Seeking advice on which fish is kept along with arowana fish

I have a beautiful aquarium at home and since many years. It has been occupied by beautiful silver colored 2 feet Arowana fish .I tried to beautify it more by adding few more golden fishes in to this aquarium but they died. People say that Arowana fish, which is considered auspicious, fish, loves to stay alone and do not like other fishes. Over the year I wished to add few more fishes. May be my knowledge about them is not complete May be someone from my friends around can guide me .May be there are particular breed which is compatible with this fish. I stay more cautious because I do not want my Arowana to get effected because of other fishes too.
