Would you earn even if you did not need to?

I know we never know when enough is enough...
So insecurity is always there
And then falling off one social circle down to another social circle, and then down to another...
But if that social circle itself was respecting me because of my wealth at a time, and not me, was it worth keeping on working to be in that group?
Would you say you would work because
a. you are able to and by you working you employ another who cannot do the work you can?
b. it is your duty to earn and contribute to your nation's kitty?
c. you feel that is the only thing you are good at, and you actually fear the ennui that would follow if you left the job
d. you believe you are the best there is for that position and would like to be replaced only by somebody better
Or are you going to step aside and work in a different way and let others fill in that job?

A - Not sure what you mean by that one.
B - I have never cared about contributing to the nation 's kitty - they never care about us.
C - I am good at many things and could do a lot of jobs if I put my mind to it.
D - For the things I am good at there is nobody better than me.

Actually that would be more valid in Indian context. There are many who are uneducated. Then there are jobs that only educated folks can do. If educated can afford to sit at home, and uneducated cannot be employed in those jobs, then neither benefits. But if the educated person works, then he or she employs the uneducated person to do some works and thereby money trickles down and poverty is reduced. You are the expert in English, you would have expressed it briefly Peter darlin..lol.

I am resourceful and will do whatever I turn my hand to.
I earn my keep one way or the other Vandy.
I had never been short of work before I got sick.
And to answer your question yes, I would even if I did not need to.
It is nature to me.

having been on the bed for 8 long months in 2008, I have realized that I simply cannot lie down practically doing nothing. It is more hurting than killing myself. So definitely, I will love (and prefer) to keep working no matter what.
I agree, there might be a shift in the role (I doubt that happening, going by my position at the moment as I have always worked alone ever since I started working from home) but it might be a possibility. I think from the four options/choices I will stick with option a - just because I have experienced that things are done better when I do them, not get them done by others.

I don't know which option to choose as I don't see myself in any of the above-mentioned choices.
I work from home. I work because I love keeping myself busy and I love what I'm doing. Also, I love saving money and setting aside some for my bills but not for my nation's kitty (that's cute)

I'd continue working even if I had enough money not just for myself but for my family and loved ones as well.
In fact, one colleague asked me what would I do if I won in the lottery. I said I'll probably take a vacation, take my family with me but after the vacation, I'd still go back to work.
that's my mindset.

As long as we are working, we hanker for a permanent break from working life planning retirement and all that. By then, we are too old to enjoy those moments like we would have enjoyed when we are young, or become so addicted to working that we cannot really imagine life without the same routine. lol. I guess, we need some routine yes, but with enough flexibility and some rewards too. :)

I have always felt if one has an opportunity to earn one should even though that person is comfortable financially. It can always be given away in charity.

But is it necessary to work for charity? If instead we side stepped, somebody else would move up, and the trend would go right at the bottom of the line till another person got employed? :) I mean, we could be doing more charity if don't work because an entire family would be surviving because of us. Not that this is mandatory. But just a thought.

@allknowing ..How about offering those services at really affordable rates to organizations that actually need those services but cannot afford to pay the going rates?

@vandana7 Opportunity to earn does not mean holding on to a job. There are million ways where one can earn

I am afraid I work to live rather than live to work. I know some people who are the opposite. I must say I do like my job though but at the same time it is nice to be off on holiday sometimes.

Yeah...I think that should make life very boring indeed...living to work I mean. :)
Can you please come up with a post and upload that chamber music you uploaded on Bubblews? I am trying to get it on YouTube, but not able to find it. Please do me a favor, please upload it once more because the bookmarked one is not working. :) Thank you. :)

I'd rather win the lottery and not work at allbut then I'd be bored as I often am now.
Even if I was rich I think I'd like to do something...my dream is to have a few small hotels in nice parts of the UK and Ireland.

@Mike197602 ..Not possible. lol. Anyway...as to going down...there do seem to be too many graves of Christians, Protestants, and Hindu baby girls and unmarried girls not to mention homicides. God no longer thinks anybody can wade through all that stuff and even worse, some may escape the punishment, so he might have to go through all those zombies for monitoring which is pretty eek stuff. That is the reason he is allowing people to stay in heaven where he can keep track of folks. This is actually a smaller chamber. Pretty crowded I must say but happy place nevertheless. I will be there to welcome you, don't worry when your time comes. hugs.

@vandana7 you never know, I could go first
I think if I did and god etc existed I'd be more likely to be going down rather than up

I stopped working. I packed up all the students and sent them on their merry way. I have been dragging my feet for years. I knew this day would come . But I still persisted being stubborn and all.
Now I am at a point of my life where I feel directionless. I am lost. I fear I have to find my way all over again. I don't when and how it happened. But it has out of nowhere just hit me recently.
It maybe possible that I was avoiding the inevitable all along....
