer reading a book or might even organize and clean a few things like you did @kaka135 (9569) But I wonder several ages back when there was no electricity at all, how things would have been ! ! Living in the 21at century its difficult for us to imagine I wish I could travel back to that time

I always wonder that as well. My son and I were talking, back in those days, people might sleep early, perhaps just after the sun set. If we are hot, we use paper fan to fan ourselves or just go outside to feel the wind blowing. They seized the day time to do whatever they can.

I'll read, clean my room and do some manual laundry until I get tired then I'll rest. I hope by time I'll wake up, power has been restored.

These are good activities to do while there's no power supply. Perhaps we should spend more time doing these as well.

If it's not too hot here, I am still fine with it. But, glad that we still have the paper fan.

Without any form of power there would be very little that I could do. My options would basically be either cleaning around the house or go out for a while.

I guess cleaning is a good choice as well, especially if we have spent too much time online and perhaps it's really a good time to do some cleanings.

I'd like to sleep as well, it's just that it's too hot here, and it's difficult to sleep without the fan.
